Good morning Conrad.  Guns, don't own one but I would step into my home with caution....  you just never know.

I agree that 38% is low. 

Well I took a SWAG at 35% and came in very close!

As you used to be able to buy a rifle without registering it has to be higher.

I would say it is higher. Ask any parent who has taken a child to the doctor in the last couple of years and the doc asks if there is a gun in the home?

I would wonder at the source of this "38%", or really the results of any survey claiming to represent results across a whole nation. I know for sure that I, and others in my household, haven't been polled about it. I also know that none of my close friends are NOT gun owners. Most own more than one. So I'm with all that say "much higher". 

Conrad Allen I am sure most rural area families do carry gun -  and I really did not expect this to be so high....

You know I have one. I'm also thinking of getting another one. 

I am surprised that it is not at least 90, everyone I know owns many of them.

Must have surveyed California!  My guess is that the number is much, much higher but in this anti-gun climate people don't want to say yes.

I have several guns registered to me, but I'd answer "No" to a survey.  Can never know who is conducting the call and what their agenda really is.

I agree it is much higher and probably over 50%.

I'll bet that number is much higher too.... scary....

Depends on your local...In Minnesota where hunting is high in tradition I would bet it to be closer to 60%

Conrad Allen I agree, I'm sure it is a lot higher. More gun violence in my area. A rookie police officer got shot and killed on her first day on the job when responding to a domestic dispute. Two other officers were also wounded.

I had no idea. However, many guns are not registered.

So, the actual percentage is a little higher.  I wonder what the average amount of guns per owner is?

Varies by State and county, but I can see a huge % of condo and townhouse owners not owning guns, so 38% seems accurate.

I agree that this is probably inaccurately low.  

Most home in Missouri own a gun.  It is different here than in most states that I have experienced.  Most homes have a number of guns.

Why is it "amazing" that 38% of American households own guns? I would think that its much more than that. Im in N.J. and its pretty hard to get a gun permit here but im sure more than 38% of the households here have guns legally or illegally. States like Texas, Georgia and Florida probably have much more.
