Allied Waste Republic Services Garbage Collection Program in Avon Lake Many people have asked how the the new blue and green garbage cans program will work in Avon Lake. Now especially since almost all of the city has the new cans now.  If you have not received the new cans yet, you will soon.  Here is how are area garbage pick up will work. Recycling and rubbish materials will be picked up on Monday each week EXCEPT when a holiday falls on the regular pick-up day. If this occurs, then recycling and rubbish materials will be collected on Tuesday. Many people ask what are the curfew for children. 14 years of age and under is 10 p.m. Hours are extended to 1 a.m. for those 17 years old.  Youngsters 15 to 1 6 years of age have to be home by 11 p.m.   Parents can understand that the idea of curfew helps maintain safer monitoring and care of our kids.  It also helps ease parents who struggle with the issue of setting times of "being home"     06/19/2013

People have asked what thw guidelines are in Avon Lake Woodlands and surrounding area for firewood storage.  Here are the city guidelines (1)     The firewood shall be neatly stacked in an orderly manner a minimum of four inches above the surrounding grade and no higher than six feet;           (2)     It shall be cut firewood not to exceed 30 inches (length) per piece;           (3)     It shall be stored at least five feet from the property line; and           (4)     It shall be stored in such a manner as not to constitute a fire hazard. 06/16/2013

Streets in the area may be scheduled for hydrant cleaning/blowout. The Avon Lake Fire Department and Avon Lake Municipal Utilities will be conducting their annual safety inspection of the city's fire hydrants from April 29 until September 30. Residents' water may become discolored during the inspection, but should clear up after 3-5 minutes of running it. (If water does not clear in that time, call ALMU 24/7 at 440-933-6226).
