I just have to write a little review for one of my favorite sweet shops - Nothing Bundt Cakes located in Sandy at 10389 S State St, Sandy, UT 84070.   If you're in the neighborhood, you absolutely MUST go visit them to get yourself a Bundt Cake... or maybe two.. you know what? You could get a dozen of buntinis...     Honestly, I think that whatever you get - you'll be amazed! The shop is lovely, clean, bright and cheerful and is filled with gorgeous little gifts and these delicious baked goods! The staff is friendly and these little cakes are amazing! (My daughter's favorite is the red velvet chocolate chip... SO GOOD!) And even better? They deliver!! Do you need to send someone a sweet gift? There's an online ordering process that makes this so easy to do - visit http://www.nothingbun...

An horse of a different temperament.. daydreaming in a warmer Sandy UT I have declared Winter over. String together enough comfortable days, along with adverse forecasts not achieved, the outdoors beckoning; then I call it Spring. My stultifying comfort zone of Winter thinking shelved for a few seasons. Time to explore my treasure called Utah. All 29 Counties await ~ and then some foreign expeditions into neighboring States. Trusty power chair and truck are always available: I search continually for still other horses to ride, my subconscious is always tasked to solve this challenge. I have explored a tracked versions of my power chair - still on the table. I look for vehicles offering hand controls, requiring less modification. An offering of High Uintas exploration using a (large) goa...

Add my detector, pan and shovel... ready for adventure around Sandy UT Winter allows for dreaming and reading and planning. What to tackle in the warmer times? One of my hobbies is looking for gold. I will settle for silver, meteorites or forgotten treasure. My early training in Archaeology included Geology and an interest in alluvial gold. Utah provides my playground - a State with a history of mineral wealth (I live a few miles from the World's largest open cut copper mine and a short distance from historic silver wealth in canyons of the Wasatch Front) with much documentation of early sites. I have used the winter months to brush up on my dowsing skills (occult to some, but quite practical in application) designed to improve my success rate. Map dowsing to start with followed by fiel...

Once upon a fluffy cloud... in Sandy UT Add white fluffies in the blue above the mountain tops and you have today in Sandy UT - absolute perfection... Light breezes,  Beautiful shirt sleeve weather. A day worth bottling. While lots of the country complains about adverse weather, and excessive snow, we have been enjoying almost balmy weather, with touches of brilliance. Recent rains and falls of snow, tidily, in the mountains have ensured adequate water supply for later months. Winter patrons well cared for by great mountain snow coverage. Altogether, it has been a winter of comfortable temperatures, with safe roads, and very idle snow plows. Who in Sandy UT might ask for more? When can we expect you? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Enjoying the Winter Sun in Sandy Utah It's winter in Sandy UT, and it's cold. You might think that, because it's 15 degrees outside. But still, it is early morning. Add a few hours and we will will reach a brilliant 35 degrees ~ positively warm. I will definitely get to shirt sleeves. May even contemplate some snow sculpture. No inversion to cause haze. Everything sharp as a tack. The mountains on both sides of the valley appear higher and closer, inviting inspection of their detail. It's Winter Sun in Sandy UT. Spectacular, enjoyable, inviting. Beautiful blue sky. Thoughts of winter toys, and adventure. Proper clothing for comfort. A great reason to visit us. An even better one for making our place in Paradise your home.

Enjoying the vagaries of weather in Sandy UT If I poke my nose outside, I can experience 20F (feels like 4F) with some snow, and it's around midnight. So why would I venture out? I can wait until tomorrow~ promised 16F high, 2F low (with a cheery feels like 4F - -2F). seems in Sandy UT we have to wait at least two days to venture above freezing. All brisk stuff. A winter snow storm advisory for Sandy UT until 6pm tomorrow. Sounds of cracking ice in driveways and on footpaths. Slips and slides for the unwary.  A look at the weather map suggests indoor activities for most of the country. Hey! Florida has not signed up for winter ~ again. Some other places that boast of being milder climes, are getting a lesson in sharing  of our normal winter weather. Stay warm - Stay safe. With hats, coa...

Holiday schedules for TRAX users in Utah While using TRAX (light rail)  to Sandy UT today, I received the following message: Thanksgiving none; Friday is Saturday; Saturday is Saturday; Sunday is Sunday. A perfectly clear message which for non-Utahns, outsiders and sundry visitors translates: If you're looking for a train tomorrow, it'll be a long wait, there are none. On Friday if you have to work, don't count on the early trains, they are using the Saturday schedule which has a loger time betwwen trains. All trains are low level (the differently abled get on at platform level, on any carriage where there are blue buttons near a door). Saturday is using the Saturday schedule (other instructions for the revised Friday schedule apply). The Sunday schedule applies on Sunday. Told you it w...

