I have fired both buyer and seller clients.  I don't need business that is detrimental to my business. Look at how much some people are willing to pay to get out of a bad marriage, so getting out of real estate listing or buyer agency contract is much cheaper and faster. I learned years ago that after closing a home with a negative client, delete them from your follow up campaings because they might refer you to more negative clients like themselves.  Focus on the positves in your life and you won't ever need to buy Prozac.

I have only fired a client once and it was because the client had such high expectations for individual attention and once I realized that he has never been happy with any Realtor he has worked with, his 2 to 3 calls a day demanding my attention and explanation of what I'm doing and how I'm going to get his house sold, and checking up on every single website and having "his recommendations" of how I should change this or that ... I finally decided it was not worth it.  I offer the same high quality services to everyone of my clients and decided it was time to cut him loose to find another agent who maybe had nothing to do but take care of one client who was constantly in need of attention and hand-holding.  Letting go was the best thing I could do.  Okay .... I did it!  Feels better now!  Thanks for letting me vent.

I almost had a client I was ready to sign paperwork but didn't like that he wanted to cut my commission if an agent from my company sold his property. I wrote a post with all the details and it made me feel better. I will publish it tomorrow.

I refused to renew a couple of listings years ago because it just was not going well, but ever since I teamed up with another agent, we have not had this problem because between the two of us, we find at least one of us works well with the client, no matter how difficult.  Sometimes it's just not a good fit.   I won't continue in a relationship if I feel the negative energy is affecting my ability to do a good job, but I have not faced that in years.

I had to fire clients because they didn't listen to me.  After several failed attempts at purchasing a home, I explained we needed to reply to the bank's counteroffer within 2 hrs.  The buyers said they needed until the weekend to see the house one more time.  (they had seen it twice before making offer)  When they didn't get the house, they blamed me because of it.  We separated ways and I didn't look back.

If they are dishonest; if they don't do what they need to do in order to get their home shown and sold. If they treat me with a lack of respect. It's one of the hardest lessons for a commission-based professtional to learn--how to fire a client. But boy oh boy is it a good thing to know how to do! We have enought stress in our business, fire them and move on to people who you like to work with.

When they consistently don't listen to what you are sharing with them. I have never fired a client, but I have set boundaries with some when they are not ready to move.

When you see a disjoint somewhere in the transaction.  I recently felt my knowledge no longer mattered, and had to refer her to another agent.   It worked for everyone.

I worked with a buyer for 3 years and over that time she constantly cancelled appointment at the last minute saying she had to work . She forgot to call and cancel a couple of times . I had to fire her.

Both buyers and seller will be fired if they don't live in the real world.

I don't mind if they visit the dark side and see z's guestimate or watch some unreal TV, however, when they quote fabrication as a directive towards me, it is time to part ways.

Those who finish the transaction with me supplement their observation with, "I know all that stuff is fake."  We laugh and get down to business.

Most disharmony between buyers, sellers and their agent is the result of other agents meddling.  "If only you had called me. I would have reduced my rate or given you a rebate, walked your dog, washed the dishes and picked up the poo at 5pm every eve."

At this moment an owner with whom I have worked before, has a brother in a distant state who "knows" an agent in this area. The brother states, 'My friend will reduce compensation and pay brother a referral fee if you choose the friend instead of Annette." Those in the business know there is no relationship between the brother and the friend at all.

Have you ever meddedl in another's affair simply for a referral fee?
