Staging has been the buzz word in Real Estate selling for the last several years.  Some embrace it’s relativity to timely sales of homes and final sales price and others do not.  The act of staging a home is solely for the purpose of increasing appeal to more potential buyers and thus inducing a swifter sale for a higher price. No matter the market or local you are in the competition is robust and setting your home apart from the others is imperative. National research has shown that a staged home spends a third to half LESS time on the market and can fetch anywhere from 10% to 15% more money$  Now doesn’t that sound better than decreasing the price? Here are a few simple tips that anyone can do: C  De-personalize:  Pack away family pictures and personal objects that can distract a pot...

When pricing your home, don’t get caught up in the emotion of setting a sales price that is in the clouds.  By that I mean, the financial windfall of what-ifs can lead you to pricing your home way out of line with ‘Market Value’   ~Market value is very real, and a pie in the sky idea of getting more than that could lead you to holding the bag on a stale listing that has chased away potential buyers.  ~Your opinion of what YOU think your home is worth, has absolutely NOTHING  to do with the market value or the price a buyer is willing to pay.  The listing price of your home is a carefully calculated number that involves both art & science.  First a comparison of similar properties in your neighborhood, which have sold or are pending is completed. This process will involve knowing the co...

No city or village would be complete without a place for spiritual gathering together.  Bayou Vista Texas is no different. Sitting at one of the only entrances (Sailfish & Neptune Dr) into the village, Faith Community Church greets you like an old, lost friend.  The sign out front says it all. The church with a non-denominational philosophy meets every Sunday morning without fail.  The small congregation is unassuming, friendly and very casual.  Upon arrival you will be greeted like family and it won’t take a few moments before you feel right at home. The music team always provides some wonderful sounds of praise, with a contemporary flair that will get hands clapping.  As Pastor Jack prepares to speak, he gets right to the point…..….On time, on target and straight from the hip. Both y...

Living in a small village on the West Bay of Galveston is great.  Fishing at your back door, bird watching, the sounds of the bay, but one thing we have little of is dining out opportunities.   Unless of course your neighbor has something on the grill!  Don’t get it wrong there is plenty of wonderful food just 10 miles to the island, but what about those nights when you are not wanting to cook, you just don’t want to drive far or take out would be perfect.  That’s when you go to the local ‘Bistro’……just 2 minutes from any home in the village.   The Bayou Bistro is a small intimate hang out with a full bar, big screen TVs and food that you won’t forget.  The pasta is great, the Tuna divine and just enough room to get wonderful service. So next time you come to Bayou Vista Texas, make ti...

Galveston Texas Haunting’s They say that Galveston Island is one of the most haunted places in the world.  Galveston has been home to the allegedly cannibalistic Karankawa Indians and merciless pirates, including the famous Jean Laffite whose lavish and lawless den of thieves was the island's first European settlement. Galvestonians in the 19th century knew fires, epidemics of yellow fever and malaria, military occupation and bitter war, and of course, storms. The great ‘Storm’, as it is called was a mighty Hurricane that swept across Galveston Island on September 8, 1900. It was the greatest natural tragedy the entire state had ever known.   The storm took more than 10,000 men, women and children. Among the dead were 10 sisters and 90 children from the St. Mary's Orphans Asylum, opera...

WHO is Under My Sink???   Looking under the sink is like going into strange and scary basements……YOU NEVER KNOW what is waiting for you! I cautiously entered the home and began to check out all the nooks and crannies; everything was going well and to plan until I approached the dreaded kitchen sink.  I checked behind me, to the left and to the right.  All is quiet, No movement.  I feel the hair on the back of my neck standing up, and a bead of sweat form on my brow. I tell myself it will be ok, just pull the cabinet door open slowly, no quickly, NO… just don’t look this once, no one will ever know! Gently, I stoop down to get a good, complete visual……… I knew it…      those beady eyes, those antennae looking back at me!!! Neither of us moving …staring each other down~~~~~~~~I need to TH...
