I see this as a weeding out of the weak business models. In fact, the discount/iBuyer brokerages were the FIRST to pull their own plugs.
I think our creativity is what keeps our businesses alive...and those iBuyer/computer businesses lack human creativity. Their model simply does not support that type of thinking outside the box (which is exactly what we are having to do right now).

I have a feeling that things will return to the old ways pretty quickly. People are creatures of habit and once the distancing rules are lifted, most people will be touching, hugging, kissing, pulling open all cabinets/doors in a house they're seeing, going into crowded venues, stopping at the store daily, etc.
Most people. Some will change their ways. I know I for one used to go grocery shopping almost daily. I liked the freedom to make whatever i want that night for dinner with fresh ingredients. BUT. I gain a lot of time in my daily schedule by only shopping once a week or less. So I'm going to stick with my new normal in that regards. If I forget to get something, I make adjustments.
I also think a "good" thing about the shutdown is that people are spending more time at home, reconnecting (or maybe some overdo disconnecting) with loved ones, fixing things that are broken in the house, and more. I've been able to spend a lot of time getting our land ready for planting flowers, vegetables, grass, so I'm viewing all that as a silver lining.

I'm not shut down. I'm shelter in place, a huge difference in actuality & mindset.
I'm essential services and working 5-6 days per week.
I'm finding it validating that 85% of my business is unphased by shelter in place, busier than ever and almost overwhelming. Unfortunately I need the 15% missing to get an escrow open.
Spiritually I believe...
God sent a new flood, it was Wuhan Virus and HE's reminding us what matters most. Not all will survive it, many will be resilient...most will re-prioritize.

1. Same as after a hurricane with no power...
2. Distance learning has been around for eons and works for some of the people some of the time but from what I've been reading, the teachers still play an important role in the student's development. As far as RE, there will always be some people who want the personal touch and the level of service that an agent can provide.
3. I think everyone will learn some business lessons but most will probably revert back to business as it it used to be done. Some will stay with the new normal but overall, I don't see a major shift.

For some, perhaps even many, it will act as a speed bump with no business lessons ... and resume business as usual. The biggest lessons to be learned are uncovering the truth, who and what to believe.

We have been holding steady here Annette by limiting outside activity, except for the back yard. Went on a listing appointment yesterday and 4 local golf courses just opened up again. Hoping we are one of the 22 states that will be getting back to business here pretty quick!

Nothing stays the same and you and I reinvented real estate every day to keep it the best UX possible. Coronovirus or not. But cyber real estate offices opened round the clock, holidays too and here you go, help yourself buffet loaded with everything they need. If you were not using video, not blogging, if your online presence was bleak and you are the kind of dinosaur Herb Tarlek agent that only takes a buyer and seller seriously if they darkened your lobby door, here comes a rude awakening.
Our office is not "shut down" and we are busy. Big box stores were dropping like flies before the coronovirus. The spike headed punk virus cell just accelerated the shift or demonstrated just how far ahead or behind a real estate agency foot print really was Annette Lawrence , Palm Harbor, FL 727-420-4041 .
More than ever blogging matters to put your community on the map... the one the buyer can not longer easily physically visit so you step it up to deliver your localism thru the wireless air and glass fiber strands. Don't make them have to chase you, experience delays. Stock your website and social media information shelves for whenever, whatever they want to "graze" on your area information, the current listing inventory in your community.

I think what people will carry over from this is taking precautions to avoid germs; better hygiene- handwashing, increased use of sanitizer. I think the hoarding is coming to an end because store's have adjusted & you can find toilet paper, sanitizer or whatever it is you hoard. In a shut down with no power I will fill up my gas containers & start up the generator. Would be nice to move to an automatic start generator.

I have plans in place for a no-power scenario. Equipment being released in June and will be purchased release day.
I do not see schools moving all online. All the kids I know (many of my friends have them) are all eager to go back and see their friends in person. I don't think the "no-touch" model is here to stay anywhere except places where it previously existed. Real estate is a very emotional purchase for most people, that requires seeing, feeling and using all of one's senses. That cannot be done by any form of technology currently in existence. Maybe in some "Total Recall" consciousness transfer technology future, but not in 2020.

Annette,
I have seen what seems like zillions of predictions and theorizing. And there are many inflated perspectives and media hounds who are looking to line their pockets with ad revenues.
Like with every event, there will be some impact, and much will go back to the way it was.A

We should learn better hygiene habits such as washing our hands more thoroughly; even nurses weren't so good at it lately (they just dabbed at the disenfectant rather than scrubbing their hands between patients).
