My Thought Provoker for Today October 13, 2012   This week I had someone ask a question: When I move into my home should I have the locks changed?                                                              My Answer....I highly recommend.....YES Also, if you have a security gate always notify the Fire Department and EMS. They will have the security code to get through the gate. Hopefully you will not ever have to call the EMS or Fire Department, but they need to get through your security gate in case there is an Emergency.         Carl Winters Advanced Home Inspector (TREC) Home and Commercial Inspections Canyon Lake, New Braunfels, San Antonio 830-660-0131

When you enter you realize immediately you are standing looking at animals that lived here at Canyon Lake area about 100M plus years ago. One was Acrocanthosaurus, said to be a meat-eater.                        Never know what you might find in limestone. Who would have ever thought we live in the same area where Dinasours once lived. Dinasoures were here way before Canyon Lake.   If you would like to know more and visit The Heritage Museum go here:   Just one more thing you can see and do when you visit Canyon Lake Texas. http://www.theheritagemuseum.com/ 830-899-4542   If you are new to Canyon Lake before to visit The Heritage Museum.                    WATER SAFETY MESSAGE!                         Canyon Lake TX I heard a siren yesterday here at Canyon Lake Texas. My first thought was " oh, oh someone is in trouble out on the lake".  During the summer months when we hear a siren and see an ambulance headed toward the lake this is always our thought. Below is a Water Safety Message I came across posted by  U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Water Safety Message. My Advice: Follow all rules and always practice caution.                                The Message: There is no good way to convey the tragedy in a family that occurs when a loved one drowns. A day of recreation and happiness quickly becomes a day of mourning and sadness for family and friends when anyone drowns. Every life is precious and important, yet a simpl...

Scammers, Spammers, and Low-Life's (Beware) This article was sent by our local internet provider. well worth the read. Darn those scammers.     Scam Warning – Beware Of Fake BBB Emails   Businesses and consumers across the country are being hit by an ongoing email scam that appears to be from the Better Business Bureau (BBB). The fake emails started late last year and have gone through a number of variations since then. aIn one, people report receiving phone calls—in addition to emails—from scammers claiming to be from the BBB. These callers offer help to remove a virus from the recipient's computer. They claim the computer was infected when the owner downloaded a virus from an email scam using the BBB name. The BBB is cautioning not to give out any personal information to callers or to...

They bring us great enjoyment and offer us all the comforts that we require in our home. Can you guess what it is? My short-list is on Telephone Pole Safety. Yes indeed this is an "important blog" you need to read. It's short and to the point.        No Garage Sale Signs, No Lost & Found Signs, No Cake Sales Signs                  (Do Not Hang Signs or Posters from Telephone Poles)   1.  Do Not ... post fliers or posters on wooden telephone poles. This can damage the poles. You've seen that with lost dog signs, garage sale signs, missing person signs. These posters and protruding nails, staples and tacks ca...

Do you live in Comal County and are you a member of Pedernales Electric Cooperative? Planting Trees Requires Planning (Your Landscape) Overgrown trees can be a risk. Please remember when you select and plant a tree, it's important to understand how large the tree will be when it is mature. Example: Note distance from the telephone pole. Allow adequate distance from electric power lines and infrastructure. Avoid hazards by planting trees with overhead power lines in mind and consider a safe distance. *** If you have questions you can visit www.pec.coop/landscaping or call 1-888-554-4732.     A few weeks ago I did a blog about a Topsy-Turvy Jalapeno Pepper Planter. Here's an update.            So far, so good. If all goes well the next update we will begin to see some blooms. One great thing, if this Topsy -Turvy Jalapeno Pepper Planter works we won't have to worry about the Texas Hill Country white tail deer eating the plants...not unless they can jump to reach the planter that is hanging from the second story baloney. Freezing weather tonight and tomorrow and back up to the 80's next week. Burrrrr! Old Man Winter is making a return to New Braunfels and Canyon Lake (Texas Hill Country). Bringing in some freezing temperatures and a chance for frozen precipitation.  The western edge of a strong arctic cold front entered the area early this morning.. A beautiful clear day but cold. Don't forget to cover your PLANTS, wrap your PIPES and make sure your PETS are secure.       I think Brutus will settle down and sleep on his nice pillow this evening. LET IT RAIN....Texas Hill Country Keep Your Fingers Crossed We could see some ominous clouds for a few minutes this morning before the thick, dense fog set in here at Canyon Lake TX. Keep your fingers crossed; the weather spokesperson, Storm Tracker Weather Cast, said there is a good chance we will get anywhere from 1-3 inches of rain this evening North of San Antonio in the Texas Hill Country (Boerne, Bulverde, Canyon Lake, Spring Branch and New Braunfels).  Unfortunately everyone still has red eyes and runny nose from the high levels of Mountain Cedar that is in the air. Maybe the rain will settle down the Mountain Cedar. Everyone please keep your fingers crossed that we get this much needed rain here in Texas.
