Thaynes Canyon runs up from just beyond Park Avenue on the right hand side as you enter Park City all the way up to the top of Scott's Bowl at Park City Mountain Resort.  The north facing side of Thaynes Canyon serves as the base for a number of lifts and runs at Park City resort.  The mouth of the canyon is home to an upscale development of mostly primary homes about 5 minutes from downtown Park City. There is a tremendous amount of history here with old mining buildings sprinkled among the bottom of the ski runs in the canyon.  There are many old mine shafts in the area, most of them sealed up, but it is wise to be careful when hiking, biking or skiing in any of these old mining towns.  I had a friend, a ski instructor at Solitude, who skied right over and of course, then into, an ope... 03/23/2013
