Hello Debbie.  I believe it is imparitive to have at least one trusted agent you work with so you know things are being properly handled while you are gone.  If I go on vacation, or even weekend get a way I want to know I can have my phone off for the day and at most check for emergencies from that trusted agent. The agent I work with is currently away.  Yesterday I was able to do a You Tube of a home for her out of state clients and they are now doing offer, picked up lockbox from another clients propane tank so he could exchange for a larger one, and have a viewing set up for Tuesday so her clients do not need wait till she gets back.  Those type of things take a lot of pressure off when you are out of town.  Mark

Yes, I do that when I go on vacation for a longer time period.  Depending in the extend of work, I compensate and if they get any leads from my listings, they are theirs. It's worth it, I know my customers are well taken care of and I don't have to worry about coming back to a mess.

It is importnat to have one or two agents who can help you when you are away. You can do the same for them.

Absolutely, Debbie.  Finding an agent or two who can cover your business while you're away is something that I think all of us should do.

Not any more Debbie. We asked a colleague to handle a buyer of ours. After a phone call from the buyer saying she will never do business with us again because of the way this other Realtor handled her transaction, we will NEVER do this again!

It all about the compensation. Make ti worth their while and you can stay on vacation PERMANENTLY. Now that is unconventional.

I am in the process of building a team with both some traditional and non traditional ideas just for this. 

I have arrangements with colleagues in the office where we reciprocate for each other when we go away.

When we absolutely need someone, we have them briefed with access as necessary to information that will help complete whatever task while we are gone.

I do team up with other agents. You always need someone you can trust for backup. Yet, they are not necessary need to be agents under the same broker.

I have no choice but to do so Debbie. Lucky for me I have a few friends that would help me if I was not available and I do the same for them but it is not the same trust level as AR.
