Country’s BBQ Ribbon Cutting: A Fresh Start with Familiar Flavors! Today, I had the pleasure of attending the ribbon cutting for the new Country’s BBQ, and wow – it looks amazing! I’ve made so many wonderful memories at their old location over the years, and while I’ll miss that building, the new one is absolutely stunning. The inside is beautifully decorated, and they even brought the huge rocking chair from the original spot – such a nostalgic touch! Plus, they’ve added a drive-through for those busy days when you’re craving that delicious BBQ on the go. What’s your favorite dish at Country’s BBQ? And what are some of your favorite memories from the old location? I’d love to hear!As a top realtor in the area, I love staying in the loop with all the exciting things happening around to...

Readers and Greeters  This young couple will be waiting to greet you as you go into the main door of our new library!  They may be distracted, however, by this fascinating book that they are sharing.  The brand new Larry and Janett Crain library opened September 18, 2024 and a large crowd attended.  It is a magnificent building with something for everyone inside. You will need to stop at the front desk and pick up a map that shows all the locations.  This young couple was donated by Shirley Moon.  Thank you, Shirley Moon! Here's a picture of the beginning.  This picture that I gave to the library is hanging in the history section of the new library. We've come a long way, Baby!!

If you run a small business and report income and expenses on a Schedule C, the last thing you want is for the IRS to categorize your endeavor as a hobby. Why? Because hobby losses aren't deductible, while business expenses are. The IRS scrutinizes businesses that consistently report losses, and if they suspect your business is more of a "hobby," you could find yourself facing a Schedule C "Hobby Loss" examination. Here’s what to expect and how to defend your business if you’re audited. What is a Hobby Loss Exam? The IRS uses the "hobby loss" rule under IRC Section 183 to prevent taxpayers from deducting losses from activities that aren’t conducted to make a profit. If your business hasn’t generated a profit in three of the last five years (two out of seven for horse-related activities), ...

The Most Common Air Test Pollutant: MoldA simple air test can let you know if you have pollutants building up inside your home. One very common in-home pollutant is mold. Mold can cause an array of health problems that can adversely affect you and your family, such as headaches, wheezing, coughing, dizziness, and shortness of breath. It can also trigger asthma problems, red eyes, and skin rashes. If your air test indicates, you have mold in your home you may be tempted to solve the issue yourself. Mold, however, can prove difficult to get rid of on your own. The Dangers of MoldGrowing mold can damage any material it’s found on, such as drywall and wood, which in turn can impair the structural integrity of your home. It can also grow onto your furniture and damage it, too. Mold feeds on ...

"Man who invented the hamburger was smart; man who invented the cheeseburger was a genius.... Matthew McConaughey National Cheeseburger Day is today, September 18th. (This, by the way, is different from National Burger Day which is celebrated on May 28th). What could be more American, besides Coke and apple pie, than a juicy cheeseburger? And what a great excuse to go off our diets if even for one day. Legend has it that sometime in the 1920's someone in Chicago asked for a slice of cheese to be added to his burger and voila, the birth of the cheeseburger! But there are lots of places that lay claim to having "invented" the cheeseburger. So I suppose we won't ever really know it's origins. It's estimated that the average American eats over 100 burgers per year and while there don't seem...

Beckett has officially stepped into the world of cotillion! This past Sunday marked the beginning of her 6-week journey, and she’s already embracing it with enthusiasm and grace. Along with several of her 5th-grade classmates, both boys and girls, Beckett began learning the ropes of social etiquette, following in the footsteps of her big brother Hudson, who did the same at her age. The program kicked off at the Shirley McPhail School of Dance on Sunday, September 15, where the group tackled the art of introductions and learned some classic moves. They practiced the two-step (because, hey, this is Texas!), line dancing, the foxtrot, and more. Next week? It’s all about western flair! Cotillion isn't just about dancing, though. It’s about teaching these young ladies and gentlemen the impor...

The forecast for Monday, September 16, 2024 called for sun so what better day for some exploring? As it was a Monday, we figured we would have anyplace to ourselves, so off we went to find a new spot for us, Red Meadow Lake.Red Meadow Lake is located near Olney Montana, approximately ten miles from the Canadian border as the crow flies, although it's a lot further if you want to drive it! But back to Red Meadow Lake.AccessTo get to the lake, you need to take Route 93 north through Whitefish. When you get to Olney, you'll make a right onto Olney Crossover Road/Upper Whitefish Road, and you're going to take that about nine miles. At that point, it turns into Red Meadow Creek Road and you'll take that about 11 miles to the lake. Sounds easy, right? How long could that 20 mile drive take? We...

CELEBRATING NATIONAL HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH IN CHARLOTTE From passionate dance to flavorful cooking and beyond, Hispanic culture has richly influenced the United Sates for generations and Charlotte, North Carolina is no exception. Nationally, September 15 to October 15 is dedicated to the history, accomplishments, values and creativity of the Hispanic community.   Hispanic Heritage Week began in 1968 in the United States, when President Lyndon Johnson signed Hispanic Heritage Week into law. In 1988, the celebration was expanded to a month-long celebration when President Ronald Reagan signed National Hispanic Heritage Month into law. Hispanic Heritage Month starts on September 15 because this day is independence day for five Latin American countries. In 1821, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Gu...

Today is Constitution and Citizenship DayConstitution Day is celebrated on September 17…the day in 1787 when the delegates to the Constitutional Convention signed the document that would become our Constitution.  It also recognizes new naturalized citizens to our great country with ceremonies held throughout the country. After 2001, I carried small copies of the Declaration of Independence and Constitution in my travel bag. For me, it’s like carrying my country with me no matter where I am.  Do you remember memorizing the Preamble to the Constitution when you were in school???Can you still recite any of it?? You can find the Preamble to the Constitution here. If you have children in your life, check to see if they’ve read or even heard of it! Did you know that Thomas Jefferson did not s...
