I use the stuff included with Windows. I can't say it is the best, but it does a decent job in my experience.

I use free AVG. Someone just had problems with Norton paid the other day. I think they are a hog.

The free version of SuperAntiSpyware
Malwarebytes is good, but I think they dropped the free version.

That's really hard to say. I use a paid version to ensure a very robust system.

Never liked any when I had Windows. Now with Apple products, don't need any.

Wow thanks for all the response but it seems the consesus may be that the free may be as good as the paid. I did hear about Kerspersky and the issues but I am probably good sticking with Avast

AVG has a good free version as does AVAST. NOD32 is another good one. Free vs. paid all depends on the features you want/need. For me, I have the paid version so I can remotely control and monitor my parent's systems. The other included features I could do without.
Avoid McAfee, Norton and Kapersky. The first two are resource hogs and the third is in bed with the KGB.

I have been using a combo of Windows Defender (free) and MalewareBytes (free) for about 6 months. So far no problems (you can't see me, but I am knocking on wood right now).

I've used Kapersky, Norton and now using the one that comes with Windows and it works just fine for me.

Norton is the least effective software. Right now I use internet service provider version which is already included in the subscription.
