Charlottesville greatest feature: the Downtown Pedestrian Mall Once or twice each month, I am charged with manning the shop at C’ville Arts, one of my responsibilities as a member of the artists’ cooperative.  Though it isn’t always easy to find room in my month for those long days, I’m always glad to have the obligation once I get there.  Not only do I enjoy the ambience of the gallery itself, but I love its location right at the Central Place on Charlottesville’s Downtown Pedestrian Mall. I remember when they built the pedestrian mall.  I wasn’t living here at the time, as I was still in high school in Newport News (I attended Hampton Roads Academy).  It was 1974, and my sister, Karen, had just begun her career at the University of Virginia.  She had attended the University and loved ...

I received an e-mail from a couple in the UK asking if I would look at their home for lease that is currently on the market for sale.  The sellers had used a friend of mine to rent their home in the past and she has moved to OR and gave them my name. I searched the property in our MLS and it is an older home downtown and the MLS photo is horrible.  I did a quick tax search online and found that while the listing price is $600,000, the assessor's value is $540,000 and these have been coming DOWN historically for the last several years. I sync'd my lockbox key and went to view the property this morning.  It is in a slightly deteriorating area * once for lawyers and doctors * and the local hospital that is 2 blocks from the home is about to DISAPPEAR in less than 10 months to their new cam...
