Originally trained as a commercial artist, I earned a Bachelor of Architecture from Louisiana State University in 1982. After living and working for 2 1/2 years in Baton Rouge and New Orleans, I returned to Birmingham, Alabama where I worked as an architect for two large corporations: Rust Engineering and Gresham, Smith and Partners. At GSP, I founded the Design for Aging Division where I developed an appreciation for the physical needs of people as they age. This gives me an advantage when a client is requesting a custom home or renovation where they can live comfortably as their physical abilities decline (age in place).
I have always been keenly interested in the concept of "green building" - long before it was popular. My thesis project at LSU was on natural daylighting - now recognized as a cornerstone of energy savings and occupant health. Several of my projects have incorporated passive solar and water reclaimation features, and ALL are based on regional design strategies.
In 1996, I formed my own Architectural Firm, Tim Barron, Architect, Inc., which allowed me to give more personal attention to my clients. ALL clients have direct contact with me - from the initial meeting through completion of the project. In private practice I have designed a lot of homes - over 60 so far - and home renovations - over 100 of them. People often comment that my new homes remind them of "the Old South". Having grown up in Alabama and Louisiana - and living in southern towns like Eufaula, Opelika, Anniston, Baton Rouge and New Orleans - I suppose this is natural. It's like the Old South has seeped into my bloodstream and flows out into the homes I design.
My design philosophy is that good design makes a positive impact on both the community in which it is built and the people who use the project every day. This requires the Architect to really listen to the client in order to understand their needs and desires for the project. Then, the client's goals must be married with the site's unique features and constraints to make the project look and work as well as possible in that particular place.
Currently, I have over 30 years experience in the design, production and construction administration of architectural projects. These architectural experiences include major roles in more than three hundred projects ranging from under $30,000 to over $30 million. My projects include Assembly, Healthcare and Commercial Facilities, Design for Aging, Corporate and Professional Offices, Custom Residential Homes and Residential Renovations.
Tim Barron, Architect, Inc. was founded in 1996 to provide high quality architectural service to small and medium-sized projects. The clients for these projects are generally individuals, couples or small businesses; such clients value a more intimate relationship and desire more expressive designs. Since larger firms cannot service small projects profitably, Architects with the breadth and depth of Tim's experience are not generally available for such projects. This provides a niche that is both profitable and rewarding. Since it's inception, Tim Barron, Architect, Inc., has completed the design of nearly 300 projects, more than 200 of which have been constructed at this time.
Tim Barron is licensed in Alabama, Georgia and Louisiana. The firm offers its clients a full range of architectural services, including Site and Building Design, 3-D Visualization, Master Planning, Site Evaluation, and Construction Phase Services. Engineering services, Interior Design, and Landscape Architecture are available through a professional network of high quality firms specializing in these services.
