Both of my grandfathers were Real Estate agents back in the 80's. One owned his own company, and the other worked for Century 21. They were both very well known. My grandfather passed away back in 2002, and my mother re-opened his company in his honor. She is now the Broker/Owner and that's when I decided to get my license :) It's been great.

I am a 3rd Generation real estate agent & Realtor, mom was an agent and grandmother was a agent/broker. I often times joke with clients that just means "I should know better!". My wife is a real estate attorney, I continue the joke with "I have my own in house counsel, literally in our house." Good question.

Yes, I am a 3rd Generation Realtor. My grandfather was a "Buyer's Agent" (before they used the term) for an investor/flipper in the Late 70s & early 80s. My mother became a Broker in the early 80s & started her own company to handle the buy/sells for my dad (an investor). She didn't plan to handle other transactions, but buyer leads & seller leads just came (people like her). My brother & I both became licensed after college. Currently I'm the only one an Active Full-time agent, but my parents still have their company & licenses active (just in case).

My Dad held a license for many years. In my third career, I renewed my license to work with my son-in-law and we also had my sister join us. The Team also has support staff of my wife and youngest daughter. So yeah, i think it runs in the family. Brother-in-laws are RE investors and one was a Maufactured home dealer for 36 years and did land home packages in Colorado and Utah.

As it turns out, I have four children. And, all four have been licensed Realtors at some point.

My 76 year old mother still practices, and I've been a broker for 31 years...never worked in the same firm or even the same state.

My daughter started as my assistant when she graduated from college. She then became a buyer's agent on my team. When things slowed down, the team disolved. 3 years ago I started my own firm, she hung her license with me, became a broker and now it is her company! I always said I would be working for her someday.

Yes. My 31 year old son just joined my team and it is working out great. My son has an excellent background for this career..great communication and customer service skils, eager to learn every day, good marketing and sales know how and does not mind working 7 days a week. We set up guidelines and expectations so we would not slip back into a mother-son relationship during business.

Although I'm no longer an agent...
My son followed me into the business for a while but it really wasn't for him. He's still "in the business," however. When he has time he does marketing for his wife and helps out with signs, etc.

Yes, my mother was a Realtor for about 25 years and was on the Board and all that so when I decided to retire from my "first life" after 38 years of Speech Therapy and Special Education, I began at Keller Williams the following week. I think it's in my blood! Don't you agree?

According to my father, my mother had her license. I didn't know this, and God rest her soul, she's no longer here for me to ask. However, if that is the case, I would be second generation. My son is interested in real estate but I don't know if he'll take the plunge.

My grandfather was a real estate agent in Texas all my life. He owned rental properties and I grew up helping him clean and freshen up properties when people moved out. My mother was also an agent in Tennessee and Texas and my husband was an agent and in property management in Oregon. Funny how it does seem to run in families.

My sister and I are both agents. Our father has been licensed since 92. I think he asked my sister to join him so he would have someone to get him lunch ;) I followed in the lst year and we all work on the same team. My dad is a wealth of knowledge and has had so many experiences in regards to real estate, nothing is suprising to him...plus he loves having his girls in the same business that he is in!

Tammy A. - that's sweet, and you probably have an interest in their success in the biz.
Linda C. - that's great that your daughter came back and fell right into step with her parents in the business again.
Jeff P. - I think we all know this business isn't for everybody but at least he gave it not one but two chances.

I forgot, in addition to my grandmother, one of my younger brothers got licensed, tried twice with 2 different brokers, but dropped out both times within 2-3 months. The second time he tried with a partner, they both joined same brokerage, and both quit with 3 months.

My husband and I have been agents for about 14 yrs. Our daughter has been with us again after returning to our area (she was with us for about 3 yrs. before a job transfer took her away for 3 yrs)....I often wonder if we would work the same patterns with unrelated members.

Frank - perhaps if your son hears bits and pieces of what you do as you go about your day, he'll develop an interest in following in your footsteps.
John R. - it was probably meant to happen that day. Give her as much of your wisdom as you can.
Dorte - thats OK... I was, too, for several years.
Larry - not a bad start.
Kimo - you never know... that may change one day.
Gene - very smart of you to think ahead.

Jeff - that's great... and you took your experience to the great state of California!

2nd generation here, My mother wishes she could go and buy and sell but it's not in her cards. My son has express some interest. We will see.

Cary Jo - what a series of events. Good for both of you!
Jeff R. - I'll bet your daughter learned a lot from you.
Tammy - it's probably her knee-jerk reaction to new-found freedom. Never say never... stranger things have happened.
Steve L. - it's not uncommon to see people stay in this business sometimes well past the age when most people retire. That's great!
509,520
Nancy - it's amazing how many former educators are in this business.
Marte - sounds like your son at least has one foot in the business.
Patricia - that's fantastic. Sounds like you and your son are off to a very good start and his skills and characteristics seem well-suited for this business.
509,520
Robert B. - I'd say with 7 grandchildren your odds are pretty good. Just find ways to include them in the business and it's likely at least one will follow.
Karen - what a shame you don't know for certain.
Doyle - that can be a benefit that you all have different specialties and markets.

My daughter ran far and fast when she left for college. She won't ever do this.

Spirit - I like your sense of humor. It's also fantastic to see how many 2nd and even 3rd generation Realtors there are!
Terry - I think when we grow up around it, we understand it and it's just easier to "fall into".
Amanda - that's wonderful. I'm sure your grandfather would've been very proud of what your mother did and that you joined her!
509,520
Michael A. - that's a great legacy you have had now for 3 generations!
Dana - good for you! That's a great attitude.
Alexandra - that's the key word... when it works! In most cases I've seen, it seems to work quite nicely.
509,520
Marianne - I'm certain your father is thrilled to have his daughters follow in his footsteps. Be sure to soak in all the personal knowledge he's prepared to share with you.
John D. - you got me on that one. I hadn't heard of that franchise.
509,520
Jeff - I'm sure how things are done has changed a great deal since your grandmother was in the business.
Ric - It sure does run in your family! That's a lot of family members involved in one way or another in the industry.
Stephanie - that tells me you are a good role model.

I have family also in the business but we all have different specialties, markets and marketing. we try not to talk business at family outings unless its just a quick question. I'm careful not to step on any feet

My grandmother ( Edna Hurst) was a realtor in Falls Church / Vienna VA area, but don't recall anyone else in our family being licensed.
