The Great Race downtown Johnson City TN     The Great Race is a spin-off of the Amazing Race that we are all familiar with on TV.  It is a race around the world on the Amazing Race, but in our little corner of the world, it is a race around downtown Johnson City cracking codes, solving puzzles, and following clues.   We run the race with 4 person teams and we all start at the same point in downtown Johnson City.   We start at 10:00 am and depending on your team, it could take anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours.  We end at a very fun spot, not to be disclosed until you are in the game and figuring out the clues!  As a bonus, all the money raised goes to Children's Miracle Network and stays local! This will be our 8th running of this fantastically fun fundraiser!!  We get the same team...

Best view in Johnson City and it's Open this SundayThis is an incredible home, starting with a fantastic North JC location, set back in Lake Meadow subdivision with views of mountains, lake, and countryside.  The 2 levels of decking are the perfect solitude to enjoy your mornings or evenings.  The lower-level deck has the perfect spot for your full-sized hot tub.  2.6 acres allows for that space needed for running, playing and an abundance of professional landscaping, trees, flowers, and wildlife!  This neighborhood is amazing, while we were here there were 2 deer just sitting in the neighbor's back yard relaxing, checking us out. The house sits on a Cul-de-sac, which is also a plus.  The house itself is absolutely fantastic. The space alone is incredible.  All the rooms are oversized a...

Interesting bird habits in Northeast Tennessee I have always enjoyed my birds and made sure I have feeders and food out for our many feathered friends, but boy have I learned so much about birds this year!  We have a new store in town called Wild Birds Unlimited.  It is a franchise and many of you may already know about this wonderful place.  They are amazing and very knowledgeable about birds. Definitely the local bird experts and willing to share their wealth of knowledge.  I stumbled upon this store back in March of this year.  I thought I would go in and buy some feed.  I had no idea I would end up joining a club, buying several new feeders, and learning about what birds to be on the lookout for.  I even learned where in the area to find the Baltimore Oriole and when they would be t...

Contingent on home selling..and it didn't!  This was before the market broke wide open.  Oh, if only we knew what was going to happen in this market.  Lots of wasted days on market. The agent said, this house will sell fast!  I believed him.  We removed our house from the market and wished for the best.  Didn't happen.  We now have this home on the market that has been sitting there collecting days on market.  So, we need to get some buyers through.  This is a great home.  It is beautiful, well maintained, excellent condition.  Passed the home inspection with flying colors.  One repair, minor, DONE.  In the market we are in, this house should SELL quickly.  If you are in the market, 544 Suffolk Road.  Great property. This property has been maintained very well by current owners. It has ...

Mortgage rates edged lower early this week due in part to the Middle east tensions. Freddie Mac reports that the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage fell by eight basis points to 3.64% with 0.7 in points and fees. However, rates have inched higher in the past few days. Freddie Mac says that the drop in mortgage rates, combined with the strong labor market, should propel a continued rise in homebuyer demand. Last year this time the rate was 4.45%.The Federal Reserve reports that the value of all U.S. owner-occupied homes increased to a record $29.2 trillion in Q3 2019 in its Flow of Funds Report. It was a 4.2% increase from a year earlier, the slowest annualized gain since 2012. Americans owned $18.7 trillion of their homes, giving them a 64% equity stake, the report said. In addition, the colle...

Johnson City TN winter weather.  It's going to be a cold one according to the wooley worms!  (solid black, getting their winter coats ready).  According to the farmers almanac, there will be a lot of snow and ice.  The month of December looks to be pretty mild with temperatures staying right around an average of 50 degrees with the lows hanging around 30's until we get to the 26th where we have 3 days of COLD.  (17-18 degree).  January looks like there will be plenty of percipitation, followed closely by March.  February looks like bone chilling cold.  Which is pretty normal in these parts.  February always seems like the coldest month of the year.  The beauty of this area is that spring usually starts early for us.  It is not unusual for us to have some warm spring like temperatures by...

The great bonus, all the money raised went to Children's Miracle Network.    We had such an amazing time putting on this race.  Months went into the planning and implementing of all the clues, tasks, and local dow...

The NFIB Small Business Optimism Index edged lower in June from May though it remains near historically high levels. The index fell to 103.3 from 105.0 in May. The NFIB commented that if economic growth slows, that is not bad in a fully employed economy that can’t find enough workers to fill open job positions. "Job openings and plans to create jobs remain historically very strong, and while it's not as "hot" as May, Main Street is still running strong," said NFIB Chief Economist William Dunkelberg.Job openings remained higher than there are workers to fill those positions across the country as the labor market continues running on all cylinders. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that job openings fell by 49,000 on the last day of May to 7.32 million from 7.37 million in April in i...

SORBA Tri-Cities, what a terrific organization. SORBA stands for Southern off-road biking association.  They have several chapters, Tri-Cities being one of them.  There are several mountain bike trails in the Tri-Cities and they are growing in popularity.  SORBA,  in a nutshell, is a not for profit corporation, formed in December 1998 to promote mountain biking in Northeast Tennessee.  They are raising awareness and helping to build and maintain safe trails.  Enhancement and preservation of trails for the enjoyment of our community.  What a cool Mission!  SORBA does have a website to visit, please follow link.   We visited the Mountain Bike Trail at Wing Deer Park today.  It was really a special place.  Trails all through the upper wooded part of the park. Volunteers and SORBA have had ...

Day 5 and we are out and about.  The snow in Johnson City TN has haulted and we were able to get off out mountain.  (Jake got the day off and is home relaxing in front of the fire) By the end of the day today, our driveway was melting quickly.  It's not that we can't go out and shovel (which we will do today) but due to the steep, long nature of the driveway, and the elevation, it's better to let nature finish her job before we take on ours.  I think our break is over!

First snow of the year, Johnson City TN.  Yesterday shut our town down.  Schools closed, stores closed, businesses closed.  Many roads were a mess!  We got out, but my car ended up staying at RE/MAX and we had to park the truck 1/2 mile from house.  It's okay, we had a great time with our snow day.  Tomorrow we have a winter storm coming at 4:45pm Friday that is suppose to last until 4:00am Sunday.  Break out the sleds!

Johnson City Farmer's Market Pavilion has been a long awaited project.  It is located downtown, across from the old open air parking lot that served as Johnson City's Farmers Market for years.  This new project catapolts this city's market into the "cool" sector!  This project is part of the revitalization project in the downtown area.  The venue will also be available to rent for special events.  It's going to be a huge hit for this area. The Grand opening should take place sometime in late January.  I look forward to following the continuation of this exciting project in Johnson City.  Video for sure, coming soon!!

Recently, around the town of Johnson City, statues of Buffalos have been popping up everywhere.  At first, with just one in my sight, I though it was just a cool statue, but as the week-end turned to Monday, I saw these buffaloes turning up everywhere.  Well, I must explore.  Milligan College, here is Elizabethton Tennessee, has the mascot of Brutus the Buffalo.   He was named due to the college being located at the base of the Buffalo Creek, shadowed by Buffalo Mountain.  (It truly is a lovely area).    Well I have learned , these buffaloes are part of the 150 year anniversary for Milligan College.  As part of the Buffalo Stampede City Art Project. Milligan College has commissioned six life sized , artistically decorated buffaloes for display in the community.  Yes it is, A buffalo sta...
