HOME STYLE AND STAGING recently re-designed a dining room closet into a bar area http://activerain.com/blogsview/1685275/poof-a-closet-becomes-a-bar-area- and they have enjoyed the built-in so much they asked me to re-vamp the pantry so that they could display some of their cookware. We took the door off, painted the inside with the same paint as the bar area, as they are in the same open area.       So hopefully I can move on to another project in the house, this is fun...using color, organizing and de-cluttering love doing all three !!!

HOME STYLE AND STAGING has just completed it's 100th blog...                                                                                                                                    I really didn't know that I had that much to say, or rather that I wrote so many...it has been fun and now looking forward to saying more in the next couple of years...wow I must be tired...and where did I come up with all this material...??? It has been fun looking back at some of the ones that I have posted, and some that maybe I should not have posted. My two Schnauzers, Lexie and Lucie, never sit and beg whenever I am eating breakfast on the couch and watching TV. They just sit and stare until I hand them something. On this morning, I was have a yummy, blueberry muffin and coffee, and had to get up and go check on something in the other room. When I left the room they were sitting right where they are sitting now, except for one minor difference, my yummy blueberry muffin was gone.. and Lucie had blueberry muffin crumbs in her beard, do you think that they thought that I would not notice ??? There is no way I could be mad at those two faces, but I did miss that blueberry muffin !!!

I have lived in Knoxville my entire life. I very vaguely remember going to the World's Fair in 1982. I was 3. Since then I mainly have memories of the World's Fair Park for the 4th of July. There was a shallow cement pond that always seemed to have ducks and someone with a remote control boat. Aside from that, not much was there. Wasn't really a place that I ever thought to bring my kids. That was until recently. Last weekend the Knox County Public Libraries launched their summer reading program. This was the first time that I attended and I will surely not miss it again. It was pretty cool to hear Skippy John Jones read by the author, Judy Schachner. But I digress. I want to highlight the updated World's Fair Park so that other parents don't miss out, like I have. I do realize that the...

As all my friends know here on AR, HOME STYLE AND STAGING,has been having some slow times recently. So to try and keep my head above water   I have been doing some event planning and special event decorating. Which I do love doing, and that part of my business is moving right along. Which I might add is a good thing. Last week I planned and decorated a "50" birthday "beach theme" party. It was held at the Holiday Inn here in Knoxville, complete with dinner, open bar and DJ. There were about 150 people invited and I do think that each and everyone came and brought a friend. It was a great party. Her sister gave her the party, she surprised her by having her other 3 sisters fly in from California, and her nephew and his wife fly in from France. There were lots of surprises, great food and...

HOME STYLE AND STAGING recevied a phone call recently, a lady called to ask about my pricing, etc. Into the conversation she began to question the pricing, the way in which I did the staging, the time that it would take, when I could start the project, etc. Needless to say I was beginning to get somewhat annoyed with her badgering.  However, thought I had better be nice and helpful as she may turn out to be a REAL client. The she said the words that all of us (Stagers) hate to hear.... "I HAVE WATCHED THE STAGING SHOWS AND I THINK THAT I CAN DO THIS MYSELF"...  I do not know about you but I am sick and tired of hearing this from people. Oh, and she did add..." I AM PRETTY GOOD AT DECORATING, ALL MY FRIENDS TELL ME SO" Oh really ?? I think to myself. So, I realized that she just wanted c...

MY VERY FIRST JOB AS A HOME STAGER, was not only a staging job but turned out to be something alot more.  I had just completed my on-line course with HOME STAGING RESOURCE,  reading everything that I could get my hands on, learning how to market myself, etc. HOME STYLE AND STAGING WAS OPEN AND READY FOR BUSINESS !!! I went to my local market where they have the free books for buyers to pickup and see the homes that are for sale, etc. My daughter and I came home sat down and entered every Realtor in our area in my address book on the computer. I then composed a "sort of" news letter to be sent to each and everyone of them. So, still a "newbie" and had no idea what I was doing, began the task of sending each Realtor my "news letter". Looking back, I have to smile as this is what it takes t...

