Worthington Homes for Sale Worthington Homes for Sale When potential home buyers think of a great deal they normally think of bank owned homes, short sales, and auctions. In Worthington another option is available for many buyers. Many of the builders have inventory homes available for sale. An inventory home is a home the builder has purchased that is finished and ready for sale. It could be available because someone else had it built and could not close on the home. Regardless of why it is available, once it has an occupancy permit the builder is paying a mortgage on the home. Instead of paying the mortgage they drastically reduce the price to get it sold. They also know you could still build in the subdivision so they have to lower the price to make this brand new never lived in home...

It's not the 2009 TV show Glee (I've seen it a couple of times...) Worthington Glee Club 1937 from Don O'Brien who grew up in Worthington.  Visit O'Brien's  Flickr photostream for lots of interesting photos of Worthington from the 1930s and 1940s.      O'Brien wrote on Flickr,  "I was in 7th grade when I took the photo with my 620 Kodak folding camera. I think Miss Sanford, the Worthington school music teacher is the leader. I don't recognize any of the girls because they were several years older than I was. The photo was taken in the old high school building, now the new art center. In 1937, grades 9-12 were in the building" The ribbon cutting for the Peggy McConnell Arts Center in the "Packard" building was Sunday I believe.    The architect of the original building was Frank Packar...

"We sell Brookside Woods" Trying to decide recently whether to attend an office social function I thought of Barbara and Jim Gustafson who were HER Realtor agents... Barbara and Jim have moved to Florida now?  Or they are traveling around the country (or the world?) with their home base in Florida. Barbara Gustafson is real social.   Real Living HER Worthington social functions often make me think of Barbara.   Barbara has a distinctive sense style.  I have an internal WWBD (what would Barbara do) when it comes to accessorizing as time goes on.   When I started wearing antlers with flashing bulbs on them for Christmas, it was from thinking "WWBD." When I moved to Columbus in 1990 Barbara Gustafson was selling real estate alone, well with HER Realtors but  Jim was still working for.... S...

Worthington haunted or just historic? Haunted Worthington Worthington is old.  Worthington was settled in 1803.  I had a client tell me once that a house had to be haunted since it was so old, that it had to have had someone die in it... The house was not in Worthington, it was on the northeast side of Columbus, I don't really even think it was that old.  Same era as Clintonville I believe.  It's all relative. Worthington had a number of cemeteries...  Walnut Grove is one of the newer "graveyards." From The Worthington website  Worthington Cemeteries  "Visit the Worthington Memory Web site to access a searchable database of cemeteries in Worthington, Ohio."  I knew of Walnut Grove (ghost is not real of course) and St. John's Episcopal Cemetery, but I am not sure I realized Worthingto...

Early October News on the Worthington.org site - Worthington's Kilbourne Memorial Building is getting a little work done. Kilbourne exterior work  a .pdf document says:  "The former library and later School Board office, now owned by the City of Worthington, is getting a facelift including many exterior improvements." Old landscaping ripped out... new to be installed in the spring of 2010 New metal roof New gutters Paint on the trim I had walked around Worthington's Kilbourne Memorial Building and took some photos in August.  It needed some work. I took these photos today with the paint scraped off the door frame, a dumpster out in front, caution tape and some gaping holes in the fascia.  Worthington is getting the old building ready for it's future.  The building got new options this...

Worthington - October 24, 1938   Don O'Brien identifies his photo as "Fund Raising at Corn Husking Contest" on Flickr and says this was October 24, 1938.  He says candy bars cost 5 cents. He also identifies the event as taking place at the Walter Williams farm on Galena Road at the juncture with E. Wilson Bridge Road.  Map - the intersection of Worthington Galena and E. Wilson Bridge Road today.  There are businesses on the north-side of E. Wilson Bridge Road backing to 270 now. Wonder if there was a Huntley Road back then.  East of the junction of Worthington Galena Road and E. Wilson Bridge is the Budweiser brewery now. I wonder whether the Walter Williams farm was on the east or west side of Galena Road or both. Are today's McCord Park, The Chiller, the Worthington Recreation Center...

A video of "The Tale of Rap, Rap, Rap" -  a Worthington Ghost Story A spooky Worthington tale brought to you by the Worthington Public Library. Today the old building is 'Fine Lines'  a store that sells paper, cards, stationery, wrapping paper, wedding invitations, pens... and that sort of thing. 'Fine Lines' is at 657 High Street in Worthington, in Old... Olde Worthington. The story goes the building on High Street just north of the Worthington Inn was built in 1890 as a general store. The Worthington Library site says: " At the time the store was in business there was a customer named Irwin who was very unhappy with the seed that he bought for his garden. He claimed that the seed did not grow. Irwin became angry and began to rap on the store's back door very, very hard. Laurel Tacoma,...

Worthington Football Friday Night  - 1941   Another photo of Worthington from an earlier era from Don O'Brien who grew up in Worthington.  O'Brien's Flickr photostream has lots of pictures of Worthington from the 1930s and 1940s. Link to his Flickr photostream in the photo credit at the bottom. I don't really know that it was a Friday night game.  The "Football Friday Night, Football Friday Night" thing just popped into my head looking at the photo.  Channel 4? Worthington  Football Friday Night  - VIPs at a football game Who were the Worthington VIPs at the Football game?  According to O'Brien's notes on Flickr left to right "Mr. Phinney, the high school custodian" and "Jim Talliday, police chief (actually, the whole police department)" and "Ray Heischman, teacher and basketball coach"...

Old Worthington Business District  in 1938 or 1939 I don't like the e on the end of  the old in "Old Worthington", that is how the Worthington business association spells it, Olde Worthington.  The residential area surrounding the businesses on High Street is called Old Worthington, I am using it for all of it.   Another old picture from Don O'Brien who grew up in Worthington. If you have an interest in Worthington History you have to visit his photos on Flickr for pictures of Worthington in the 1930s and 1940s.   Old Worthington Business District - corner of High Street and ... The sign on the corner says: Free Parking.  I am trying to figure out what corner this is. O'Brien says Home Market, a grocery store in the photo.   I wish I knew what the Home Market's address was.
