The legacy continues for Will Edwards, our youngest of three childrren. Or, another way to look at it is, his legacy begins. Our youngest child found out he was offered undergraduate admission to Virginia Tech on the eve of his 18th birthday. How fortunate is the Edwards' household? Will is the fifth member of our family to attend this great institution of higher learning (Virginia Tech) and Blacksburg is a special small town in southwestern part of the state. The Hokie Nation is a close knit family and VT is a great place to attend college. We have enjoyed the many years of going back as alumni for special events, football games, and memorable moments with our family and old friends. This slideshow video shares some of this special bond that Hokies everywhere enjoy about being part o...

Another 4/16 Day of Remembrance has come and gone, we will never forget Nicole White, and the 31 others. My daughter wrote this blog post yesterday and I felt it appropriate to repost here... living for thirty two Five years after the unimaginable tragedy of April 16th, 2007, I stand a senior in college, awaiting my graduation from the university that I call home. While I think of the thirty two lost each of the 365 days of the year, the anniversary inevitably approaches each year with the visible reminders of the lives taken from us too soon. The Day of Remembrance on campus provides an outlet for members of the community to remember and mourn the losses from this day.   "To live every day as if it had been stolen from death, that is how I would like to live. To feel the joy of life.....

Because of Tamara Dietrich's highly insensitve article last Friday, we continue to speak out about the Daily Press's unwillingness to retract the article and properly apologize for grossly misrepresenting what the Virginia Tech community is all about...   My daughter is a senior at Virginia Tech, and in 2007, she lost a friend and neighbor in the massacre of 32 VT students on that April 16th Monday morning. A week ago, a Virginia Tech police officer was gunned down during a routine traffic stop by a Radford student passing through town. Our local newspaper (with who I have just cancelled my subscription with) wrote an article last Friday that was highly insensitve and misrepresented what the Virginia Tech university stands for. Carly wrote a second lettor to the editor and her private n...

Sports Calendar for Virginia Tech Football for the Fall 2011 It's that time of year, when college football teams across the country are fine tuning their rosters, participating in scrimmages, and getting ready to kick off the college football season. It's no different in Blacksburg, Virginia for the Virginia Tech Hokies. Students are back on campus and classes started today. Fall is my favorite time of year, when the leaves turn Orange AND Maroon, which just so happens to be Virginia Tech's school colors.   Check out the football schedule sports calendar for this fall... I've written before about Virginia Tech's focus on energy research and sustainability, even going so far as to say that the university's focus on these issues is a nice example of putting their money where their mouth is, with no outside pressure.  And I believe that. And appointments such as these lead me to believe it even more.  Sure, Dr. Leo's appointment is one that is made to further the university's research advancement goals and bring in more money, but you can bet they'll be putting much of these initiatives in place right here on campus.  Kudos to Dr. Leo and Virginia Tech.  Once again, Inventing the Future.

Zach Crizer of The Collegiate Times called me early last week and asked "why do people decide to invest in college towns?"  We talked for a few minutes, and later in the week he posted "Blacksburg Real Estate Weathers Financial Storm". Thanks, Zach, for the chance to talk with you, and to be quoted in the same article as someone as well known in his field as Dr. Koebel was an honor.  He certainly described it in much more intelligent terms, but at least I didn't stutter. I appreciated the chat, Zach, call anytime.  Wow.
