First, What Makes a Modular Home Modular?A modular home is basically a stick-built home that is built offsite and then transported to the site in modules. When designing a modular home the architect, engineer, or designer takes a standard home design and then based on that design, determines the best way to modularize or break it up into pieces that can be transported. These pieces, or modules, are then individually built in a factory. Because of state highway limitations and the need to gain access to building sites, typical module sizes can vary by region. In the northeast and mid-Atlantic where modular home construction is popular, highways are much older than in the rest of the country. Underpasses are lower and roads and bridges are narrower. This has placed more restrictive size li...

Motivational Monday...Add a Touch of Thoughtfulness We’re all busy when we’re out running our errands. Our thoughts are on “getting it done.”  The other morning when I was in the produce section, I was struggling with that little plastic bag they have for fruit and veggies. BC (Before Covid) those of us who are in the crass group used to lick our fingers to get the darn bag open.  So as I was trying to get the bag open for my lemons, the lady next to me said “Here take this one!”  She handed me her open plastic bag with a nice smile.  She said I open these all day long so it’s easy for me!! Turns out she works for a company that shops for others so she had this procedure down pat!!!  She didn’t have to give me her bag...goodness knows she was super busy herself shopping for several clie...

As I look back on the eight decades of my life I have memories of some events that never go away. There are some I cannot forgive, some I wish I could relive, and a few that changed the way we all live - forever. On August 1, 1966 I attended a Viet Nam teach-in at the University of Colorado at Boulder . That same afternoon one of those life altering events occurred 900 miles away in Austin Texas at the University of Texas. Later that evening the nation sat transfixed watching newsreel footage of the random cold blooded murder of 14 students by a lone sniper. Nothing like that ever happened in America like that.  TOWER (2016 directed and produced by Keith Maitland) on Amazon Prime) is a documentary about the unidentified gunman who climbed to the top of the University of Texas tower wher...

Pictured above is an image that in our opinion illustrates perspective"The Blue Marble is an image of Earth taken on December 7, 1972, by the Apollo 17 crew Harrison Schmitt and Ron Evans from a distance of about 29,000 kilometers from the planet's surface, on its way to the Moon". Wikipedia This week we focused on the huge subject of perspective.  The broader one's perspective is, the easier it is to solve a problem.  By broader, we are referring to inclusive of all perspectives.  People see and interpret things differently. Your ability to shift your point of view and see things their way may just be one of the most important skills to develop when dealing with clients in real estate or any service business.    "The difference between a mountain and a molehill is your perspective." ~ ...

“Yes, You Can Build Your Home” After weeks of figuring out next steps for us, we have decided to build and stop searching for home that either don’t work for our needs or folks are bidding crazy money over the asking price. As I shared previously, we own a parcel of land and will build there. I am going to start putting the sub-contractors together and will GC the job myself. I still can’t get over that you have a construction lender that will allow me to build my own home, which is just what I need. Once I have my budget together, will let you know. Make it a great weekend. Julian  These clients will save about 20% of the construction costs, by being their own general contractor. That is a lot of dollars when the plan is the build a 2,500 square foot home. They are fortunate to have fa...

Here is a summer treat that I never get tired of making.  I love making shrimp dishes.  I prefer using fresh caught shrimp.  I don't mind pealing and deveining them as long as they are fresh.  Here is a recipe I put together from a few that I found on the web.  We made it the other night and it is a keeper.  It is a very easy recipe to make and light and tasty. First, start with 2 pounds of shrimp.  You decide if you want it fresh or frozen.  Frozen will be very quick to make.  Make sure they are washed and deveined. Next we make the spicy garlicy paste.  Here are the ingredients. 5 large cloves of garlic 1 teaspoon of coarse kosher salt 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika 2 tablespoons of olive oil 2 teaspoons of lemon juice 2 tablespoons of chopped parsley 1 t...

I chose to look at Mondays as Motivational Mondays. Some of us may be thinking that we need an extra cup of coffee or an extra hour of two of sleep. I choose to say, give me an extra shot of motivation and set me on my way. As the year keeps slipping by us, I am focusing one week at a time on creating the best from within me. I hope that you enjoy this brief motivational clip to bring out the best in all of us as well. Each week, a new clip from a different angle, a different philosophy.

Bernard Lown was born in Utena, Lithuania back in 1921 to Nison and Bela.  The family moved to Maine when he was 14.  He attended Lewiston High School graduating in 1938.  He continued his education at the University of Maine graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 1942.  He earned his M.D. from John Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1945.  He received his cardiology fellowship at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital.  He helped raise international awareness of sudden cardiac death as a leading cause of mortality.  Based on his observation he concluded that sudden cardiac death was reversible and survivable.  Back then the mortality of a heart attack was most likely due to a strict regimen of bed rest which caused a pulmonary embolism accounting for most of the deaths.  He died in 2021...
