Every year on May 16, and this year on Friday May 16, 2025, we celebrate Happy National do something good for your neighbor Day.A neighbor is a person who lives near another, a person one's fellow human being. We can observe National do something good for a neighbor by; helping disabled neighbors to bring garbage bin to the curb on garbage day, when running errands, ask if there's anything a neighbor needs, invite the neighbors over for a cup of tea or coffee, drop a note in the mail just letting them know you're thinking about them, and other things to help neighbors.I want to wish to everyone at ActiveRain Community a Happy National do something good for your neighbor Day.

Back in March, I planted my Spring garden. I wrote a post about my use of electroculture gardening. Well, I can report that within just two months, this garden is going NUTS! I go out and pick produce every day but had a HUGE surprise yesterday! As I was collecting the squash, zucchini, and cucumbers, sitting at the bottom was this MASSIVE motherload! How did I miss this from the other days I don't know. But, when I went to pull it out of there, I felt like a fisherman pulling in the winning prize! This thing was enormous!I just started laughing so hard. I had to go inside to measure and weigh this beast! It is 15 inches long and weighs 5 pounds! I wish there was a contest where I could enter this gigantic produce! Wowzer. Many of you asked me if this electroculture gardening works. Well,...

Friday Flags: A Wind Blowing to the West in WaterburyOur spring here in Connecticut has been completely out of the norm. We have gotten warm weather, then it drops back to low temps. We get a lot of rain and then we get another dose of snow.Weather patterns typically are from the west to the east as generated by the rotation of the earth, as the wind blows. So, it was a bit unusual for me to see the flag at the golf course blowing to California, but that was the case. There was also no waiting for the wind to pick up as it was blowing in that direction for most of the afternoon.Friday Flags: A Wind Blowing to the West in Waterbury

Friday Fun…What Were Your Tunes? When I read that today is Relive Your Past By Listening to the First Music You Ever Bought No Matter What It Was No Excuses Day, I had many songs playing on my internal turntable. I understand it’s a long title for a day, but forget about that!  What’s the first song that popped onto your turntable…record player…cassette player…8-track…iPod…or streaming device when you were growing up??? I can’t remember the first music I bought, but most of my serious listening was done in the 1960s and ‘70s. As a matter of fact, Larry and I listen to the 60s channel on Satellite radio.  I listened to a mix of Mac Davis, the Beatles, CCR, Dire Straits, Chicago, Queen, The Lettermen, and the Stones. And…I have to admit listening to an inordinate amount of Broadway show t...

I wrote about Neuralink about 6 weeks ago. The device is a set of thin wires attached to a computer about the thickness of a few quarters that sits in his skull and allows patients to use his or her thoughts to move a computer pointer on a screen.  A patient Brad Smith who received the implant posted on X. “I am the 3rd person in the world to receive the @Neuralink brain implant. 1st with ALS. 1st Nonverbal. I am typing this with my brain. It is my primary communication,” he wrote. “Ask me anything! I will answer at least all verified users!” Smith’s case is drawing interest because he’s not only communicating via a brain implant but also getting help from Grok, Musk’s AI chatbot, which is suggesting how Smith can add to conversations and drafted some of the replies he posted to X.  Th...

This Mother's Day brought a refreshing and much-needed change of pace, and I soaked up every second of it! Instead of the usual dinner, I spent the day surrounded by my kids and their families, enjoying the kind of relaxed, joy-filled moments that become cherished memories. We kicked things off with a visit to Ski Shores Café, a beloved Lake Austin tradition since 1954. If you haven’t been since the owners of Clark’s Oyster Bar took over, you’re in for a treat, they’ve kept the charm but elevated the flavors. The lobster rolls? Absolutely delicious! After a leisurely meal, we headed out for an afternoon of boating on Lake Austin. The sky was a brilliant blue, the sun was shining, and the water sparkled like diamonds. There’s just something about being out on the lake with people you love...

