You have all seen videos of homes decked out in Christmas lights that light up, twinkle and sparkle to the beat of music. But did you know that Ellicott City, Maryland has its very own Christmas Lights House? For years now The Bartlett Family has been putting on a show and entertaining visitors of all ages. For years now I've taken my kids to ooh and aah over it. They've served hot chocolate and popcorn to all who stopped by, have had a bubble machine and dance floor for extra fun and have even organized a Mannequin challenge! Here's a little glimpse of just what you can expect to see at Red Hill Way in Ellicott City during the Holiday Season:  Christmas Lights House Ellicott City, MD I took these clips 3 years ago but please know that my video does not do it justice at all! Check out th...

This Saturday, November 26th, 2016 is Small Business Saturday & the Grand Reopening of Ellicott City's Main Street!July 30th this year I watched the videos patrons & owners of small businesses along Ellicott City's Main Street posted when they were surprised by a record-breaking flood. Horrifying. The 911 calls were gut-wrenching, the images simply heart-breaking. A month later I visited the Ellicott City's Old Town Market to support the small businesses in general and my friend Jill-Ann, artist & owner of The Lavender Whim, in particular. Mid-October I took a stroll along Main Street with mixed feelings. It was still heart-breaking to see plywood instead of beautifully decorated windows and to not be able to pick up a Latte at Bean Hollow, my favorite coffee shop in all of Howard Count...

Today, I carpooled with Alan Gross to the Baltimore meetup at Bare Bones.  And after a lovely lunch, Alan and I took a detour through historic Ellicott City on the way home. Neither of us had seen it since the terrible flood that swept down the main street a few months ago. And it was amazing to see the progress in the restoration and clean up.As I looked at these buildings, some dating back a couple of hundred years, it was impossible not to marvel at how solidly they were built.  And there was no question that if that street had been lined with buildings erected during this century, they would be gone.

We’re saddened at the destruction that resulted from the recent flooding, which ravaged Ellicott City’s Main Street, but we hope our contribution can help the community to rebuild,” said Cindy Ariosa, senior vice president and regional manager...

In the evening hours of July 30th, 2016 Main Street Ellicott City was devastated by a record breaking flood. The eye-witness accounts and videos during and after are truly heart-breaking.Main Street Ellicott City is one of my favorite places in all of Maryland. Main Street Ellicott City means shopping local and supporting small businesses. Main Street Ellicott City means community. And Main Street Ellicott City means home for many. Seeing the outpouring of love and support on social media channels is uplifting. Countless people are wondering: How exactly can I help Main Street Ellicott City after this devastating flood?I can tell you how.Be there when they reopen. Shop your hearts out. Line up at Bean Hollow or the Little French Market instead of a Starbucks. Don't leave a table empty a...

Behind The Lavender Whim is my friend Jill-Ann, a small business owner, artist and illustrator located in Ellicott City, Maryland.  Jill-Ann's paintings are colorful and playful, are printed on greeting cards, note pads, stationary, gift tags and wrapping paper. She also creates custom watercolor paintings and that's just what I've commissioned The Lavender Whim to do a few times for my First Time and Forever Home Buyers. (Closing) Art by local Ellicott City artist, The Lavender WhimLast weekend I had the pleasure to surprise my latest Maryland Home Buyers with a custom painting of their new home in Ashton:It's such a special gift in more ways than one. My clients just recently tied the knot and purchased their first home together. This painting will always remind them of the beginning ...

After a blizzard that resulted in 6 days off from school and another winter storm incoming, I was looking for an activity to combat cabin fever which would a) get us out of the house for a few hours and b) be creative. Since my daughter has been begging me to go back to The Pottery Stop in Ellicott City, MD ever since we celebrated her birthday there last year, I figured it was the perfect place to go!It was quite busy when we got there early this afternoon but we lucked out with the last open table. There's also a bar-type table which looked really inviting but it's probably not the most comfortable for smaller kids.Picking our pottery pieces was easier than I had anticipated. The Pottery Stop has a lovely variety,  ornaments, mugs, bowls, plates, piggy banks, plagues, flower pots and ...
