Richie Alan Naggar sums it up well! And, speaking on behalf of someone who bought an energy saving top of the line dishwasher, it takes 2 hours to cycle and you likely have to wash twice. Where's the savings?

I agree with the Captain!  My dishwasher cycle no longer has rinse and hold nor a short cycle.  Everything is an hour or more.

Dont get me started on the 3 hour self clean process for the oven

How about almost every part replaced within first year on my whirlpool french door, no icemaker, refrigerator.  After 5 years I replaced the ice maker for $350.

There was nothing wrong with the 40 year old Kenmore refrigerator or the other appliances when we did the upgrade.

A throw away society continues to abound

Per the EPA, 13% of all greenhouse gases come from residential and commercial applications. Less than half of that is caused by "direct" emissions which includes things like heat, organic waste, water treatment plants, air conditioning and refrigeration emissions. While it's not specifically stated, I suspect less than 1/2 of 1% is probably a result of all appliances including the dreaded gas stoves and now dishwashers. If manufacturers can make dishwashers more efficient, that would be great. But why aren't we focusing on those things that make up the other 99 1/2%?

I mean, look at this chart directly from the EPA...  Electricity is the second biggest cause of greenhouse emissions. Let's make that one bigger! haha

If the appliances do their job efficiently and at the same time reduce the monthly utility costs for the property, then yes. But....,am sure our wonderful utility company will come up with a reason to raise their prices to offset their loss of income.

The climate change hoax is nothing but an opportunity to take more money from responsible Americans and shove it into their deep, deep pockets. The biggest threat is misinformation, 24-7 because as we know, lies go much further than the truth!

I doubt it. It will be what it will be at the end of the day. And hopefully it doesn't end up the way low flush toilets ended up... with people flushing twice.

Add value and desirability? NO!

You would not believe how many people buy new construction or a rehabbed property and the first thing they do is replace all the appliances with new in the style, color, etc. that they prefer. Same with flooring, it is not uncommon to see brand new carpet thrown out because the buyer wanted tile or hardwood.

Someone has too much time on their hands to even suggest this. And it wasn't that long ago that Energy Star appliances were developed for energy savings so why do we need this?

The "green agenda " forced on the American Citizen and taxpayer by the politicians is ruining America for generations. The deliberate attempt to destroy the fossil fuel industry, natural gas, coal and oil is crippling the economy. Sooner or later interest rates and policy will reach the local real estate markets.

I think a black market will emerge for older dishwashers.  Just like for gas stoves.  I see it already with washing machines, the older ones with the agitators do a far better job than the ones without.

Great, more rules. I actually think that most dishwashers that are newer probably are already eco friendly.

It's not going to make a difference in a sale other than you have to have one.

Despite generally liking anything that conserves natural resources, I don't think it will add any value to a house.  It is just a small minor component.

All I can say is it's about freaking time! More efficient dishwashers in the U.S. will surely save the planet.

To answer your question, though... "No". It has a dishwasher. That's what matters.

Short answer NO... to a Market Value, but a yes to a Feel-Good Value!

Like Solar, rain gutters and other items, it only adds Value to those type of Buyers wanting them. And as of today, I have never had a Buyer requesting a house having any of them.

It's like replacing a roof, a lot of Sellers think this should add more Market Value to the house. But it doesn't, but it helps selling the house because it provides a Feel-Good Value. Now, if they replaced a roof from it original to like Spanish Tile, Tin etc. this would add more Market Value because it's not just a replacement / Maintenace it's an Improvement...

A moving experience!

The article also states that "most dishwashers on the market are already well below the federal standard, with most using 35 gallons per cycle or less".

So unless I'm misunderstanding (which I readily admit is a possibility) this maybe prove to be another tempest in a teakettle, similar to all of the brouhaha about the banning of gas stoves a little while ago.

If you do full loads and not a few items, the bottom line savings and health benefits increase. But like showers, does Suzie or Joey camp out in there or did someone add a carwash token dispenser or install a smaller water heater that runs out of hot water to speed up the process Fred Griffin Florida Real Estate ?

There are always ways to get around these rules. My brother lives in Los Angeles and wanted to replace his showerhead. He wanted the exact same one but it couldn't be shipped to him from Amazon because it wasn't a "water saver faucet," and thus, against California laws.

So I bought it and mailed it to him.

It's a joke and we are being had. If you require a lightbulb to provide only half the light, how many lightbulbs will you use?  This may be a bad example since there don't seem to be too many lightbulbs left in government so here is another example: just spent a few days away traveling and observed that all those water saving self flushing toilets are happily flushing away two or three times per use for not reason. Seems a greater waste of good water than the old style commodes. It'll be the same with this new proposal.
