I always enjoyed the scenery and it really has a cozy feel to it. It’s really not so far away from other areas, so you won’t have to drive long distances to get to shopping centers, restaurants, schools and more. Middleburg is right around the corner. Fleming Island is just off of 220 or 17, depending on which way you take. Many military folks live in this area. It’s an easy jump to get to Highway 17 to go north to get to NAS JAX. It does not take long to get to St Augustine, maybe about 35-40 mins to get to downtown by taking the scenic route through the back roads of Clay County and St Johns County. Urgent dogs at Clay County Animal Shelter in Green Cove Springs Bernie Mac is in the house, well actually the shelter. He's looking for a forever home tho. He is a sweet dog, but he's getting very depressed and needs someone to step up and love him forever. Look at his face, how can you resist him?   Here is another dog who is very depressed. Photo of the week August 30, 2013 A couple of weeks ago, the photo of the week was of a sunset over the St Johns River. This week it's a sunrise over some houses in my neighborhood right behind me. This is not a recent picture, but I still remember taking it. It's a pretty awesome shot, but the real thing was even better. It makes me realize that I don't stop much to smell the roses, or look at sunsets and sunrises. Life gets busy, things have to be handled. Well, for those of us who live in the Lake Asbury area of Green Cove Springs, this here road, is a beautiful sight! Construction here is almost done. They still need to pave more, closer to the Black Creek bridge and get the lights working at CR 218 and Henley Rd. Won't be long before we don't see any more orange on Henley. Urgent dogs in danger at Clay County Animal Shelter These two dogs are in danger of being put down if they are not adopted or fostered soon. If you live in Clay County, you can foster one of these dogs and save a life. How awesome would that be!!!   Sachmoe is another dog that I haven't been lucky enough to make his acquaintance, but I have heard he is a sweet heart. It's hard to resist his face in those pictures above. You can find out more information about Sachmoe here. UPDATE: Cartman found his forever home. WOOHOO! Cartman is one who I have had a few opportunities to hang out with. He LOVES the water. He gives pretty awesome sloppy kisses. He is very affectionate. You really need to go check him out. Photo of the Week August 2 2013 Nothing like water to make a great picture. This picture is of the pond at Ronnie Van Zant Park in the Lake Asbury area of Green Cove Springs. If you have a fishing license and a kid with you, you can fish here. Years ago the catfish were huge, but seem to be smaller the past couple of years. Still a great place to come to to get into nature and away from the hustle and bustle. Great place to bring a book or to eat your lunch. If you want to get your fitness on, there are basketball, volleyball and tennis courts, plus frisbee golf. And for the little monkeys, there's a giant jungle gym, slides and swings as well. Photo of the week July 19 2013 This photo is a little different than my normal Northeast Florida landscape photos. This photo is of a doggie named Cartman. I probably don't have to tell you that he loves water. What you can't tell from the photo is that he loves to give big sloppy kisses and loves to be hugged. He's also a shelter dog at a kill shelter in Clay County. The shelter in Clay County is packed and there are alot of awesome dogs that need a family, before they are put to sleep. I love walking Cartman. He is a handful at first when you get him out of his kennel. Who wouldn't be, stuck in a tiny kennel 24/7!