Photo Journalism for 5/14/2025 The Town of Flower Mound is the type of place where the doorbell can ring and behind the door is a neighbor from across the street with a small bouquet of flowers. A flower bouquet is a great way for neighbors to say, I was just thinking of you. Have a nice day!  Having a good neighbor makes me feel that no matter what's going on in my life,  we are all each others' keepers. We get to share the same color sky, sunshine, and air that we breathe. The temperature between us is the same. A floral surprise never goes out of style and you don't need a reason to ring a bell and let your neighbor know, I was thinking of you. How are you today?   Garden flowers bring neighbor's together. Friends that feel like family are friends of the community. The older I get th...

Sometime we need to manage our hectic pace of our life better, with so many different demands on our time.  We could all learn to work smarter and also take a few steps to keep the chaos at bay and win a little more free time for ourself.  Here are some ways you could think about:Don't agree to everything.  Ask if you really need to attend that meeting or run that errand.  Don't be afraid to say no.Going to a Dr. appointment, take a book along or some reading material, Drs. awaits run late (mine does).Take something off your to do list that is a C that really may need to be done.  I agree that A's and B's are important but a C can be skip once in a while.Hired someone to do some work that you really do not want to do.Relaxing is healthy for you in the long run.

We added a third bird feeder to our collection this spring. We have one like Timmothy depicts above, a barn shaped one, and now a hummingbird feeder. Much to my dismay the barn shaped one is ruled by blackbirds this year. The tube shaped one draws the sparrows, and the hummingbird feed has yet to draw anything. 🤨Just like pets and wild animals, Humans are happier with food in them. This is why I established The Noodle Ministry. The Noodle Ministry provides a snack of Ramen noodles to indigent prisoners at the Ward County Jail.An indigent prisoner is one with absolutely no money or help from anyone (friend or relative). 20% of the prisoners are indigent. With diner at 4:30PM and breakfast at 4:30AM they go with no food or snacks. The other 80% can buy themselves snacks at any time, THUS ...

When it comes to IRS audits, one of the most common reasons taxpayers lose deductions is the lack of proper documentation. While your credit card or bank statements prove you spent money, they don’t show what you purchased. Without supporting receipts or invoices, these records are considered “naked”—and during an audit, that’s a problem. To fully protect your deductions, especially for business-related expenses such as meals, travel, vehicle use, and gifts, you need to keep receipts that document five key facts: the date, the amount, the place, the business purpose, and the business relationship. The best way to do this is by capturing digital copies of your receipts.Fortunately, it’s now easier than ever. Using your smartphone, you can snap a photo of your receipt and store it securely...

This morning I was on the phone with a friend that I met 15 years ago from Active Rain. Cherise Selley and I began blog-bantering and before long, we were lifelong friends. We have traveled together, stayed in touch, and, connected in such a deep manner. On our call, we were discussing life in general and she shared with me this large paper she and her husband had drawn out with their life journey. Down at the bottom was a large, white space. Cherise said, "This is where I want to be, in the white space!" This instantly resonated within me and got me thinking about this, "white space".Here are my takeaways regarding "white space":White Space is the place where you leave open time. Today I am calling my day a "White Space" day because I intentionally left my calendar open to allow the day...

“Lavender Fields Forever” By K. Ross If you recall from a blog, I posted a couple of months ago (Tulip Festival edition), I hinted to an upcoming lavender festival.  Well, the wait is over…It’s time to talk about the 2025 Amelia Lavender Festival. I’ve been waiting very patiently since that Tulip Festival blog to share this event with all of you!  This is by far my favorite festival in Virginia. So, let’s start the weekend of June 13th and head southwest to Amelia County and land ourselves at the Windsor Lavender Farm!  This festival is three-day event, so if you can’t make on Friday the 13th (oh…I just the chills), you still have Saturday and Sunday to plan your visit!  Each day consists of food, crafts, music, and of course LAVENDER.  Let’s start off with the lavender, since it is the...
