Today Holy Week heats up with the end of Lent and the beginning of the Triduum.Today is the day that Jesus celebrated the Passover Celebration with his disciples and thus taught us how to conduct the first Mass, and event that He requested that we continue in His memory. He began the celebration by washing His follower’s feet, a job generally left to the lowest servant, but a job that Jesus wanted to do as a symbol of service.Jesus then commanded that we go and do service to those around us following His example.I hope to see you there for the celebration of Easter and the Triduum!   Holy Week Schedule at St Josephs in Stevens PointTuesday March 22nd   5:30pm Seder Meal(Explore our Jewish roots with this traditional story, music and food, and bring a dish to pass. Easter and Holy Week 2016 at Holy Spirit Parish in Stevens Point. This is the week that we celebrate what it is all about, and I don’t mean eggs and bunnies.Starting Thursday evening we start the celebration of the Triduum, reliving a tradition that started when Jesus joined his disciples in an upper room to celebrate the Passover in a deep and special way. With a meal together, learning about service through the foot washing, learning about the Mass, and teaching them how to run the Church that He was getting ready to leave them with.It is a powerful week ending with the renewal of Easter; I highly recommend that you not miss a minute of it.     >> TRIDUUM March 24-27, 2016

Michael Koziczkowski Park Video - Stevens Point Wisconsin A friend of mine asked me to share a little information on the parks in Stevens Point a few weeks ago so this week I will be sharing a few of our gems.Stevens Point is a wonderful little city with a wealth of trees and parks, it seems that every time I turn around I discover another nice little park.A while ago I discovered Michael Koziczkowski Park and thought that it might me nice to share a little glimpse of it with you so I took out my phone and recorded a quick little tour for you to enjoy. This is a quiet and often forgotten park hidden away along the McDill pond flowage.Though Michael Koziczkowski park may be hidden away at the south side of town at the south end of Minnesota Ave and Business 51, it is named after a signifi...

Stevens Point Mural Series - Most Influential Citizens       Stevens Point's Ten Most Influential Citizens   Kelly Meredith painted the mural titled, "Stevens Point's Ten Most Influential Citizens" on the corner of Clark and   Strongs Ave. in 2008 to celebrate the City of Stevens Point's Sesquicentennial. The individuals in this mural were voted the most influential because of their contributions to the city and people of Stevens Point. The influence of these important people remains today. Their names can be found on street signs, buildings, and parks throughout Stevens Point.     1. Meade Park, Fun for All on the West Side of Stevens Point  Great view of the Wisconsin River, Riverside Park and Downtown.  One of my son Josh's favorite parks due to the top class nine hole disc golf course.  Also a favorite of parents with small children due to the Deluxe Playground area in this park.  Bob, Josh and Tramp enjoying a litttle spring time disc golf action combined with biking.     This park also adjoins the famous Stevens Point Green Circle Trail, along the west side loop.  There are many more attractions here including a ball field and tennis courts.  As a bonus, if you would like to live near this fine park, it is only about a block away from our nice Cottage Style home on Pearl St.    Sally Crane showing some premo disc golfing skills!   The new playground area in Mea...

2016 Books from the Heart, Helping more than just Children I received this letter a while back, along with the other business owners in our town, from a very special person at our local school and thought that I would pass it on for others to help out too. Contributing to education is never a bad idea, well educated people become successful citizens later, and the cycle keeps growing.  This is why I never balk at the huge amount of property taxes that I pay each year that goes to several school districts that my children have never even gone to. I find it strange that so many seemingly intelligent people fight so hard to cut funding to schools using arguments such as "my children went to private school, why should I pay for the public schools", or one of several similar selfish narrow m...

741 Bliss Ave, Popular Home with Large Yard Next to the Dog Park   This lovely home at the corner of Bliss Avenue and Wood St has been very popular with a bidding war on the day we closed on it and tenants who have kept renewing their lease since then. Regretfully for us the tenants are now graduating and are heading for other areas of the country so this home will be available later this summer. A few of the reasons why the current tenants love this home include: Beautiful kitchen. Fairly new construction. Great location in quiet neighborhood near the dog park Deck overlooking large backyard. Full basement with workshop, rec room, and laundry room. Two bedrooms, both with eastern exposure for morning sunshine. Spacious sunny living room. More than ample parking. Large yard with room f...

Welcome Back 2015 UWSP Students - Inspiration at the Wisconsin Forestry Hall of Fame   The Forestry Hall of Fame is a pleasant place to stop for a rest or a place to visit with a friend while traveling through the College of Natural Resources at UWSP.     I like stopping by here to read a little about the movers and shakers of the past.  Over the years I have had the opportunity to benefit from the forests and companies that these great men have started and I am happy to see them honored here at such a fine College of Natural Resources.     I hope that by the end of my career that I will have accomplished enough to justify putting my plaque on the wall here.                   More Welcome Back Uwsp Tour Posts  Welcome Back 2015 UWSP Students –Take a hike down to Belts 08/29/2015 7 Welco...

Welcome Back UWSP Students 2015- Old Main, a bit of Harvard in Wisconsin  Old main is the oldest building on campus and always reminds me of our roots dating back nearly 120 years to when Stevens Point was selected as a Normal school or teaching college.  Old main reminds me of the Harvard campus with old buildings that are hard to photograph due to a plentitude of large dense trees.  These trees came in handy 30+ years ago when I had Dendrology class at UWSP and many of the trees that we had to identify from across the nation were only found on the lawn in front of this building.  Now these trees enhance the beauty of this fine old building which is now used as the executive office building for folks like the Chancellor.More Welcome Back Uwsp Tour Posts  Welcome Back 2015 UWSP Students...

Welcome Back UWSP Students 2015 - The LRC aka the Library  This is the place that all serious students should be familiar with.  When I first arrived at UWSP over 30 years ago my favorite place here was the natural history museum on the ground floor.  I soon discovered that my grades were to survive I would need to use this place as a way to hide from my friends and the distractions that kept me from studying before the big exams.  My best study place was a private study room on the fifth floor which was private for a while until a few of my friends discovered where I was hiding and they came here to study too, luckily visiting was limited by noise rules in the library.  More Welcome Back Uwsp Tour Posts  Welcome Back 2015 UWSP Students –Take a hike down to Belts 08/29/2015 7 Welcome Ba...

Welcome Back UWSP Students 2015 - the DUC  When I was at UWSP this was known as the UC or University center, but more recently somebody thought it would be a good idea to put a very attractive addition on the front with several stores and of course let the current students pay a pile of extra cash.  Along with this new addition, came a new name, it is now known as the Lee Sherman Dreyfuss University Center, at first this was shortened to the LSDUC, but someone thought that it might look a little strange to have LSD in the name of the new addition so it was shortened a little more to the DUC or "duck", which is an ok name for a university center with so many wildlife majors around.  This is a great place to spend some time, great for meetings, relaxing, eating lunch, having coffee and so...

Welcome Back UWSP Students- a Wealth of Art on campus 2015  Like many Universities, UWSP has a wealth of art.  Today I mainly took pictures of some of the outdoor art.  You can find art in several buildings including the College of Fine arts, the Library, and the University Center.  You can also find it scattered around campus along the sidewalks and on the side of the CNR building just north of the sundial.  Some of this outdoor art is spectacular and some of is less about art and more about p.t. Barnum salesmanship (a sucker born every day) (like those chunks of rusty iron outside of the library).  This one could be a case of good salesmanship in that it is basically a big rock on a pile of dirt, but something about it strikes me in a good way, maybe it is all the foliage planted arou...
