A U.S. proposal ot ban temporarily the fishing of Bluefin Tuna was rejected at the international tuna conference in Turkey.  It seems some reports are saying that they are fishing at three times the rate that is needed to sustain the tuna.  At that rate it won't matter if they continue to fish for the tuna as there won't be any.  Basically the U.S. is trying to get some attention and hopefully build some momentum for a future. ban.

First it was no smoking and now its no trucks.  Trucks have been banned from Hampton Blvd during certain parts of the day.  This is to aid congestion for the residents of West Ghent.  It remains to be seen how much relief this will provide.  It seems like around here, if there is an open spot for a car it will be filled by a car.

First its' no cursing, blocking intersections, no feeding the birds, no watering, no smoking and now its no trees.  Many years back hundreds of volunteers planted trees along a canal by London Bridge and Lynnhaven Parkway.  The idea was to improve the water quality of the canal.  The water quality has improved but the trees are now seen as as preventing the canal's primary purpose, which is to prevent floods around Lynnhaven Mall.  Now the trees must go.  Hopefully the city and the corps will be able to come up with a viable solution and keep as many trees as possible.

I had a closing today with a gentlemen from London, England and he said he was glad he wasn't Gazumped.  I said no one sneezed.  No he said Gazumped.  We were stumped so we asked for an explanation.   Gazumping is when a buyer has an offer accepted by the seller but is then outbidded by a rival buyer before completion, resulting in the initial buyer losing the property and possibly money spent on legal fees/surveys too.Gazumping could be considered to be a loop hole in the UK property process, unless you live in Scotland where they have introduced measures to protect their property buyers. We don't do that here in Virginia but I heard somewhere that they do in Hawaii and New Jersey.I looked the term up and you can use it for other things as well.  Google it.

When working in residential resale zoning rarely ever becomes an issue short of specifying the correct zoning code on the listing form. However, in commercial real estate zoning is particularly important, localities use zoning designations to control where business can operate from based on the type or category of the business. For example, a manufacture of steel plates would be unable to conduct its business in an area with an O-1 zoning. In Virginia Beach we have many different Zoning Districts, the one district that most real estate agents are familiar with is the Residential District which is denoted as R-X and Planned Development Districts denoted as PD-XX. In addition to these residential districts we also have : Office Districts Residential DistrictsBusiness DistrictsIndustrial Dis...

The Dome at the Oceanfront has been gone quite a while and in its historic place sits two old parking lots.  The city would like to do something with the property and is looking at options.  There were soaring towers, a monorail and a Hyatt Hotel for the convention center.  For now, there are no new plans.  All the old ones went by the wayside.  City officials have visited different areas around the country looking for something and so far have spent $15,000.  Lets hope they find something soon.  A park would be a great idea but certainly not a money maker.

The town of Kempsville was established in 1783 and was the county seat of Princess Anne county from 1778 to 1823, in 1963 Princess Anne County was consolidated with the city of Virginia Beach.  Kempsville was originally known as Kemp's Landing. Colonial Governor Lord Dunmore's forces fought the Princess Anne County militia  at Kemps landing on November 14 and 15 1775 for possession of the strategically important bridge.   The militia drove Lord Dunmore's forces back to Norfolk.

Do you know where Little Creek is or what it is supposed to be?  Today it is an amphibious base, an elementary school in Norfolk and a creek that meanders through parts of Norfolk and Virginia Beach.  Originally it was the creek that through which the boaters from the Lynhaven River reached the Chesapeake Bay.  Over the course of centuries, Virginia Beach cut a channel to the bay, the Lynnhaven Inlet, developers filled in creek beds and swamp land and the city of Norfolk built dams on parts of the creek.  Thats how Lake Smith, Lake Lawson and Lake Whitehurst were born and how Norfolk provides its citizens with water.

Why would the captain of the Spirit of Nantucket deliberately run his ship aground on the Intercoastal Waterway near Pungo.  To keep it from sinking of course.  The ship was sailing from Alexandra to Charleston, SC when it started taking on water near Pungo.  The ship struck something and started taking on water.  The captain immediately took action and ran the ship aground.  There were about 66 people on board.  the Coast Guard took all the passengers to Virginia Beach where they got in a bit more sight seeing then they had anticipated.

Golden shovels is what some students were welding this week as they turned soil for Virginia Beach's' newest school.  The Renaissance Academy will be finished in about 3 years.  The site is at the corner of Witchduck and Cleveland street, the site of the now defunct all-black high school.  This 285,000 sq ft building will house all the middle and high school students who can't make in a regular classroom environment.

Does anyone know how Eureka Park gots its name?  This is a little area off of Virginia Beach Blvd adn Lynnhaven Parkway.  One local legend has it that L.H. Doyle was looking for clay deposits good enough to make make bricks out of.  It was tough going and finally he found a spot that was close to the train tracks.  When he found the deposits he yelled Eureka and the rest is history.  Mr. Doyle went on to build a brickyard and employed a lot of people in the area.  The Doyle Town section of the beach was named after him also.

If you have recently introduced wireless computing into your Virginia Beach home like I did then you may very well have introduced static to your home phone.  If you are thinking of introducing wireless into your home then your may end up with static on your home phone.  The solution is a technology called DECT 6.0.  It is a world wide standard that operates in the 1.9 Ghz range.  I know, another Ghz product.  The good thing about lower frequencies is that they operate at a longer range.  So if you have the 2.4 or the 5.8 Ghz and aren't happy with the range or the battery life these phones may be just for you.  The other plus is that since this is a standard world wide you will see more manafactures and lower prices for the phones.  Google and find out for yourselves.  You've likely hea...

I was just talking to a neighbor of mine who purchased his home a little over 2 years ago, he wanted to know how much he cold expect to get for it.  When I told him what homes in our neighborhood are selling he already knew that he wouldn't be able to get what he thought he could, but he told me that he would have any money, and would be paying to sell his house!  He has orders to move to Japan and wasn't sure what to do.  Becuase I am now offering property management I suggested that he rent his home, and that he may have some tax advantages for doing so - of course I suggested that he talk to his CPA.
