I am sure lots of people are doing commercial real estate. However, I am not among them.

So much craziness in the world. I don't do commercial but if I had to do a commercial deal I would call upon my friend Candice A. Donofrio for advice since she specializes in commercial real estate.

I list and sell some commercial. Currently have listed a former bank and just listed a warehouse. I can say that some commercial agents do not like anyone other than their few to list commercial. Even without them showing my listings i sold a firehouse, former hardware store and lumberyard recently.

Dishonest dealings have been performed by those predisposed to that type of practice since before people had to have licenses to broker real estate! some use their smarts to do it honestly and a smaller percentage take the low road of dishonesty.

Interesting article but a little short on details of what IP was stolen and how (sorry, that's the stuff I'm interested in). Theft of trade secrets was always a serious concern in the tech space and something I was involved with in my corporate Info Sec life. Had a case I discovered that got me major kudos from the CISO in front of the entire Info Sec team (several hundred people across the country and into Europe).
It's hard when you recruit people from one company to another as they'll often have a wealth of knowledge about how you do things. This lead to quite a few lawsuits in California back in the late 90s and even to the finding that non-compete agreements were illegal. Those were huge in IT back in the 90s. I remember signing at least three of them in my career, even after they were deemed unenforceable.

I do mainly residential real estate. However I have dabbled a little. I may be listing a commercial property in about 2 weeks. May need to call on Candice A. Donofrio if I have need of her expertise!

It seems to be busy here too. I don't sell commercial but we don't see offices stay vacant for long.

Remember when Zdevil raided the upper management of NAR and with that raid IP and market strategies went to Zdevil.
NAR whimpered about IP theft.
What happened?
Everybody thinks their ideas are from their own creativity failing to recognize they are 95% derived from the work of others generally infused without deliberate intent.
Commercial is very much the 'wild, wild, west' where more creativity exists than in the disciplines of residential real estate and the associated sea of smiley faces. In commercial one can leverage their knowledge and resources with much more profitability than residential and let the attorneys do all the heavy lifting.

on occasion, but it's not our focus in our firm. Mostly we refer to a 100% commercial agent outside our firm. But once in a while something in a rural area zoned commercial, but not in current commercial use we will handle.

I've had several industrial/commerical leases this year, the completion is fierce, prices are high. Unfortunately , we still have many tenants occupying the spaces without paying and LLs can not evict them due extended/phased moratorium on evictions.

Not that competitive around here. There are hundreds of commercial buildings that have been sitting vacant for over 5 years, yet they continue to build more.

It takes a lot of political clout to get prosecutors to press charges on something like this.

Gary,
In our 20 plus years of commercial real estate, we never had issues with anyone. There were 500-600 of us on the Westside of Los Angeles, and other that a few (counting on one hand) , everyone was above board and lots of fun to work with! And what Candice A. Donofrio said often true, that residential agents do not know how to handle commercial. We would tell them, that we would take care of everything, and all they had to do was be the delivery person, and coordinator. We would happily pay their half of the commission. And we usually referred residential. A

Commercial real estate sales, done correctly, require a different set of skills then the skills owned by most residential real estate practitioners. I do not have that skill set. I have a friend who recently asked if I could help sell a commercial building owned for about thirty years. I helped by referring my friend to an agent who does have commercial brokerage skills.
