The focus of my practice is civil and criminal tax representation, including helping taxpayers seek innocent spouse relief from the IRS.Navigating the complexities of tax law can be a daunting task, especially when it comes to joint tax returns and the potential liabilities they entail. Married taxpayers who file jointly with their spouses often find themselves in situations where they are unfairly held responsible for tax liabilities that they believe should not be their burden to bear. However, relief may be available through the IRS Innocent Spouse Relief provisions outlined in Internal Revenue Code (IRC) Section 6015.When considering Innocent Spouse Relief, the first crucial step is determining whether a joint tax return was filed. This seemingly simple question can sometimes lead t...

Tips For Getting Your Wolcott CT Home Ready to Sell in 2024  For Wolcott CT Home owners that are looking to sell their home in 2024, it is essential to make the home as attractive as possible and to ensure that it gets its best exposure.  While it is still too cold to do anything outside, the inside of the home can be addressed so as to make it ready for a spring market. Homeowners must be mindful to start a list of repairs that need to be addressed as the hot sales market is still there and buyers want a move-in ready home and are prepared to buy a well maintained house.Pre-Listing InspectionIf you have been in the use for a while, it might be a good idea to bring in a professional inspector to evaluate the house. A trained eye is objective and will see things that a homeowner may not....

Happy Presidents Day 2024!!! Today is Presidents Day, and for most workers in the U.S. a day off from work.  Presidents Day was not always been known as Presidents Day, in fact up until 1968 there was no Presidents Day.Presidents Day was originally known as Washington's Birthday, and established in 1885 by President Chester Arthur.  Later many states decided that Abraham Lincoln was equally a great President, and started to celebrate his birthday as well.In 1968 Congress decided that both days should be combined into one Holiday, celebrated on the third Monday of February, and call it Presidents Day.  Today few remember the two separate celebrations in honor of Washington and Lincoln, and think that it is in honor of all Presidents, and special Sales Promotions.Today will be a work day ...

Something that has been used in the last few years is an appraisal gap. Typically, prior to the pandemic, is most buyers seeking a mortgage would include an appraisal contingency.  For example, if the contracted price between the buyer and seller is $500,000, and the buyers lender sends out the appraiser who values the property at $475,000. That would give the buyer the option to renegotiate the deal to the $475,000 or walk way from the transaction, as the buyer may feel they are overpaying for the property. However, it has been a home sellers market in almost all price ranges since 2020. Buyers sometimes have to get creative get a home if they are competing. One thing is the appraisal gap. This means for example, if the seller and buyer agree to a contract price of $550,000, and the buy...

Groundhog's Day 2024 in Prospect CTIt's Groundhog Day, and as the tradition offers, if the burrowing rodent doesn't see its shadow when it peeks from its burrow, then it's a sign that we are in for an early spring. It's not likely that the little guy saw his shadow today for 2 reasons. The power went out in town early morning and was off for 3 hours so his alarm may not have worked. It's overcast and raining which is a better reason.Regardless, I welcome an early chase to the cold weather and will be appreciative of warm days when we return from the south.I hope Bill Muray has the same results we experienced and will face a new day tomorrow so he can watch the team his son coaches win another basketball game, unless he's enjoying the Pro-Am at Pebble Beach.Groundhog's Day 2024 in Prospect ...

Friday Flags at A Prospect CT Veterinary FacilityThe one nicety of a brisk day in winter is that the wind creates enough movement to make finding flags waving easier. Such was the case with a set-back flag that was still in the holiday spirit in Prospect CT recently. This is the location of the Prospect Veterinary hospital on the Waterbury Rd in Prospect CT. It not only tends to sick animals, but in the same building is a training and boarding facility.A one stop location for all a pets' needs for residents of Prospect CT and surrounding towns. And just for people that can't read quickly, the rest of the facade has a visual that may offer an insight as to what gets served within. If it's good enough for a celebrity like Snoopy, then the family pet will also get good attention as well.Frida...

Naugatuck CT 2023 Year End Real Estate Market Analysis Naugatuck CT is a town of app 32,000 in New Haven County. It spans the Naugatuck river and its roots go back as a farming community. As the farms began to turn into residential communities, manufacturing took over and the rubber industry was primary with the evolution of the GoodYear Metallic Rubber Shoe Company into US Rubber, which evolved into Uniroyal.  With the decline of manufacturing, the town is primarily a residential community with easy access to New Haven and Bridgeport. In the world of real estate, the exuberance of the business that had started in 2019 started to slow the enthusiasm as people became wary of venturing into homes not knowing who was there or their health. Likewise, sellers were wary of having people come i...
