There is a new trend in housing that has been showing up in Collegedale, Tennessee for a while and I see it beginning to trend elsewhere.  Like the name implies, Collegedale is a college town; home to Southern Adventist University, a large religous university. University housing is spread out throughout the town of Collegedale including dormitories, graduate student housing and faculty rental units.  A lot of real estate is owned by the university.  Students are required to live in supervised housing until they reach a certain age, however, most of them flee immediately, upon making the cut off, to independent housing.  Due to the continual influx of students and faculty, Collegedale is a terrific rental market, and many long term residents invest in real estate in the area and use it a...

This past Sunday was the annual Collegedale Christmas parade.  It seems to grow larger each year with more people lining the streets to view it.  No, it's not Macy's, but, it is something the little community has a lot of pride in and puts a lot of energy into.  There are floats; usually farm and landscape trailers decorated for the holidays with neighborhood kids aboard.  The there are the vintage cars all decorated for the holidays.  Of course there is the beauty queen; usually a local high school girl that was homecoming queen or some such thing.  I wonder if they will ever let a boy be the parade queen?  Of course there are the high schol bands and the local politicians walking down pison Pike and Little Debbie Parkway.  The floats and exhibits are sponsored by local businesses such...

Today is a half and half day; part fall, part wineter.   It rained hard all night and then this morning it was windy.  Now about 1 P.M. it is getting downright chilly and the prediction is for snow flurries this evening. Welcome to Tennessee!  They say here that if you don't like the weather now, wait 10 minutes.  I am not sure that I have made the adjustment from summer to fall yet and here we go winter.  I have to admit that we have been having unseasonably warm temeratures for the last month or so, but, now it will be spitting snow tonight?  I enjoy the change of seasons, don't get me wrong.   In Tennessee however, both Fall and Spring seem very short.  We don't see much snow here so the winters are not like the Northeast that I am used to, but, Spring and Fall are my favorite season...

What wonderful sounds an sites and smells are in Collegedale, Tn this time of year!  I am not going to try to tell you a story, simply let you look at what I collected today from around town in the fall season.. By the way, this weekend was homecoming weekend for Collegedaale Academy and a lot of folks were in town to enjoy the season and many special events and old friends.  There were several concerts and a gymnastic exhibit that I know of and  many other events that I haven't caught up with yet. The ballfield at SAU behind the Fleming Plaza buildings and Collegedale Post Office. Old Camp road on the way to the scuppernong vineyard. The duck pond in Collegedale, Tn. The Nature Nook by the Greenway University Dr. heading north Collegedale, Tn. By the outdoor theater. So, if you have e...

I haven't written about the Poos in a while, so, here's an update: MARILYN   She is home now at 16 months old.   She is growing coat to go back in the show ring.  She is turning out to be an intelligent, athletic and highly independent girl.  Stuning to look at.  She came home with 4 points and a HUGE bill for me to pay.  Taking care of coat is not my forte so we struggle along.  Today is supposed to be Marilyn grooming day. SAGITTA  She is 18 months now and ever my little agility queen and early warning detector.  You know that thos dangerous squirrels require a prompt alert.  She has wonderful structure and the most fabulous coat I have seen on a Poodle.  Unfortunately it is dirty a lot of the time because she is the ultimate tomboy! She loves water and mud. RICOH  My stallion is now ...

The time has NEVER been better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  In perhaps the last ten years this has got to be without a doubt a terrific time to buy a home or a rental investment in Collegedaale, Tn.  Usually properties are difficult to find, but, with worried home sellers, there is more inventory thaan normal and better prices.  This town's market never really declines and it is certainly not a haven for foreclosure.  The real estate market here is very cyclical with students and faculty at SAU coming and going.  Most homes turn every 4-6 years because of the transition in life stages.  Parents can buy a house or rental property for less in monthly or annual payments than it costs to house a student at a dorm and then when the student graduates they can usually sell for a profit.  The rental market i...

Many of you remember me telling you about Twinkle a.k.a. TuTu's visit and her planned breeding.  Well, Monday I sent her from Atlanta to California hoping that we caught her heat cycle right.  Well guess what?  The breeder called me yesterday and said that there was one breeding with a short tie.  She is planning on attempting again today and then again on Sunday.  We have our fingers crossed.  If all goes well there will be June pups on the ground.  Kathy her owner is still in Brazil but she is very happy.  We are both looking forward to the pups!        Twinkle being a couch potato at my house right before she left.

The Collegedale, Tennessee is a small, but, an active little airport located on the corner of Apison Pike and Bess Moore Road in Collegedale, right on the Apison border.  It caters to the Southern University, McKee Foods (Little Debbie); the Seventh Day dventist Church and local enthusiasts. For a small are this is a very active airport.  You may have read about  tragic crsh after tkeoff about 12/3 years ago when four people were killed including the regional head of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.  You will see mostly small single engine planes but there are  few antiques and a few twin engines also.  The airport boasts a nice little cafe the Sky View Cafe which features burgers and sandwichs as well as country home cooking features t dinner time. It was a beautiful but chilly day.  ...

