Sandy, UT Real Estate News

By Larry O'Sullivan
Come to Sandy UT Over the 30 days of September, and at other times throughout the previous year. I have provided you with copious detail to educate you on the real Sandy UT. Rather than Sandy being a dot on a map of a Mountain State, you may have become familiar with its landscape, its people and some of its purpose. Sandy is a stand alone place offering peaceful living in an area of great potential. Modern city living is combined with space to spread and grow. Living here, we have it all. You may consider me parochial and biased. I probably am. This doesn't prevent you from visiting to confirm the substace of my detail about Sandy UT  and its surrounds. This invitation is not without its reward.I have secured you accommodation for your visit at a modest, local hotel at Larry's Mates Ra...

A week into Fall in Sandy UT Seven days of excessive warmth, and one might expect to see a delay in autumnal signs. Nature appears to be running to a clock rather than a weather map. The mountains of the Wasatch Front (remember from earlier instruction: the big mountains are to the east) are tinged with red. A landscape artist might resort to a pencil for rendition of the red, and in a few places a fine brush ~ but the changes are there. Soon it will be worth the glory of a trip up the canyons (this weekend is probably ideal) to observe the brilliance of the autumn colors in rugged settings. Meanwhile in Historic Sandy neighborhood of Sandy UT our grapes are ripening apace. They usually arrive after the first frosts but this time have ripened well in sustained warmth. Concords and Thomp...

Intermountain Corridor UT to Yellowstone Seismic Activity Yet another quiet week in earth moving activity in the Intermountain Corridor. The map shows 21 earthquakes for the week from Southern Utah to north of Yellowstone. Most of the events were between 1.5 and 2.0 ~ in the micro category. Over the last month, activity has been relatively slight. I live at approximately the cross-over of the X drawn corner to corner on the map, in Sandy UT. Events occur to the north and to the south at varying distances. Each week the pattern changes, suggesting that events might occur anywhere in my observed area. This week, there is little indication that anyone reported that they felt any of the activity. The map represents my area of interest for my hobby of observing seismic activity.  As always ...

Families assemble in Sandy UT Monday evening in Sandy UT (in fact all over Utah) is fondly known by the majority of Utahns as Family Home Evening, a,without exception, gathering of the whole family for reflection, food, fun and games. In my local area, my neighbors who are my age, recall family complements of eight children as being "average". In some cases they stopped counting at eight. With the larger families with older children, parking at the family home could become quite competitive, one car each (including Mom's) and a truck or two for general use, not even bothering with commercial vehicles that might be thrown into the mix. Boats, trailers RVs etc fit in there somewhere. Since my wife and I are in the youth of old age, with family spread over two continents, we treat most Mon...

An afternoon at the Southtowne Expo Center, Sandy UT. Crossroads of the West Gun Show In perfect weather, I made the trip overland in my three wheel scooter (a Rascal even) rather than take my van and spend more time searching for parking. It's only about a mile anyway. So my top speed works out at 5mph ~ perhaps downhill with the wind behind me. I choose the dying hours of the Show as the press of the crowd is less, and I can get to see what I need to. The 2nd amendment is alive and well in Utah (after all it is the home of Browning). Product was walking out the door. I was after 9mm bulk ammo, so I made it my first priority ~ an easy fix. Could I be tempted with other hardware, a change in caliber perhaps? Tempted definitely, but swayed no. I would stay with my chosen caliber for many...

News Flash: Sandy UT proves to be a safe place to live. Last evening saw the return of a selection of space junk. After a fiery entry and a breakup into smaller pieces to ensure a shotgun effect the return of the debris proved to be a fizzer. It missed us completely, all our citizenry, property and position were entirely untouched. Local radio had reduced the odds of any specific person being hit from 1:21 trillion (haven't we heard of numbers of such magnitude in other fields recently) to 1:3000 of anyone getting hit. Morning radio had the debris as being back but missing. So far there had been no complaints... On July 11, 1979 Skylab crashed back to earth in a remote part of Western Australia (with great media build up). Had it landed in certain parts of Sydney, it would have been up...

Sandy UT has its own magic For a lot of this month (and before) I have been blogging on aspects of Sandy and its place in Utah. you have been introduced to civic happenings and a little of history of the place. I live in Sandy (Historic Sandy is my neighborhood, a place of stories and beauty), great by choice or happenstance. I enjoy every bit of it. I can tell you ever increasing things about Sandy; that would make you an armchair authority in time. It's now your turn to plan your visit. You need to be here, to experience the magic. Come now to see colors change, in the city and in the canyons of the Wasatch Front. (You remember from earlier instruction "big mountains on the east side") Come a little later for the snow mantle. Be here at Christmas for the fairyland of lights and the m...

