Cold weather preparations in Sandy UT We made it to 40F today with a promise of 26F tonight in Sandy UT. Tomorrow promises a few degrees less. Definitely a test for winter. A time to check more substantial clothing and for special contents of my chair bag. Because I move little more than my right thumb, I do not generate enough body heat to keep me comfortable during sudden temperature plunges. My bag has space blankets and a supply of hand and body warmers. It's amazing how even one warm pocket can be quite comforting overall. Lighting is becoming more miniaturized. It is not hard to imagine me as a mobile Christmas tree. I intend to be active in all extremes. I always hope for the easiest; but plan for most difficult situations. My wife is more solicitous of my welfare, trying to get ...

The odd challenge in Sandy UT not likely to be fatal Announcement at 7am in Sandy UT: "and this is the warmest it's going to get all day..." Checked out the window to be greeted with snow flakes. Daylight Saving just ended with 2am becoming 1am, as if by msgic. Most of the clocks changed. Nobody told the cats. An earlier morning let out had involved all the doors, one by one, No one had told them either about the cold front, or the ensuing briskness greeting them outside every door.. Early morning church meeting did not fare much better. Some attendees experienced being an hour early. (The Lord must have been pleasantly surprised). The message of the miracle of the clocks had not had universal understanding. Others explaining a half hour of tardiness were without real vindication in the...

Daylight saving to end in Sandy UT, and other places too Spring forward.. Fall back was supposed to take us into a better system of time keeping. Or is it change for change sake. Have we achieved anything? It's called daylight saving. It could have been called time theft. An hour of our time stolen last spring by government edict, and now re-bestowed on us, seemingly quite arbitrarily. Anyway it ends in the morning A couple of years ago, the return of the hour in Sandy UT was tied to General Conference ~ the first weekend of October. Now it is decreed as the first Sunday in November. Sunday morning 2am becomes 1 am, when most of us are asleep. The extra month of wrong time was supposed to be of major benefit. For whom? Not a single person has been able to give me a benefit. Not even les...

Trunk or Treat in Sandy UT, another source of candy After all these years I still find the ferocity of the celebration of Halloween more than a bit strange, macarbe even. All the weird bits coming so close together. Halloween, The Day of the Dead, All Saints, All Souls. Mixtures of religion and superstition, costumes and CANDY. I believe we spend considerable time warning our children of the dangers of accepting candy from strangers, and yet at this time of the year we set  them loose to maraude neighborhoods and monster hapless people for sweet treats. And then the sugar rush... After an afternoon in the city tangled in witches, goblins, zombies, princesses, ninja and super heroes, (and let's not forget the pumpkins) it was more of a relief to observe our local children in Sandy UT enj...

A perfect Fall day for a ramble in Historic Sandy UT Some days are pure perfection. I am biased towards Historic Sandy UT. This is where I live. Some days make you glad you are alive; and we have plenty of them. We excel at perfection. A warm day. Fall colors. Leaves shimmering in their individual Autumn splendor. Some still attached, some falling, others giving a last swirl of recognition in light breezes. Sunlight bringing out the best in everything. Peaceful, unhurried surroundings. Pure bliss, so inviting of a neighborhood ramble. My power chair makes an ideal camera platform from which to record everything in digital detail. And I don't mind sharing. Don't you wish you were here? Come for a visit to Sandy UT. I might even convince you to make it your home. ps: if I had more of a po...

Home Loan Sandy Utah Mortgages near Sandy, Utah. Here's your guide to mortgages in Sandy, Utah. The most popular of all Mortgages near Sandy, Utah are Conventional Fixed Rate Mortgages. These Conventional Fixed Rate Mortgages, or FRM, provide a constant interest rate and monthly payment. Usually this loan requires a 20% down payment, but it is not always required! The life of this mortgage ranges 10-40 years. Adjustable Rate Mortgages or "ARM" (cool acronym, huh?) are ever-changing. That's why they call it an 'adjustable rate'. The interest rate you pay changes as the market changes. Your interest rate is recalculated yearly. Monthly payments also change when your interest rate does. Swat That Fly ~ the game is on My hobby of observing seismic events (earthquakes) in the Intermountain West ( Utah to Yellowstone) in weekly intervals, has me thinking again of a game my wife keeps to entertain visiting grandchildren (and herself, when the mood arises) called "Swat That Fly". "Nyah, Nyah, Ya missed me" is certainly appropriate for me in Sandy UT. Missed us but not so Park City, West Valley City (two events) and Magna, close-by Utah cities. My map provided by University of Utah Seismic Stations, just up the road at the "U", shows 60 events for the Intermountain West, this time all in the micro range (less than 3.0). These maps are updated regularly and come with other interesting data (for those who might enjoy a similar hobby). I comment on regional seismic events to in...

July is very festive in Sandy UT July is a month of strenuous celebration in Utah. Summer heat does not diminish any of it. Utah threw itself into 4th of July celebrations to celebrate the founding of this Country. Flags everywhere; gatherings in parks, and  at homes; food, lots of food; spectacular displays and beautiful fireworks that went of for hours, complete surround light and sound. If the 4th of July is a patriotic big event, a mere three weeks later Utah outdoes itself with Pioneer Day (24th July). This is the celebration of the entry of the first Mormon Pioneers into the Valley of the Great Salt Lake, the foundation of the State of Utah (named for the Ute Indians who lived here). Originally called Deseret, the Pioneers were responsible for making the desert "blossom as a rose"...

It has rained at last in Sandy UT Rain dances, supplications oft, and long suffering patience have paid dividends in Sandy UT. Some decent rain at last. Thunder, lightening, swirling breezes, drumming rain. The works... The trees are happy; the sere grasses are a little revived. Dust has been washed from foliage. Vegetable plants are a little more upward pointing, free at last from the sustained heat stress. Cleaner vehicles, tidier roads and less blowing dust. We are happy for what we have received; we are respectfully anxious for a little more ~ just to be sure. We are pleased with the evident moisture and for the comforting drop in temperatures. Pleasant relief. And as with all bestowed gifts, necessary gratitude will be evident in Sabbath Services and prayers tomorrow. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~...

Going through the motions for some rain in Sandy UT. The temperature has dropped a little, dark clouds appear, the rustle of hot breezes, dimming of light. All these few things together might signal the approach of rain. We need some; we are due some; we want some. All for a few drops before the light breaks through again. Fooled once more. At least the mountains are still dark. Perhaps a storm later. Plenty of lightening, so anything is possible. If we go through the preparations often enough, something is sure to haappen. I could resort to praying for rain. According to my father, a farmer, if I go that route, and fail to carry an umbrella, then I am a hypocrite. I always take my umbrella. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sandy UT celebrates the 4th of July with the best of them It may have been hot, a few degrees below century figures, after an early morning shower, but it is 4th of July, and who can resist an outing, especially displays by our Emergency Services - medical helicopter, fire vehicles and command vehicles. And the police dogs. What an event to watch. Eager, well trained dogs, enjoying every minute of their performance, finding drugs or ready to take down a felon (easily recognized in their padded suits with a dog attached to each arm. And of course, a return to their own air-conditioned vehicles. Sun hats and liberal sunscreen definitely the order of the day. Along with plenty of water. Prams and strollers aplenty. Bands, singing/dancing groups, vendors stalls, playground, and plenty of pr...
