This is the single most important piece of advice I can share with people facing a potential foreclosure is to be proactive. A lot of people out there get down on themselves and feel too embarrassed to ask for help. The fact of the matter is if you are proactive in the beginning, not only can you avoid foreclosure, you will be given a number of options. Whether it is assisting in refinancing, negotiating a short sale, or putting a freeze on future payments, I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how much your lender will be willing to help you.
