This week, I have been learning about pigs.   These three little piggies are from Kansas.  They now live at my ranch.   This was Day #1 one at home.   They were shy at first.    These little piggies are Colorado show pigs.   They are not little.  They are buff and muscular.   This snapshot taken yesterday on the first day the Colorado Junior Swine Association's Ring of Success Show.  The show was held this weekend at the El Paso County Fair Grounds in Calhan, CO.    These kids had the opportunity to show their hogs in three shows over the weekend (May 28-29).  The shows were also designed to help prepare the kids to show their hogs in the upcoming county and state fair season shows. This time last year, the wind farm in Calhan, Colorado was under construction.   The wind farm began commercial operation last October.   This wind farm is somewhat unique in that the wind turbines are located in a rural area with lots of homes in the same general vicinity.   A common concern has been that the wind turbines would hurt the rural property values of homes in Calhan.  They are large and it is impossible to NOT notice them.    Are the wind turbines hurting property values in Calhan?  Short answer - the sales data clearly says no.      I pulled sales comps from the Pikes Peak Associations of Realtor's MLS for 2014 - May 19, 2016.   The data shows that the rural real estate market in the Calhan area is doing better than last year (2015) and better than it was in 2014.    I did... 05/28/2016

The Wind Turbines of Calhan, CO – Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder How many times have you heard that “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder?”  Or how many times have you been asked, “Is the glass is half empty or half full?   It is all a matter of perspective, or so I tell myself, when it comes to the wind turbines in Calhan.  The wind turbines in Calhan are not going away, so I can choose to view them positively or negatively.    So….this year I decided that I am going to do my best to find the beauty in the wind turbines in Calhan.    My goal this year is to take a picture every day that will highlight the beauty of the wind turbines.   In doing so, I hope to convince myself that they are beautiful.    I'm so committed to this project that I've even created a wordpress blog 2016Wi... 01/05/2016
