For all of you who needed the reminder the Puyallup Fair started today. There was the opening kick off parade down Meridian today. The Tacoma News Tribune has a blog post that has some great photos. You can visit the blog here. I was not able to get out of the office to see the festivities I will say however, that traffic in front of our office is up by a huge percentage. The text below is copied directly from the Puyallup Fair Website. I find the stats to be interesting. The Puyallup Fair (officially known as the Western Washington Fair) is the largest single attraction held annually in the state of Washington.  The Fair continually ranks in the top ten largest fairs in the world.  The Western Washington Fair Association hosts two annual events, the 17-day Puyallup Fair every Septembe...

Being a Real Estate agent, I'm required to be "on" all the time.  That is, clothes clean and neatly pressed, hair tidy and groomed, and car clean.  All this because you never know when someone might call you and say "I'd like to see a home in 15 minutes if you're available".  So that being said, I've discovered a delightful new car wash place on South Hill.  OK, I think technically it's in Graham, but it's still a GREAT place.Head south on Meridian past 176th.  When you come down and back up through the dip in the road, you'll find yourself at 187th St.  On the South West corner, you'll see a coffee stand (WHAT?! A coffee stand on the corner in the northwest!?  Unheard of!) and just behind that, you'll find "Just Wash It".  I've been watching them build this complex for a bit over a yea...

One of the primary concerns of home buyers today is what kind of education their children will receive. Working in the Puyallup Real Estate market, I'm proud to say that the Puyallup school district is consistently ranked as one of the top districts in the state. Usually coming in second only to the Bellevue school district. When I was in High School, my school (Curtis Sr. High School in University Place) received the honor as being one of the nations best schools. It was a sense of pride among us Vikings in attendance at the time. Recently, Newsweek has named another local high school, Emerald Ridge High School in Puyallup as one of the nations best. Congratulations to all the Jaguars for a job well done! In addition to receiving honors as one of the nation's best, Emerald ridge athlet...

Or rather I should post this title as "John's bank account will never be the same".  While I'm not a big fan of Sushi (California rolls are about all I can do) my wife Teri LOVES it, the more the better.  So I'm a bit distressed that a sushi joint has opened so close to home.  However, that being said we went there for dinner last night before our movie and we had a delightful time.Where you might ask?  Happy Bento is the place.  It is located on the south side of the new Wal-Mart on South Hill in the Wal-Mart parking lot.  Right next to the new Forza coffee joint. When we walked in, we were greeted promptly and escorted to our table and given menus.  At first I thought it was just another Teriyaki place until I opened the menu.  "UH-OH" I exclaimed. "What?!" Teri asked.  I said, "turn t...

If you live anywhere near south hill, and particularly if you regularly travel south of 144th and Meridian, you start to wonder what kind of people live "out there".  There's not a whole lot of shopping per se and the traffic on Meridian at times is enough to drive you straight to the nut shack.  Personally I live in Sunrise, the planned community east of Thun Field on South Hill.  And I deal with Meridian and the lack of amenities every day of my life.  Don't get me wrong, the new Applebees and Wal-Mart and that whole complex has been a nice addition.  In fact my wife and I enjoyed a lovely dinner at Applebees just last night.  But to do any shopping, I mean REAL shopping, you have to head north towards the South Hill mall and the wide variety of options available there.Well it looks l...

It was a beautiful Saturday morning June 2nd at the Puyallup's River Walk Trail ribbon cutting ceremony. The trail runs along Puyallup River from the truck scales on River Road to Mama Stortini's Ristorante on Main Avenue. Only a little more than half of the trail is paved right now, so users have to use sidewalks in some areas. There is also a new parking area in process under the 512 overpass. Ralph Dannenberg, director of Puyallup Parks and Recreation, says the trail could be connected to the Foothills Trail as soon as 2008.Below are some pictures from Saturday morning. Come visit the trail and take advantage of all the hard work and dedication.                                                            The trail was full of bikers, walkers and people jogging. This has been a long ro...

I read a lot of blogs about a lot of places in Washington, but did not see one on MY home town Puyallup, WA. Well, at least it is where I now call Home.  I am proud and happy, even thrilled, to call Puyallup 'home". Moving here from Phoenix, AZ was not only a weather shock but a culture shock as well.  But in a good way.  People looked at me in astonishment, as if I had made some monumental mistake leaving "all of that sunshine" and moving to the beautiful, diverse Pacific Northwest.  My answer to each and every one of them was that they take a trip to Phoenix, in the middle of August, and no, they could not stay inside the entire time or go from air conditioned house to air conditioned car, to air conditioned store, restaurant etc.  They had to "live and breathe" all of that wonder...
