Posts Just For You- This Week at ActiveRain April 7 to April 13, 2024  Every day there is something to learn here at ActiveRain.  With this series, I highlight posts that gave me that lightbulb moment. It could be something techie, a post about Real Estate or other professions, about a place, or a person. Or, it could be a post that made me sit up and take notice! April 7: Thomas J Nelson    Whiskey’s Wisdom: Be the BisonI did not know this about bison but it’s a good lesson for us.  April 8: Laura Baker A Visit Back HomeIt's been a while but members are always welcomed back!!! Say hello to Laura S. Baker and let's encourage her to share a few posts with us!!! Thankful and Throwback Thursdays…ActiveRain Meetups In case you weren’t aware, many of us have been actively reaching out to absent members.  This month’s April ActiveRain Reconnection Rally-Bring Back the Spark is just what we need! My first AR MeetUp in 2011 was hosted by Katerina Gasset and Nestor. Look at Tristan! He's now following in his mom's footsteps.  Seeing Patricia Kennedy , as well as comments from James Dray , Jay Markanich, and Ginny Gorman  and others is like old home week.  It reminded me of the many ActiveRain MeetUps we used to have. They were held in different areas and hosted by a member(s) in the area.    Our "Funny Hat" meetup in 2017!Eileen Burns 954.483.3912 hosted MeetUps in Broward County and made it a point to attend ones held in Palm Beach County (where I wa...

Protecting one’s data and devices on public Wi-Fi goes beyond protecting oneself on just the Wi-Fi aspect. Cyber security is holistic in its nature, meaning the devices hardware, software, and various forms of access control all need consideration.I hear all the time that criminal hackers are so “sophisticated”. I suppose they are, but what they really are is organized, and they treat fraud like a business. Do you know who’s really sophisticated? White hat hackers also known as penetration testers. These are the security experts deployed to seek out vulnerabilities in your networks and to offer recommendations to tighten them up.And for you laypersons, I’m going to let you in on a little secret that both criminal hackers, and the good guy hackers know: there are very basic, user-friendl...

In June of last year, I was diagnosed with late stage ovarian cancer. It's usually pretty nasty, and the prognosis is not exactly optimistic. The Zoom Call as presented this week by Patricia Kennedy, was a  little different as it wasn't real estate related, but the subject, as relates to better health was one that seemed to echo with those that were on the call. There is a point within a medical diagnosis where one senses the a major lifestyle change is in order.  It can be for the fear of what lies ahead or the consult of people that have faced similar that causes one to take note and reflect on what will be the new course once the serious part of the recovery. Its not my pace to tell her story, but as here path is si siilar to one the issues faced by one of our nieces, I will share a fieew bits. When it comes to cancer or any other medical issue, getting as much knowledge as possible before undertaking a course of action is pa...

Offer the gift that is priceless. When my wife and I were younger, we had an aha experience that changed the course of our lives. In our early mid-thirties, we saw numerous people we knew pass away shortly after retirement. One of my friends lived 12 days after he clocked out for the last time. So, we decided we would do the retirement trips and events in our 30s and 40s that we would have looked forward to in our retirement years. I imagine many thought we were crazy, but it was glorious. We had lots of energy and we were ready to see lots of destinations.  We traveled the world, took our sons along and saw and experienced everything we would have done in our retirement. Then, we got back to work. I started a real estate brokerage and then a second one and then expanded into multiple sta...

Roughly 24 hours from now I will walk into my Alma Mater, St Paul Public School in St Paul, Nebraska, and speak to 2 different business classes of high school students about the process of buying a home as a first time buyer. Next week I will do it with two more classes of juniors and seniors.I am somewhere between extremely excited and somewhat nervous. The excited part is par for the course for me because I used to love, for years, teaching first time buyer classes.  As my business matured I slowly moved away from doing them. The nervous part is that over the past 5 years...the market has changed and some of what I taught back then is no longer the norm.  AND I do not have many first time buyers right now.So I am reviewing and redoing a bunch of what I will have roughly 30 to 35 minute...

Monday Motivation: How to inspire the "non speaker" to speak. One of my favorite books 'Doubling Your Brain Power' address this question and I thought I would share here and see what your thoughts are.The ones who are what we call the silent ones, not just on Active Rain, but in real life. These were the advice given: 1.  Draw them out with praise.2.  Ask pointed questions3. Make comments that provoke response4. Once they start talking do not interrupt.5. Give positive feedback. This reminded me of Active Rain... there are some who fit into this category. There are others who what I call 'Hopeless" they think Active Rain is a Bulletin Board not to interact but post you listings... my take is they are missing out and I feel sorry for them.Just to be clear I am not here to lecture or help on...

I have long stated not to venture out in North Idaho without a camera.  No matter a phone camera or regular.  But some of the best shots I have gotten have been spontaneous and would not have been available minutes later. While meeting another agent at our Sandpoint Realty listing on 136 Charlie Lane - Sandpoint - Idaho 83864  I needed turn left from the paved county road to the private road leading to listing less than a mile away.  The street sign being rather unique to say the least.  Worth stopping to share.  After meeting with the buyers agent and clients, at Charlie Lane I left them to enjoy viewing the log home and property.  On leaving I saw both the deer and the turkeys within a quarter mile of the Street Sign.  Not a bad Saturday Morning drive.  Photo of the turkeys blurry.  Th...
