May 25, 2012 Barbecue Fund Raiser for Huntsville TX Police Department   A benefit barbecue event will take place from 10am to 3pm May 25 to help the Huntsville Police Department raise funds for a K-9 unit. The department’s longtime police dog – “Quintus” – passed away recently – and the local law enforcement agency is looking for monetary assistance in procuring another K-9 unit. The barbecue event will take place in the parking lot of the police department – the lot is located on 10th Street behind 1st United Methodist Church in downtown Huntsville. Sandwiches and whole briskets will be offered for sale. Donations will also be accepted. A minimum of 10 orders will be delivered at $5 a plate. Cooked briskets will be sold for $40. Sam Houston Memorial Museum Complex The Sam Houston Memorial Museum is located at 1836 Sam Houston Avenue across from the main entrance to Sam Houston State University. While the museum is home to many relics from the Sam Houston era, the park is also home to several historical buildings, a museum store, lake, and an education center. The Sam Houston Memorial Museum Complex is a favorite field trip for Texas school children as well as home schooled children. The education center staff and volunteers go all out by dressing in their period clothing, showing short films and providing tours and demonstrations on the 18 acre museum complex grounds.