Today in Collegedale Tennessee, the annual ressurection pagent was once again held and the entire community was invited. This is definitely a treat for young nd old.  In this Easter celebration, the final hours of Christ's life, including the ascension, are re-enacted by means of  walking tour that includes camels and sheep and five hundred members of the Southern University student body.  There is music by various choirs from throughout the county and the public is invited to participate regardless of affiliation.  The pilgrimage walks through Collegedale, stopping at significant spots for a portion of the ceremony.  If you are in town next year, it is something that you don't want to miss.  Sorry, I don't have ant pictures that I can share with you. marinabroker@aol.com   423-785-7768

It is nine ine the morning in Collegedale, Tennessee in Hamilton County  Tennessee.  It has been snowing since about seven this morning.  My dogs are out and loving it.  There does not seem to be any accumulation anywhere except on the grass and parked cars.  I have been watching the Weather Channel and it appears that the same type of conditions will extend down to almost Atlanta where I am heading.  I just received a weather alert on my computer warning of freezing rain and ice on the roads  on the Cumberland plateau.  This is a worthwhile service that I signed up for.  Whenever a weather alert is issued by the National Weather Service I receive an email notifying me.  I can sign up for other areas as well.  I would like to hear from everyone around the Southeast region and see what i...

The weather report for the greater Chattanooga area tonight is suggesting that we are going to have severe winter weather overnight and into the morning. Being a skeptic I have tended to dismiss it, however, tonight the reports re getting more and more expansive and prevalent.  It just poured buckets but it is still warm outside.  Not sure whether to believe it or not but they do seem quite serious and emphatic about the matter.  To top things off I need to drive to Atlanta tomorrow to pick up my friend's bitch for breeding.  Now I am in Ooltewah, Collegedale Tn. so our weather varies slightly and I know that Lookout Mountain and Signal Mountain will probably get a good dose but now they are suggesting that Northern Alabama and Northern Georgia will get significnt accumulation too so I ...

I took a leisurely ride around today in the 60 degree sunshine and was inspired to write a short post to introduce everyone to Collegedale, a true hidden gem tucked in the valley of Hamilton County Tn.  Cleveland is to the North, White Oak Mountain to the Northwest, Chattanooga to the Southwest and Ringgold Ga. to the South.  The scenery is beautiful and for sucha small, well manicured little town, it sure has a lot of conveniences and ammenities. It is home the Southern Adventist University and McKee's Bakery of Little Debbie fame.  There is a post office, a vegetarian market and a fantastic library. There are 5 banks as well as two credit unions.  The Collegedale Credit Union has been making loans and keeping track of people's money for many years.  Anyone who lives or works in the c...

Here in the small enclave of Collegedale, home of the Southern Adventist University, there is a hidden gem that provides vegetarian and natural products for everyone that knows about it.  The lifeblood of the community of Collegedale is the university and McKee's Bakery, home of the Little Debbie brand of snacks. The university is a Seventh Day Adventist instituition, and this religion places a lot of emphasis on health and a vegetarian lifestyle, so, it was a natural that this small grocery market would be here.   Located at 5002 University Dr. in the Fleming Plaza, this little store is packed fulll of everything that someone living this type of lifestyle could want. There is an isle of vegetarian meat products, one with essential oils, vitamins and supplements and my favorite part;  ...

Well gang, unbelievable, but, thanks to you and my poodles, this is  officially my 100 th blog entry!!!  Hurry.  I joined in Novemeber and it has been quite eventful if short.  You have seen me through my de-cluttering, my MS relapse and scare; my remodeling and my poodle's first snow.  Now you re reading my 100th blog and it seemed like it would never happen, but, I'm hooked forever now.  I also have ccomplished #1 in my city, #1 in my county, and #11 in my state.  Not bad for less than 3 months.  Of course without all of your actiive dialogue I wouldn't be here.  zI like chasing gols but mostly I really like the people here.  Thanks Gang for all of your support!

OK I don't mean to be redundant here, but, I have tried repeatedly to add these photos to the original Sagiitta blog and Active Rain will not let me pull it up so rather than have everyone missout on seeing her playing in her first snow, I have dedicaated another entry to her with the snow pictures included.  She seems to think that romping in it is great fun but this is more work for the mommy!!! Bath day tomorrow!!!

Can you believe it?  It is snowing in Collegedale, Ooltewah, East Brainerd, Apison and all around Hamilton County Tennessee!  It has been several years since we got an accumulation and I frankly miss my snow in the winter time.  I do not want snow every day from November on, but, a few well placed occurences would be great.  It is not unusual to have snow in the Smokey Mountains or on the Cumberland Plateau, but, it is unusual to have it here in Hamilton County.  I am thrilled.  Here is one of my girls on patrol tonight in the snow.  She looks like a polr bear.