Here's a great story Hana Kim of WATE did on our local housing market (Knoxville, TN area). The sales are way up for February and March. Finally, the buyers seem to be coming out. It is such a great time to buy now. I am urging everyone who has been thinking about moving to do it now, before the interest rates go too high. There is no need to wait for house prices to go down any lower. They are staying relatively flat (going down only slightly). If interest rates go up by even 1%, you will lose more money than you save if you wait for the prices to come down. http://www.wate.com/Global/story.asp?S=12259353

NORTH KNOXVILLE HOME STAGING was recently done by HOME STYLE AND STAGING LLC  MARY LOU TEAGUE... SOLD WITHIN 3 WEEKS OF STAGING ! A while back, I was contacted ( through Active Rain ) by a seller to stage her mother's older home.  Since she lived out of town, I had work directly with the Realtor.  I did the walk thru, make the presentation, and got the job for "Vignette Staging".   The home was older, but has some very well done upgrades. Even with the upgrades the home is still an older home. I decided to place more modern accessories in the home just to see how it would go over.  After I did the staging the Realtor  had an open house the next day. She feels that this really helped to show the house,as before it was staged, there were only a few glass vases with silk flowers placed aro...

WEST KNOXVILLE REAL ESTATE HOME STAGING West Knoxville home staged, with great results !!! HOME STYLE AND STAGING LLC staged this home in West Knoxville, Knoxville, TN. This home was built for an individual and they had to back out on the sale. So the builder lived there for a time. Deciding that they had to get the property sold, they contacted HOME STYLE AND STAGING LLC  and presented us with the budget that they could live with. This home is in an upscale neighborhood with all homes being in the $400,000 and up price range. The home overlooks the water of Fort Loudon Lake, and very accessible to schools, shopping, etc. Since the budget was tight, we staged the kitchen, small den, family room, hallway, dining room, bedroom and bathroom. Since the home was new there was not any changes...

It seems as though the past year has had a dark cloud looming over our economy.  With all of the negativity in the media (unemployment rates, foreclosures, etc), it's no wonder that the use of antidepressants is up 75% (according to Psychcentral.com)!  Now I'm no doctor, but it doesn't take a doctor to figure out that if you surround yourself with negativity in every aspect of your life, you WILL end up needing some form of medication to help you cope!  With that being said, I have been watching our local market here in Knoxville and I must say, things are looking up!  Here's an example:  the Downtown area of Knoxville was in a "dormant" stage for many years.  However, in the past 3-5 years,  several real estate developers began to see how the "old commercial buildings" could be renovat...

Rerecently I read a blog post about homes giving off a "VIBE". ( Sorry to say I did not bookmark, so if anyone knows where I saw it or who wrote it please let me know, it was full of great information ) I was so impressed, as I have been trying to come up with this for a couple of years now. The main "VIBE" that I seem to run into a lot is "an older person lives or lived here". Actually, the first home that I did a "Walk Thru" with a Realtor. I said walking up to the front door, an older person lived here, right ? She was amazed that I said that, even more so that I was correct. The front door had two side windows, the windows had lace sheers covering the small glass inserts. What a dead give-a-way, that someone older lived there. Last week, I did a "Walk Thru" and hanging over every wi...

HOME STYLE AND STAGING does its share of moving, lifting, packing and unpacking !!!               However, when given the chance I will jump at the chance to be turned loose in a store with $5,000 !! Well who wouldn't?? But if that doesn't happen, I will be just as happy ( well almost ) as being able to stage a home where the owner is moving out, and leaves some things for me to stage with. That means, all I have to do is show up and go from room to room moving things around and staging to my hearts content...A stager's dream.... Here are some photos of my recent staging on Saturday, the before and after. I was a lucky girl, no packing and unpacking....              BEFORE                                                                                             AF...
