Whether negotiating a deal or listening to understand the challenges of a first time home buyer, he remains focused on the best possible outcome for the client. Understanding the need to pay attention to details while closely monitoring the big picture, Mike’s customer care priorities focus on thoroughly educating clients about the buying or selling process so they are making the most informed decision possible. Utilizing the power of a team, Mike focuses on activities that are specific to the task of either getting a home sold or finding the best home option for his buyers. With extensive experience in home construction and design, he provides a depth of knowledge far beyond the norm which results in better educated buyers and sellers.
Born and raised in small towns across Iowa, Mike’s childhood experiences included Boy Scouts, playing football, baseball, basketball, starting a lawn mowing and snow removal business at the age of 10, and working on farms every summer. Those years in Iowa taught him a strong work ethic and instilled a high expectation for integrity in all that he set out to accomplish. From college, to Fortune 100 business sales and leadership, to real estate and construction company start-ups, his perspective on business outcomes was highly trained and always driven to high standards of customer care.
Mike’s real estate expertise has deep roots. It began in 1998 in Omaha, Nebraska as a solo agent. Within a few years, satisfied clients led to more referrals than he could effectively care for alone. In response to this growth, Mike implemented proven Keller Williams business systems and processes while creating a team of specialists to assist him serving 35-40 real estate clients yearly during the next decade. The result was higher level of service and the ability to service a growing number of clients while upholding the high standards of customer service. Studying architecture and working construction through college gave Mike an appreciation and understanding of building components and processes which would eventually lead to startup of his custom home contracting business in 2005. After completing design and construction of 8 custom homes and influenced by the slowdown of the 2007 recession, Mike closed his contracting company in 2010.
With a son graduating college and with the fever to make a major change in his life, Mike sold his business assets and moved to Anacortes WA in September 2011, entertaining thoughts of an early retirement. Afflicted with a lifelong passion to sail, Mike worked as a yacht broker searching for the ideal offshore cruising sailboat to fulfill his dreams of sailing to Alaska via the Inside Passage.
Two significant events happened that changed his life journey. First, he met Phyllis, whose shared passion for sailing and the sea brought them into a life partnership (to be married in 2015!). The second series of events found Mike and Phyllis researching potential investment real estate together. This activity reignited Mike’s interest in real estate, as well as the creative process of owning and operating his own business. Together Mike and Phyllis became licensed Washington real estate brokers in 2014 and started Puget Cascade Properties LLC, a real estate services and investment company. Both Mike and Phyllis bring a wealth of expertise and local knowledge to the business.
