web BEACH NOTES |
I have been a real estate agent working in a highly specialized resort market in Ocean City, New Jersey ... the largest year-round South Jersey shore community as well as the most northern section in Cape May County ... since 1993. My involvement in "Active Rain" only began in mid-December, 2008 ... but as a former educator; my training and inclination is to teach, to prepare, to have the individual learn ... so I have brought that with me to my second career real estate.
I am a retired high school principal from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania having spent 32 years in public education teaching in all three levels: elementary, middle school, and high school. My school/administrative career provided me with some special skills that have assisted me in the real esatate field: in particular ... negotiations, writing, and interpersonal skills.
I have been involved in both residential sales and summer rentals throughout my real estate career. I live and had worked in the northern part of the barrier island that is identified as Ocean City ... specifically the Northend and the Gardens. Having done that, I know just about everything about the area from Sixth Street north to the end of the island. But recently I made a move to another real estate agency broadening my horizons just a bit.
I have taken an active role with the Ocean City Board of Realtors starting as the Orientation & Education Committee Chair, later teaching "The Code of Ethics" workshops to all new members. I completed seven years as a Board member for OCBOR with committee roles in Education, Public Relations, and Strategic Planning. I contninue on the Professional Standards Committee and serve as a Mediator for the Ocean City Board of Realtors.
This second career in real estate has special meaning to me, and I view it much more than a job. It's become a "lifestyle commitment" living and working in this resort market here in Ocean City, New Jersey. When I considered making this change fairly early in my fifties, I felt "gray hairs" would probably enjoy working with another "gray hair." As I recently told my wife, it now may be "balding/thinning" buyers and owners might like working with "similar real estate agents." I certainly go the extra mile with all my clients ... I truly value the client relationship with my goal being to "Personalize the Client Relationship."
It is hard not to be active in Ocean City. As I tell clients, renting, buying, or owning in Ocean City is more than an investment, it is a lifestyle change. I am a walker, a biker, and a tennis player ... walking my 10,000 steps and more per day or biking around Ocean City.
A recent (about 4 years ago) illness resulted in bypass surgery for me giving me insight into the fragile aspect to life. But I have taken a very serious posture toward a healthy diet, exercise, etc. I find myself now in better shape and condition than I was back in my 40s and 50s.
I'm also a Journal writer, a writer for selected magazines, and a mystery writer trying to do my 100+ words a day before most people think about getting up. But I'm not to busy to provide you with the kind of professional advice in real estate that you should expect. Expectations, relationships, and reputation are what it is all about.
Most Buyers coming into Ocean City are looking for a second home or investment property. Any part of the island has enough variety to provide you with almost any type of property to meet your needs and interests ... but also offers a variety of sizes, shapes, locations, and prices of condominium properties which is often "the starting point for many Buyers.
If you are an Owner in the Northend or Gardens, you have probably already heard my name, or we have met as I make my rounds throughout this end of the island. If you're thinking about selling your property, or simply want some reliable information regarding its value; I'm the person you want to contact. I value this experience which always further enhances my skills and knowledge.
Living and working in Ocean City has changed my life. I am an advocate for the community, and I value the opportunity to work with new people to the island ... sure, I'd like to sell you a property; but more than that ... I would like you to discover the opportunities that I have experienced here as well.
So whatever your "Buying or Selling Needs," I have done it as a Buyer and an Owner and an Agent ... My wife and I purchased a second home, we purchased an investment property, we relocated to Ocean City, and although "not retired," I did retire and move to Ocean City ... but I immediately started a full time second career whereby I have worked with many Buyers and Sellers "buying, renting, listing, marketing, and selling" shore properties in Ocean City, New Jersey.
I like living on a barrier island in the changing seasons of the year. At the end of the summer I know we are heading into the best part of the year ... warm days, cool evening, continuing beach days. And then the holiday months arrive including snow ... and it often becomes another favorite part of the year. I'm a reader ... sitting by the fireplace in the late afternoon or evening. Spring means a major change in activity: the spring buying period and the arrival of the second home owners returning to the island. That's a busy time for me to be followed by the second busy time: the summer rental season.
I can't imagine living anywhere like Ocean City, and as one can see ... all of the seasons are great. But it can be a quiet little town during the winter months. Only 10, 000 of us left here after many leave for Florida. My second career has been quite a wonderful experience for me. I enjoy real estate. I look forward to helping people through the sale and rental process. I'm a writer so I do a weekly newsletter for my owners and buyers ... a monthly one for my rental tenants. This year (2013) I also started a third newsletter for owners renting during the summer. All are entitled BEACH NOTES which has become my brand since I started in the business back in 1993.
Having been a high school principal for 17 years, I have gained valuable insights regarding conflict, meetings, working with all kinds of people. I also bring negotiation skills and listening skills along from those years in school administration.
Having been in real estate for over 20 years, I have a solid understanding of Ocean City properties, and I look forward to working with buyers and sellers in all sorts of challenging ways.
"The Ocean City (NJ) sales and rental market with special emphasis and expertise in the 'Northend & Gardens' ... a senior agent with great skills, common sense, and personal interest in the Client."