                                    Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy UT 9266 S State St, SANDY UT, 84070 Rio Tinto Stadium is the home of Real (Ree - ahl) Salt Lake, a Major League Soccer Club. The Stadium is described as a state of the art sports and entertainment facility. It was designed as a soccer-specific stadium, opened 10/09/08. It holds 20,008, all with excellent views of the pitch. I live less than a half mile from the Stadium. On nights when Real Salt Lake is playing, traffic takes on peak aspects. Delighted fans surge from the Historic Sandy Trax station. and sidewalks become a sea of supporters' jerseys and scarves. Fans come from surrounding States, often staying overnight. Last Saturday about fifty visitors from St Petersburg, Russia, enjoyed a win by their team, Real Salt Lak...

Sudden weather change in Sandy UT How quickly the weather can change as we approach Fall. After so many blistering hot days, it is hard to believe that change might ever come. Following a morning of sunshine, we received a hint of rain (Oh well, 15 drops to the acre again...) and an opening of the skies. But see, the mountains are shrouded in cloud, giving the Valley the appearance of having its sentinels stretch to the heavens, and definitely a cool change. A rolling thunder and enough rain to need wipers...occasionally.  And then a darkness requiring headlights at 4pm. Enough dark to slow the evening commute and elicit several accidents. Police vehicle lights were especially evident in the gathering gloom. Who knows, but there is still time left for a complete disappearance of cloud, ...

Why Use a Real Estate Agent?  Its been written a thousand times but sellers and buyers really benefit from representation.  For the sake of simplicity I am going to gear this towards buyers.  As more and more buyers depend on the internet as their means for an education their feelings towards buyers agency have started to shift.  There has always been an underground feeling of "you'll save money not using an agent," which is simply not true.  Please speak to your buyers agent for specifics on how buyer agency works in your area.    What is forgotten is that there is a lot more to a buyers agents job than just opening doors. We have a  fiduciary duty to help you achieve your goals and our code of ethics that we stand by.  Due diligence is key and the list of steps we take to ensure you h...

  Effects of Summer Day heat tempering, vehicular relief, cooler nights, not as much dust in the breeze; all signs of approaching Fall. Do I detect more energy? Or is it that the days are shorter? Tell me roadworks are becoming fewer This has been my sixth summer in Sandy UT, my home for my Great American Adventure. I have acclimated to dry heat at altitude, and like a tree, addied another ring to my weathered appearance. Our warm, very dry summer will slide into a pleasant cool. Fall will come with its brilliant colors and the gradual disappearance of leaves (from the trees at least, if not only to become ground piles to chase with rakes and blowers.) Home garden harvest is at its peak - not so much from vine crops this year ~ but we have plenty of tomatoes (more than enough, thanks)....

                                    Last day of this season - Utah Healing Field Under warm sunshine, with hints of approaching Fall, the 3000 flags of the Utah Healing Field have stood since 9/08. This is their last day of this season, opposite the Sandy (UT) City Hall on 10000 S. At times the flags were still, individual sentinels. At others, in gentle breezes, they took on a life of their own, producing a waving sea of patriotic color suggesting unity of purpose, and strength from adversity. Either in stillness or vigorous motion, the 10th Anniversary Utah Healing Field has left feelings of strong emotion and involvement in all who have seen it. They have come in droves: babies, school children and adults of all years, the well and the infirm, Americans and foreign visitors. The fla...

                                  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Children of Sandy UT The Utah Healing Field, located at 10000 S Centennial Pkwy Sandy UT presents an opportunity for local children to learn the powerful lessons of Sacrifice, Patriotism and Citizenship. The children I saw at the Healing Field  yesterday would have been born post 9/11. Their interest went beyond mere curiosity, supported by intelligent questions that would leave the most mature struggling to provide meaningful answers. I was impressed by their serious search for reasons for an attack on their freedom, even before their birth. Surrounded by more than 3,000 flags, each bearing the details of a victim of 9/11, these children  of Sandy UT absorbed their lessons well. I found interaction with these children, so incredibl...
                                    Healing Field, Sandy UT Every year since 2002, Colonial Flag Foundation has created a Healing Field across from the Sandy City Hall. The Healing Field with its 3,000 flags marks the anniversary of 9/11/2001. Each of the flags (mostly US with two rows of foreign flags) with its attached name and details reminds us that the atrocity that is 911, was an attack on the world. I was particularly impressed by the youth of the victims. A lot of the cards I read were for 20 -25 year olds. Visitors to the Healing Field today included groups of school children with their teachers. I was moved by the wonderful behavior of the children and for their respect for the occasion of their visit. It you are in Sandy before 09/13 be sure to visit The Healing Field 10000 ...
Sunday Hike over Labor Day Weekend.  I was going a little stir crazy and needed to stop working on my to-do's around the house and get outside and enjoy this beautiful weekend.  I gathered up my kids and my sons friend and off we went.  This time we drove a short distance to a trail head about 10 minutes from our house in Sandy, UT.  This time it was the Rocky Mouth Trail.  It was a great hike and I'm so grateful we went.