Thankful so much for our life in Sandy UT Just shy of nine years ago Christie Louise and I were married in Sandy UT. How two people of mature years from different hemispheres could meet and wed is a story for another day. Suffice, at present, to say that life is a continuing adventure. And it continues everyday in our home in Sandy UT. Christie introduced me to this Holiday called Thanksgiving, imparting to me her traditions and inviting me to slow down, be grateful and give thanks. So, in later years, I find my gratitude for life is a never ending thing bolstered by Christie's selfless assistance, care and attention. Because of distances, we will spend Thanksgiving (I am sure we/I have already started on the pies), alone (together), but not really... There's CHECK IN. Family from all o...

Thoughts on a wonderful day in Utah It's one of those days,in Sandy UT, that, in retrospect, need bottling (I think the locals might choose "canning" ~ although "canning" in glass rubs me funny).   Local language aside, it's been a beaut day. A great Sabbath, a day of rest. Perfection in weather: cold(ish) day, with light blue sky. Weakish sun. Absolute clarity to view the snow cover on our mountains. Nary a breeze. No traffic or noise. No hustle. Inviting peace. For those of us who make the Salt Lake Valley of Utah our home, we are treated to many such days, some similar, some different, worth bottling. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Thoughts on end of year farming in Sandy UT                                                                       Does the end of the year harden door responses or get people in the mood for more social interaction? We have had the recent wonder of Halloween and are not yet expecting Carolers ~ but who can really tell since the social calendars are on countdown, shops are rushing up decorations, sales are on. Leaves are down, City clean up is over, perhaps time to retreat indoors with an unattended front door. I still have traction (snow has stayed away, so far). Maybe time to squeeze in another farming run in Historic Sandy UT I live in Historic Sandy and have paid attention to regular farming activity right here. "Who do you know...?" etc. Repeated visits over the expended part of the...

Slow cooking - a great fit in Sandy UT I discovered Crock Pot cooking in my Aussie bachelor days. Easy meal preparation, and always way too much. Meal size portions into baggies, flatten and stack in freezer. After a few different recipes, the variety in the freezer could satisfy my requirements, especially so if I remembered to label the packages -otherwise "meal surprise" Colder weather, and the production of comfort food make slow cookers ideal for my lifestyle in Sandy UT. Besides food is always a good conversation starter. Slow cooker recipe books are legion. They are everywhere, for the faint-hearted and the unadventurous. With a slow cooker it is very hard to have a flop. My basics:  meat of choice, chunks of fresh vegetables, flavoring and water. It worked well with beef, lamb, ...

Hot or cold, Utah is still a jewel! Definitely a seasonal decline in temperatures in Sandy UT. It is Fall after all. Leaves have changed color, fallen. Brisk breezes have given mine to my neighbors', and I have been passed along more from trees and lawns unknown. Usual surprises of drifting plastic shopping bags. (Where do they escape from?) I have just come in from 35F at 6pm. To make me feel better, it is supposed to feel like 28F (as if I'm supposed to have calibrated skin with appropriate sensors.) According to the Weather App on my tablet, the next time I am likely to see sunshine is Monday when it might get to 45F (feels like?? - who knows), and by Thanksgiving we may even get to 47F. I had become conscious of our furnace coming on and off from different sounds of the thermostat. ...

The differently abled niche in real estate in Sandy UT                                                                       I am in a position to offer expert advice to differently abled home buyers in the Salt Lake Valley UT. I have skin in the game.   Being a double above knee amputee, to my own home in Sandy UT I have installed a lift in the garage to get me to house height, a stair glide to get me to my basement (walkout with stairs) office and work rooms and storage, and have modified my bathroom. Outdoors I use a power chair in combination with my van or the nearby TRAX (light rail). Indoors I have standard wheel chairs, one up one down. My choice of home, its location and modifications, suits me. I choose to be very active. I am always on the lookout for truly accessible homes.N...

At odds with my favorite appliance in Sandy UT Having done business from a sitting position for the last ten years, I have come to rely heavily on my power chair. Regardless of manufacturer specifications, with me, it has only two speeds ~ flat out and stop. With recent maintenance including a new controller (jot stick assembly, power buttons etc) my chair added a new personality trait: unpredictable. You see, the new ON/OFF has a hair trigger. I control the joy stick with the web between my right thumb and forefinger with other fingers resting lightly on the controller shroud. But yesterday had me in gloves because of reduced temperatures... So down the slope, carrying a large box and a shopping bag, flat out, home in view, and my fourth and fifth fingers wandered over said button. Cha...

My labor of love nears completion in Sandy UT If you have followed my posts over the last several years, you may have noticed that I favor collages to illustrate my posts. Collages are basically groups of photos often indicating a theme. Mostly the collages suggest themselve; sometimes they are happenstance. As well as for posts, I use my favorites for postcards, two and three fold cards used in my advertising. I have developed an attachment for  Picasa 3 as a photo editor. As well as easily producing collages very consistently, it is a free program ~very easy to use, and allowing surprising creativity. After several years of producing collages, mostly about activities in Utah and specifically about Sandy UT (hey! I live here), I now have 160 collages being repurposed into a picture e-b...
