Get ready for your aspen photos trip in Colorado.It is getting close to that time of year for people to head to the mountains of Colorado with their camera ready to take those aspen pictures.  You may want to check out Boreas Pass Road. between Como and Breckenridge.  Como is a town with a population of 20 people, it was name by coal miners from Como, Italy.  The pass is small 11,481-foot, spotting places along the way where you can stop stretch your legs and get some great pictures of the aspens.Directions:  U.S. Highway 285 to Boreas Pass Road, 40 miles west of Bailey or 10 miles north of Fairplay. 09/17/2024

Painted eggs from May 1998 EGGS'travaganzaWay back in 1998 many citizens and I attended a corporate fund-raising event at Harding representing the White County Medical Center.  Way back then lots of folks around Searcy were raising ostriches and other different birds or animals.  Ostrich eggs were plentiful.  Local artists were asked to contribute a hand painted egg for auctioning off.  Liz Howell, now a highly successfuly REALTOR with her own real estate office, planned and held the auction.  Eggs were displayed on tables and a silent auction was held!I bought two.  One by Lee Freppon and one by Phyllis Alexander. Happy 13th Anniversary to my wonderful son John and his beautiful wife, Erika! It feels like just yesterday we were celebrating their unforgettable wedding at Mercury Hall in Austin, Texas. After months of meticulous planning, the day finally arrived, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. Erika was an absolutely radiant bride, and John was beaming with happiness as a handsome groom by her side.The ceremony was heartfelt, full of meaning, and the reception that followed was a true celebration! We enjoyed a delicious dinner, indulged in the most decadent cake, and then the dancing began. Photo Journalism September 15, 2024 by Patricia  This is the story of the little cabin in the woods and other structures too. There was no tour or information booth to get the history on the property owners, so all I can share is what I could only imagine. My story begins on September 14, 2024 in the early morning. The weather was in the low 70 degrees. I took the Green Dragon trail to get to the cabin at the Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning. After miles of hiking through the woods, you can only imagine what I was thinking.  My initial reaction was, what a great place to bring scouts and to teach them about Pioneer Living. Motivational Monday…Make Your MemoriesThis weekend, we celebrated the life of my sister-in-law’s father.  He passed away almost 5 months to the day he lost his great love and wife..Mrs. A. During the services his daughters, grandchildren, cousins and other close family members shared funny and sweet stories about him.   My niece recalled that her grandfather was always there to pick her up from activities if needed. He stressed the importance of family first, no matter what differences you may have  His nephew, who grew up on the same block, recalled the encouragement his Uncle Pete gave him when upon graduation from college, he decided to join the military.  One of his granddaughters remembered how much he loved talking to people. Celebrating the Nisson Brothers Band of Washington, Utah  The Nisson Brother's Band has been a fixture in the southern part of Utah for many years. Their musical talent has neen handed down through the generations. Their father, Quentin played the piano, fought in World War II and the Battle of the Bulge, returning home safe to enrich people's lives with the sounds of music. Here is a photo of The Nisson Band that played at special events such as parades, birthdays, Independent Day celebrations. They are riding on what was known as the‘serenade truck’ also known as the ‘granny wagon’. Time to Prepare: 15 minutes Time to Cook: 3-4 Hours  Ingredients: 1/2 cup of milk 1 1/3 cup of salsa 3 (8 oz.) pkgs. of cubed cream or Neufchatel cheese 2 (8 oz.) pkgs. of flaked imitation crabmeat 1 cup thinly sliced green onions 1 (4 oz.) can of chopped green chiles Directions: Spray slow cooker with cooking spray. Combine milk and salsa in crockpot. Stir in cream cheese, crabmeat, scallions, and chiles. Cover and cook on low 3-4 hours, stirring every 30 minutes. Serve with crackers or bread. Notes: Remember to stir every 30-45 minutes.  09/15/2024

Inspired by Bill Salvatore - East Valley  and his weekly zoo posts, we finally (me and Colleen) made it back to the oldest zoo in the nation.  The Philadelphia Zoo turned 150 this July.  This time, we took our grandson, Ollie.  It was a fun day1.While I love most of the animals,  the big cats, namely, the TIGERS are my favorite.  I think they are truly beautiful and magnificent.   While behind a glass panel, a tiger walked inches away from me.  It made my day.   I had not been there in likely over a decade.  I will not repeat that.  While my bad hip does not allow me to walk the entire zoo, I was able to rent a scooter, which worked out fabulously.   It made getting around very enjoyable and a breeze.   I thought I was going to be embarrassed to be on that.  But then I figured, what the... 09/16/2024
