I've been a member for what 10 years and I'm still not there LOL

Once I got on a roll I arrived at 1m in a few years.  Of course, back then, getting points added up took quite a bit longer.  There are a lot more ways to earn points now.

My first took 2.5 years, 100k every 3 months

the second took less than two years, now it is easy to get 100k every two months.

I'm still trying to get to 500,000!

I joined in 2006, became "king of the hill" in 2007, then went MIA except for brief returns until last summer - following which I hit that mark...

I no not remember but it was a long time.

About 4 1/2 years

I'm not there yet lol & I was one of the old timers. I too took a few months to post.

You can definitely get there faster now as you get points for up to 20 comments/day (rather than 10) + 20 answers in Q&A (+ upvotes, etc) and contests w/ higher point totals.  And, you get points for subscribers/subscribing.

I just crossed 800k, but now it is not that exciting as first hundreds. 

Anna Hatridge if you participate in ALL - and have full reciprocation, you can earn 1,000,000 points in about 20 months!

Several years.  It is much easier to rack up points today than in the early days of AR.

It took me almost 3 years to reach that milestone. I didn't start postings regularly for several months and points back then were so much harder to get.

I joined back when there were very few chances for points.  Blogs the same but only 10 comments.

10,000 points a month would have been a lot and now if I hustle i can do close to 40,000

I started ActiveRain the summer of 2006. I hit a million points in 2012

It was a while - about 5 years.  It was before I got obsessed with points!

If you get the maximum points it will happen sooner than you think.  It is a committment though.

I can't remember Anna but if you are really active it does not take long.

I can't recall but it seemed like forever at the time. Keep up the good work - writing posts, commenting, and participating here and the points will tally up fast!

I had to go look, it took me from Sept of 08 until January of 13  The second Million came faster

We have 950,000 and have been pretty active members since December 2011. 

I've been here, sometimes silently, from the beginning and still nowhere near the mark. While points are nice to have and they do tend to get you featured more prominently, they are not the only things to pay attention to. I have seen people get tons of points with loads of market reports.  You have to do what is best for you. Blogging daily is a huge commitment.  You need to blog and comment and interact, yes, but how much is totally what you have time for.

It took me about 4 years, but really I didn't do much of anything for at least the first 15-18 months.

It took longer to get the first million as i was not as active as i should have been. I think it was 3 years. I am heading to 2 million at a much faster pace

This has been  interesting watching the different comments. I am a regular commenter but I need to increase my blogging and blog comments. That helps more.

I really do not remember.  I do recall when I joined believing that I would never get there ... and I did 

I think at least 2 and a 1/2 year.

Anna Hatridge It took a while, but I was more interested in promoting my company than just the points.

The first two years about 5,000 points. Then I started to add them up! Think maybe 6 years or more!

It showed up in its own timing and I enjoyed knowing it was coming too

I gave up on 1,000,000

It was about the journey for me -- not sure how long it took.  I joined and was a lurker for a while before I started to comment, then post and finally to be more consistent.  

The results for me are not necessarily measured by the points I have received(I like them even though they are not redeemable) but by the experiences, the knowledge and the people(who I have met in person and virtually).
