I tend to take business with me on vacation.  I have access to the equiptment & apps that allow me to do business while away. Clients can reach me on my cell & if I'm tied up I'll call them back the second I get a chance. I also try to plan going away around times when business is slowing down, not ramping up. This has worked well for me for a long, long time- until this year. This year I had a real "Princess" of a client who  thought I don't deserve a vacation while her transaction was pending. There was no real issue, just a case of Malignant Narcissism.

  I usually handle it via telephone / internet.  I also have a lady who can act as an assistant or gopher.   

    Most important, since I am a one-man company, I have two Tallahassee Brokers on speed dial who I can call if something serious comes up. They can take over; we can work out a referral or fee if necessary.

My team.  I myself take care of business while away by setting expectations, providing the correct contact info, and putting things on cruise control as much as possible for the time I'll be away.

 

My assistant handles new leads, and my processor will handle and submit any new contracts that come in while I'm out so we don't lose any days.

 

I'm fortunate enough to be able to get away without skipping a beat, and my clients are fortunate enough that I'm enough of a control freak that even while on vacation I'm checking email, voicemail, and usually returning both ; )

One of the realtors in our office Subs for us Praful Thakkar, though we usually have nothing unexpected happening during that time, and leave all files in the 'best possible shape'.  So in almost all cases, there is not alot for someone to do, and with our phones and laptop with us, if needed, we are covered.  We've been lucky, not to have to take a lot of time out of someone else's schedule - though there's always 'Murphy's Law'!

I do.  I just took two weeks in Canada (Quebec City and Ottawa) and got back last week.  I took a call from an agent about writing an offer on one of my listings, discussed an offer with my sellers and cancelled an escrow.  Took only a few minutes of my vacation and (being 3 hours ahead) it was usually the ones right before bed.  So no vacation lost.  I had a friend grab the "in escrow" sign off the listing that fell out.

 

Same thing when I went to England and Ireland in May.
