The Holston River is where I grew up as a child. I have been fortunate to always have the opportunity to relive these great experiences. The Holston river starts in Virginia and runs through East Tennessee until it meets the French Broad river in Knoxville. These two rivers join to become the Tennessee river. The Holston River divides Grainger County (where I live) and Jefferson County. The water is cold and clear and is perfect for a lazy summer afternoon. I have fished the river all of my life forthe sport fish here. Trout and smallmouth bass are in abundance, but my favorite are the "redeye". These small bass are the toughest fighting fish in the river ounce for ounce. They seldom get over 1 lb. so use ultralight gear and 4 lb. test for the most enjoyment. When the fishing is off I e...

Cherokee Lake is located at a historical crossroads in East Tennessee. The major route from Washington D.C. to New Orleans was Lee Highway. Lee Hwy. runs through Grainger county and is parallel to Cherokee Lake. The passage west from North Carolina was Cumberland Gap and to access that route one must go through Bean's Station. Bean Station as it is called now is the northern most town in Grainger County and adjacent to Cherokee Lake. This lake features beautiful scenery as well as great fishing, skiing and camping.

Grainger County has the second oldest brick jail in the state of Tennessee. The archives of Grainger County have finally found a climate controlled home. The old Rutledge high school now houses the archives and the museum. Make plans to visit, you will not be disappointed.

The end of March brings the harbinger of Spring around the Clinch Mountains. Morels have started showing up in the low areas this week. I was able to transplant  the first ones of this year. They were moved from their cold damp beds to the heat of my cast iron skillet. I will be out again this week looking in a few higher areas around poplars & oaks. Don't miss out on this great opportunity, it comes but once a year.

Located on the Holston River in Grainger County is East Tennessee's newest airpark. The landing strip is 3,000 ft. long and has home sites adjacent to it for licensed pilots. A golf course and restaurant are planned for the next phase. There is also 4,000 ft. of river frontage that features great trout fishing. You can drive into Knoxville in less than 25 minutes, or fly over the Great Smoky Mt. in less that 10 minutes. If you own a plane and enjoy flying, be sure to check our newest development out!  http://www.hgre.net

Sarting in December I get ready to hike and enjoy the Clinch Mt. range. These beautiful unspoiled and less traveled peaks run through Grainger County. I particularly enjoy the solitude of roaming these mountains as I never see anyone. Clinch Mt. is a wild mountain range that starts at Signal Point in Blaine,TN and goes into Virginia. Signal Point was a key position in the war between the states as Knoxville can be seen from from this vista. These hikes also give me a different perspective of my listings in relation to their surroundings. The Great Smoky Mountain National Park has many trails and much easier access but I will stick with the wild game paths of my Clinch Mountains.

Up the road about 30 miles east of Knoxville, Tenenssee lies Grainger County, home of some of the most famous tomatoes in the south. Tomatoes are Grainger Counties' largest cash crop producing millions of dollars in revenue yearly. The Grainger County folks celebrate their famous crops on the last weekend in July each year with the Grainger County Tomato Festival Lots of arts, crafts, music, food, exhibits, and displays at the Festival but tomatoes are the star of the show. Going to the Tomato Festival has become an annual tradition at the Lee household so Saturday my lovely bride and I went to enjoy ourselves once again. This is selling real estate Tennessee country style. No computers, no Blackberries (except the kind you spread on a biscuit), no fancy stuff, just a "come on in and s...

Beautiful Cherokee Lake is set in the Foothills of the Clinch Mountains of TN. Cherokee Lake is only 30 minutes away from Knoxville and is located In the cities of Morristown, Jefferson City, Rutledge, Bean Station, Mooresburg as well as other small communities. Cherokee Lake is also less than an Hours drive to the Great Smoky Mountains if TN where you will find endless shopping, entertainment, recreational activities and some of the finest restaurants Tennessee has to offer. I have heard it said by home owners that the decision of relocating to Cherokee Lake has been one of the best decisions that they have made in their lives. There are so Many advantages of living in Tennessee. The state of Tennessee has some of the lowest property taxes in the country as well as no state income tax....

Don't Flush Bathroom Renovation Dollars Down the DrainLooking for bathroom bliss? You're not alone. Bathroom renovations consistently score as one of the most-desired home improvements. Improving your bathroom will not only add to your own enjoyment of your home, but it can increase its value and make it more attractive to potential buyers if you choose to sell your home. However, you need to take the time to make sure you are getting the bathroom you want. Bungled bathroom renovations can cost you big time - in frustration, value and repair dollars. "The bathroom is no place for novice do-it-yourselfers," says Paige Thomas of ReliableRemodeler.com, an online service that helps homeowners connect with qualified contractors in their area. About 30 miles east of Knoxville is the pleasant little town of Rutledge located in Grainger County Tennessee. As all the local folks know in east Tennessee, Grainger County is to tomatoes what Vidalia, Georgia is to onions. Grainger County is, hands down the tomato capital of Tennessee. To celebrate this luscious vegetable (or fruit if you prefer) the local folks hold an annual event called not surprisingly "The Grainger County Tomato Festival"This weekend my lovely bride and I drove up to Rutledge to check it out. It was overcast and drizzly but that didn't seem to dampen the crowds; I estimate there were somewhere between 1500 to 2000 people attending along with a large group of exhibitors displaying and hawking everything from antique engines to local art to home grown and canned jam...
