Plans are now in the works to build on the recently abandoned golf course in the established Summerville, SC neighborhood, Kings Grant.  The subdivision was established in 1970 and one of the big draws to the neighborhood was the golf course, the River Club on the Ashley.  But in 2005 the golf course declared bankruptcy and was forced to close its doors much to the dismay of its residents.  The new developer, Kings Grant Golf Acquisitions, recently agreed to assume the debt as part of the redevelopment deal.  Redevelopment plans, which were recently approved by Kings Grant's HOA, include building 80 homes on 178 acres with 62 acres allocated for a common park area for the homeowners of Kings Grant.   Kings Grant Golf Acquisitions has already refurbished the swimming pool and tennis ...

One of the centerpieces of Summerville is the downtown area.  Filled with small charming stores and restaurants, it is a favorite place the locals frequent.   The town square is among the best places to sit and watch life go by and enjoy a coffee with friends.  The town square of Summerville is seasonally "dressed up" by the town.  At Christmas time, the trees are filled with lights and in the fall, "Scarecrows on the Square" is sponsored by the Junior Service League.

Homes have been built, and people have come to Summerville, in great numbers! With the rise in population, more children have needed to be admitted to the school system and the Dorchester District II School system has been working overtime to accommodate the additional students.  The largest addition to Dorchester II is the new high school, Ashley Ridge High.  Due to open its doors to ninth and tenth graders next year (August 2008), it will become the third high school for Dorchester District Two, following Summerville High and Fort Dorchester.  I have been looking into this lately and have found some interesting information and details... Last week I ventured out to see the Homes for Sale in The Ponds; one of Summerville's up and coming new developments.  Located off the beaten path, at the intersection of Dorchester Road and Hwy 17A, The Ponds is quite a bit further out than I had anticipated, however once you arrive it is magnificent.  If you have not looked at this community with its magnificent oaks, beautiful ponds and over 1100 acres of preserved nature, you need to investigate.  Click Here to read more...

Since last May, talk has been occurring and several town councilmen were elected primarily on their desire to manage the incredible growth Summerville has seen.  In the Thursday, 9/13/07 edition of the Summerville Journal Scene the latest town council meeting was reviewed..."Town Council gave initial approval to the "suspension of activity for new development..."Brown said the motion was needed to facilitate responsible growth. The move gives council time to craft an appropriate Adequate Public Facilities Ordinance, he added. The ordinance, as read by Brown, says no approval of development more than 25 acres shall occur, but the law does have certain exemptions:All homes covered under a development agreement, currently only the 1,200-unit Limehouse and the 209-unit I'on/Woodlands have o...
