The Hollin Hall Shopping Center located on Fort Hunt Road has survived handsomely since it was built in conjunction with Hollin Hall Village in the late 1940's and early 1950's. The facade of the Safeway at the north end of the complex is typical of the architectural design of that period. Although the Fort Hunt area of Mount Vernon is not an incorporated town, the Hollin Hall Shopping Center is about as close to a "downtown" as you can get. It is two blocks long and has all of the neighborhood necessities - most of them have been there for years.
