YES! The State Fair starts this Friday. While there are absolutely no headliners I want to see you can bet I will be there for a day or maybe even two.The North Dakota State Fair is the largest event in the State of North Dakota, drawing people not only from North Dakota but often world wide.I no longer go for the rides either HOWEVER I do enjoy walking through the midway to see the young people having the time of their lives. So why do I go to the North Dakota State Fair? I do like the overpriced Fair Food and I LOVE visiting the commercial exhibits to see the latest gadgets and such.I also love the State Fair parade that passes by my home (1/2 a block away) on Saturday.  I usually set up our spot on the street by 8AM so we get great views like the one above. The area gets packed with pe...

Maxwell Butte is a Little Known Central Oregon Hike While the higher Cascade Mountain hikes were still snow covered in mid July 2025, Maxwell Butte was snow free and offered spectacular mountain views. On July 12, only one other hiker was seen the entire day and while mosquitoes were a problem in the morning, they were gone once the sun rose. The hike from the trail head to the top of Maxwell Butte is a moderate, forested trek with 2453 feet of elevation gain over 5.10 miles one way; the last steep mile up the butte can be more challenging with switchbacks on pumice on parts of the path. However, the higher hikers get, the more the views of Mt. Washington, North and Middle Sister, The Husband and the Wife become visible until near the top, the full view of Tam McArthur Rim and Broken T...

Over the last two years this seems to be a regular occurrence making going outside very unhealthy at times. We have such short summers it really is disappointing when we are advised to stay inside for our health's safety sake. With nearly 10 million acres ablaze it's no wonder it's smoky and the Jet Stream brings it right down the Great Planes. I had hoped that the days of "masking" were over but until Canada gets those fires under control it's going to be a necessity.ALL WE CAN DO IS PRAY FOR RAIN.

🏡 1335 County Road 264 | MLS #35566292As a long-time horsewoman and Texas Horse Property Specialist, I often come across listings that don’t quite capture the full story of a property—and this one in Bertram, Texas is a perfect example.Listed as an agricultural property, it includes only a few mentions of horse use, but it's clear from the infrastructure that this place was developed with horses—and likely roping—in mind.Let’s take a closer look.🐴 What Caught My EyeFrom the listing photos and virtual tour, it looks like this property has all the key elements of a working equestrian setup:✅ Sandy arena — a roping-style layout✅ Multiple pens — for cattle and/or horses✅ Raised center-aisle barn — with 10+ stalls (though not shown, it likely includes a tack room, feed room, and possibly a w...

Motivational Monday…A Positive Choice There are some things you learn when you’re young that manage to stick with you. You can still remember where you were and how it impacted you. When I was 10 or 11, my Uncle Charlie used a glass of water to explain Optimism and Pessimism to me.  “What you see says something about you.”  About the same time, the movie "Pollyanna," starring Hayley Mills, came out.  Pollyanna always chose to find something positive in the situation or a person. Perpetual optimism is a force multiplier.Colin Powell Those two lessons stayed with me. We have a choice to be optimistic or pessimistic.I believe there is good in almost everyone. Some have buried it, and some need the right nudge to let it out. And some are good when and where it is most needed.  It seems for s...

What a way to wrap up the season! I had the absolute pleasure of attending the Canyon Creek Cyclones’ final swim meet on Saturday, July 12th, and wow, what a high-energy, feel-good event it was!Our neighborhood swimming team never fails to impress! From building swimming skills and endurance to promoting water safety and teamwork, these athletes, and their incredible coaches, give it their all. The meet took place right at our community pool, tucked in the heart of Canyon Creek, making it easy for neighbors to cheer each other on.One of my favorite parts? Seeing so many familiar faces, past clients, longtime friends, and neighbors. It felt like a mini reunion, and I loved every minute of it!The energy was electric from the start, with Matt Romansky on the bullhorn rallying the crowd. It...

"Perhaps the secret of living well is not in having all the answers but in pursuing unanswerable questions in good company." — Rachel Naomi RemenThis quote has been on my heart as I reflect on the devastating flooding that swept across parts of Texas over the July 4th holiday. What should have been a time of joy and celebration turned into heartbreak and uncertainty for so many families. There are no simple answers when disaster strikes. Why here? Why now? Why them? These are questions that may never be fully answered. But as Rachel Naomi Remen reminds us, maybe the purpose isn’t in the answers, but in how we come together to face the unknown. The beauty of Texas is in its people. Neighbors helping neighbors. First responders braving dangerous conditions. Volunteers offering food, shelter...

Baths in Searcy AR??Public Baths?  Searcy AR?  Surely Not!!But look at this old, old postcard!  See the sign on the side of a building on the left side?  If you are confused about where you are it is Spring Street looking North.  Imagine that on the left side, just before the first building, would be Mayfair Hotel!  Reportedly, the vehicles are about 1920's.  The street looks very wide and there are quite a few people.  In small towns folks went downtown on Saturdays so maybe it is Saturday.BUT BATHS???  Note the partial ad saying BARBER SHOP and BATHS!!  Gotta research that!  Muncy's book!!  A Frontier Town Grows Up With America. Raymond Lee Muncy, published in 1976.  He says that in 1871 there were two bathhouses in Spring Park.  Spring Park was like a health center and Muncy reports ...

The Wildflowers and Views Are Fabulous at Browder Ridge Iron Mountain remains one of the favored Central Oregon wildflower hikes that many people on both sides of the Cascades enjoy yearly. However, the lesser known and less traveled Browder Ridge offers even more wildflowers and views unseen from Iron Mountain. The easiest access to Browder Ridge Trail is near the Iron Mountain trailhead a few miles up paved forest service road 15. In early July 2025, the wildflowers were blooming and the air was clear, providing outstanding views of multiple peaks of the Cascades. The hike from the trailhead off forest service road 15 climbs over 2300 feet to the peak at the top of Browder Ridge at a distance slightly more than six miles one direction. Varied shade loving and sun loving wildflowers c...
