I know I am in the minority here, but I do not believe in staging. On the rare occassion on higher end listings, it can make the difference. Working with so many buyers, I see it first hand, most appreicate seeing a property vacant. They can envision where they are going to put their "stuff". I see why you are asking, on a similar note I work with a professional photographer who is also a Realtor. I dont have to let him in, uses keysafe and dropbox the pictures over, works nice.

If it's your listing and you trust him not to try to take your clients.

If you need to build a deck and there is only one source of material, do you really have a choice? Yes you do, you can choose a pool instead of a deck.
Your question is about engaging a potential competitor into your business affairs. One would be naive to do so without extended observation and associate feedback.
The question you need answered is, "What did the stager do when he found his furniture inside an expired listing?"
You can have the stager/agent sign a non-compete or exclusive agreement or referral agreement on day one. That should cover you.

Why not?
the more we cooperate and help each other, the more our properties sell.

NO, i would not hire another licensed agent to stage, not if they were active in real estate as well. If they were not active, perhaps

if you have the listing and he can't snag it, I'd use him....we've done that in our area....there was another RE/MAX agent in another town who is also an interior decorator/stager....we've used her....and we would do that before we listed the property....we trusted her....

If the stager is the only one in the area, you should be there with the stager when the stager meets your seller clients. It is not a good idea to have another agnet contact your clients.

Nancy - I could see all sorts of possible negative things happening, and don't usually like to hire someone I am doing a real estate transaction with.
It could all work out great, but I would be a little nervous and probably seek out another professional stager, or at least get a few different quotes.

I don't see why not. You have the listing and the other realtor has the expertise of stagging. If he/she give you a quote that is fair, it seems like a win win situation. Now I tend to always look on the positive side of things. I don't believe the realtor/stager would be willing to ruin his reputation if he acted unethical.

I do not see a conflict with it. If you have seen some of their work and think it will help, go for it! Good luck!
