If you were to ask me what my favorite lake is in Waukesha County I would tell you, without giving it a second thought, it’s NAGAWICKA LAKE.  Nagawicka Lake lies within the boundaries of the City of Delafield and the Village of Nashotah in Waukesha County. Nagawicka Lake is located close to a major express way (I94)and other major roads (Hwy 16, HWY 83, HWY 67) so it is not difficult to travel to Lake Nagawicka. Nagawicka means "there is sand”, the reason this name was chosen can still be seen in the excellent swimming areas on Nagawicka Lake today. There are sandbars to the west of St. John's Island and along the western shoreline of the lake that make for great swimming spots. It a common sight all summer long to see boat tie ups at the sandbar locations with splashing kids, floating ...

The many lakes in Waukesha County gives you the chance to get away from it all.  Once known as the Saratoga of the west, Waukesha County was a popular resort destination. The area still retains this idyllic feel as it looks out over the pristine lakes of Wisconsin, some of which are: Pewaukee Lake, Upper and Lower Nemahbin, Lake Nagawicka, Beaver Lake, Pine Lake, Upper and Lower Nashotah Lake, Oconomowoc Lake, Lac la Belle, Silver Lake, Okauchee Lake, North Lake, and Moose Lake. Waukesha County's LAKE COUNTRY contains all or portions of 33 major lakes with a combined surface area of approximately 14,000 acres, or 21.9 square miles, or about 3.8% of the total area of the County. (This represents about 38% of the combined surface area of the 101 major lakes in the seven-county Southeaster...

There are many reasons people fall in love with Wisconsin lakes. Spectacular sunrises and sunsets, good fishing, a tour of the water in a favorite boat, a beautiful backdrop to enjoy scenery and explore nature, a place to reflect or just get away from it all. With more than 15,000 Wisconsin lakes, there are many types and sizes of lakes all with their own unique character and natural assets. Ranking the Lakes in Wisconsin The clearest lakes aren’t necessarily the healthiest.  An extremely clear lake may lack the plant life needed to support a robust fishery. Ecologically balanced lakes are more important: those with a healthy mix of native plants, forested shores, minimum runoff coming into them, a good fishery and diverse wildlife.  Dodge County’s Fox Lake is the most challenged lake i...
