It seems that the folks in Murphy,Texas have gravitated to the newest sub shop in town. By means of an unofficial pole conducted on my facebook business page, Murphy Texas It’s a Good Life, there are more votes for Firehouse Subs located on FM544 than Subway. I can understand the appeal of the subs as each one is toasted bringing out the unique flavors of the menu items. I particularly like the Club sub and would cast my vote for that one any day. Another personal appeal of Firehouse Subs is that they gave you a free sub sandwich on your birthday. Now isn't that special! If you would like to know more about the growing community of Murphy, Texas please take a moment to “like” my page on facebook.

The City of Murphy finished out the year of 2010 with 77 single family homes available for sale and that count does not include homes for sale by owners. Another 11 homes were under contract with 7 of the homes in a sales pending status. There was a total of 13 homes SOLD in Murphy during December. This past Wednesday I had the opportunity to attend a Realtor luncheon with a couple of homes that were presented in all their splendor. The one home, in particular, on Moonlight Dr is a stunning custom built home located in a desirable and secluded area of Murphy. The home is situated on a one acre lot and sits back away from the street with trees across the front to protect the privacy of the occupants. The photo below was taken as I walked up the long driveway from the street. The home offers four bedrooms with one of the bedrooms downstairs including the master suite. The one downstairs bedroom is well-suited for an office which the present owners have done. It also has 3 baths. The master bath shares a two way fireplace with the master suite. There are so many attributes to the hom...

Murphy Texas Housing Trends 75094        September, known as a time of change as everyone makes the transition from the summer season into the fall. Although the changing of the season is always welcomed here the housing market does tend to slow down. Typically the drop off is explained due to the focus of the family shifting to school and other outdoor activities. The housing market data results given below offer the home buyer or seller a snapshot of the current trends during the month of September. As of September 1, 2010, the housing market shows consistency in the number of homes that are available for sale. While the actively listed inventory remains consistent the results indicate a drop in the number of homes under contract for purchase and in the number of homes sold during the...

On Saturday, October 9, 2010 the Murphy Fire Department will be hosting its 6th annual Open House for the public. In the early days of Murphy the residents were dependent on the city of Plano to provide any needed fire rescue services. By the early 1970's the expense of relying on the city of Plano became burdensome to its residents. With humble beginnings the volunteer fire department was organized and put into service. It was housed in the Old Murphy School building located on N Murphy Rd. The yellow fire truck, known as "Old Yeller" by residents and families of the volunteer firemen, as seen in the picture is traveling on Murphy Rd. During those early days the city of Murphy remained a small, rural area. The photograph is provided courtesy of Steve Thurman whose dad was one of the fi...

Neighborhood Wide Garage Sale in the Gables and the Ranch Today has been an absolutely gorgeous day with clear skies, sunshine and a light, cool breeze from the north. Some households have spent the morning preparing for a neighborhood wide garage sale. Although my personal preference would be to spend the day at the State Fair at Fair Park just east of downtown Dallas. Yet, it is the big weekend for the local neighborhood wide garage sale for the Gables and the Ranch in the city of Murphy. And you never know what treasure you may find in someone else's garage. The garage sale begins on Friday, October 1st through Sunday, October 3rd. All homes participating will have balloons on their mailboxes and/or signs in their yards. Come on by and check out all the goodies or say hello to friend...

Yesterday I took some time out of my day to visit Mustang Park located on Mustang Ridge, Murphy, Texas. It was a great opportunity to enjoy some of the gorgeous fall weather we are experiencing in North Texas. I must have arrived at the right time before the little ones were awaking from their naps. Initially I only saw a couple of the little ones running around the playground which gave me the chance to snap a few photo shots to share with you. By the time I was ready to leave several young moms with toddlers in tow were arriving. One of Murphy's finest elementary schools, rated exemplary by the Texas Education Agency, Boggess Elementary is located nearby Mustang Park. I suspect that some of the vehicles filling up the parking area of the park belonged to a parent or two awaiting to pi...

Today should have been a payoff day. A time to reap the benefits of all our hard work.  Our plans were made. Activities were created. Gifts were donated. The stage was set. We were ready to wow the public with our realty gifts and treats. And here came the rain. Murphy was saturated with a heavy downpour of rain and strong winds in the wee hours of the morning. To our dismay the rain continued to make its presence known throughout the morning hours. The city officials were forced to make a call that no one really wanted to hear. They canceled the Maize Days festivities. Canceled. There was to be no corny jokes or Karaoke Corn Idol. There was not going to be a corn-spitting contest. Kidz Zone was taken away, the stage was dismantled and the hopes of 59 merchant booth sponsors was washed ...

Maize Days are fastly approaching in the city of Murphy, Texas. The festivities begin on Friday, September 25th and launch a two day event. They are held on the grounds surrounding the city municipal complex located off of N. Murphy Road. Murphy was once a farming community with corn fields plentiful. Because of its history, the city selected the name Maize Days to represent the festival. It came about due to the city's desire to recognize its 50th anniversary with the festival designed as a part of that celebration. It was such an overwhelming success with the citizens that the festival now known as Maize Days has continued as an annual event every year thereafter. People of all ages can find something to entertain and delight them during the two days of activities. This year is the la...

In a recent news release the city of Murphy reported that the FBI placed Murphy as one of two safest cities in regards to violent and property crimes during the year of 2009. The FBI's annual Uniform Crime Report is a national report of over 18,000 locations. The city of Murphy falls within the category of North Texas cities that have an area population of 10,000 to 100,000 residents. Local residents would agree that living in Murphy does have a certain atmosphere of safety. And it is nice to live in a community where the police and the fire department participate in the neighborhood events regularly. They tend to make a grand entrance arriving in a parade of emergency vehicles. The children gather quickly around these vehicles especially the fire truck. The fire men are always ready an...

Murphy Middle School is located in the heart of the city of Murphy, Texas at 620 N Murphy Rd. It is one of three middle schools that Murphy residents send their children to learn. Both of these schools provide for 6th, 7th and 8th grades. Remember when you were a kid how traveling in the car could get way too long? On our family road trips we kids would often play a version of the game I SPY. It would help to make the miles go by. At least until we would get on the rowdy side and dad would put an end to the game. I always enjoyed those games of play. Today's games are electronic and way more technical than our games ever were. Facebook alone gives us games, networking and business pages. I have a page on Facebook called Murphy Texas It's a Good Life. One day I decided to use a form of the game I SPY to connect with the people on my page. I have only been doing it for a few weeks but the response has always been good and fun. I play it a little different on the page but the players have caught on to the play quickly. I ha...

Murphy Texas Housing Trends        August has been a decent time to sell a single family home in Murphy Texas. Some analysts projected a drop in the housing market due to the fact that school started as well as the earlier fall out of buyers from the first time homebuyers tax credit. It is certainly not reflected in city of Murphy. The market data results given below offer the home buyer or seller a snapshot of the current housing trends during the month. As of August 1, 2010, the market shows an increase in the homes available. Normally an increase in housing inventory could cause a concern for sellers but Murphy also shows an increase in the number of homes sold as well as the number of homes under contract. The monthly statistics* are below. 102 homes available for sale 20 homes are ...
