No scooby snacks. Food & drink = mess + cleaning + possible stained furniture.

Rarely. It gets expensive and I worry about food getting dropped on carpets. I don't think people care all that much

There is potential liability in case of allergic reactions, etc. I would also respectfully ask people to eat outside any food they have brought, and take their apple core with them, please. Give them some tissues to wrap it and take away. Don't throw your garbage in this back yard.
The question to ask is: if I do this (e.g., provide food), is it going to add focus to the house itself? For me, food and drink do not. They draw the focus to the food and drink. So in addition to the mess, the visitor isn't even fully shopping. If they are starving, view the house, take some phone photos and go discuss over coffee and whatever.

I use to but quit doing it. i keep thinking some kid that is allergic to chocolate or peanuts will grab some treat and have an attack, then parents will want to sue me and the owner. I decided it's best to just remove that risk.

Nope. I'm not here to feed the hungry. I will have bottled waters, but that's pretty much it.

Depends on the property and location. Usually simple, water & fruit or cookies. Until recently I had candy. It's gone!

I once had my wife making cookies at an open, a mistake I will not make again.
- Kids making messes
- Parents occupied with kids making messes
- And everyone too distracted to focus on WHY we were there.

No. My personal opinion is that you are not there to feed them, just show them a home.

I used to offer some food all the time. But not any more. Yet, I always have bottles of cold water.

No I do not. I am not there to feed people. I am there to market the property. I know ... I know ... gracious host
It's messy and with kids not telling where the snacks will end up.
231,224
Not a great idea, figure anything you give them will end up on the carpet. water would be an exception ..perhaps... btw...i loooove opens. you learn so much

No, I have never done that, and that's if the house is vacant or occupied Wayne and Jean Marie Zuhl. Here in the Summer, I do put water bottles in the frig for anyone to take though!

I do not set out a platter of cookies or such for prospective buyers.
However, if the visitor self-selects I will invite them to sit and offer refreshment at that time.
