Believe it!  A loan program that calls for only 2% down and requires no mortgage insurance.  Loan is available anywhere in Illinois.  Is it restricted?  Of course it is.  It is limited to buyers earning 80% of the county's median income, or around $53,000 for up to a family of four. Not to tweak anyone, but there are a lot of people who put the mortgage meltdown on the backs of receipients of loans required by the Community Reinvestment Act.  That was the law that requires banks to make some loans in the MSA's in which they have deposits.  Which means that some lower earning people got to buy homes in less that upscale areas.  Imagine the nerve of congress to mandate that banks loan some of the federal guaranteed money to people who might not typically have access to decent loans. I just did an "Open House" tour around Peoria.  Please Realtors, understand the value we have here in Central Illinois. Having spent 31 years in California makes me appreciative of the housing values.  Realtors here can say with an honest heart and open eyes that it can be cheaper to own  than to rent - to say nothing of equity buildup and tax savings!  I try to keep my enthusiasm in check when working with a buyer getting a loan to buy a home for $120,000 or so with interest rates as low as they are today.  And buyers on the fence; I just want to chuck them on the shoulder and have them get moving and call a Realtor and buy a house.  There, I have had my say.  I rejoice in living in an area where housing is not a budget buster for our middle class! 08/09/2010

The City of Peoria, through its Department of Planning and Growth Management, has re-opened the Down Payment Assistance (DPA) Program as of Tuesday, January 19, 2010.  The DPA Program provides up to 20% of the purchase price of a property, with a maximum amount of $10,000, to income-eligible homeowners.  The Program is available Citywide to first-time homeowners.  Special priority and emphasis is given to the Glen Oak School Neighborhood Impact Zone for non first-time homebuyers who purchase within the Zone.   With the funds available, City staff will accept a total of 15 applications on a first come, first served basis.    Applications and Program Guidelines can be obtained from the Department of Planning and Growth Management (PGM) or at http://www.ci.peoria.il.us/planningforms.  Any ... 01/19/2010
