The Legend of the Gray Man has haunted the residents and visitors of Pawleys Island for decades. The Gray Man is most notably characterized as a grayish ghost like figure that appears before hurricanes and storms to warn beach goers of impending danger. Legend has it that the Grey Man has made an appearance prior to every hurricane for the last 100 years. Little is known of the origins of the Gray Man but there are several theories of his identity that has made themselves legend. The most widely known theory is one of a young couple during colonial times that became separated. The woman lived with her family on the island. When the young man returned to see his heart’s desire he became so excited that he tried to cross the marsh instead of using one of the causeways. This turned to be a...

Its October already here which means its time for Halloween and ghost stories! Pawleys Island is home to several of the most famous ghost stories in South Carolina. There are several accounts to the story of Alice Flagg that have be able to captivate the residents of Pawleys and surrounding areas, but the basic premise is that of a love stricken young woman kept from seeing her true love. Alice Flagg lived with her brother and mother at the seashore home of the owners of Wachesaw Plantation in 1849. Today this home can be found in Murrells Inlet and is known as “The Hermitage”. The Atlantic Blue Crab is a native to the waters of Pawleys Island. They can be found in the creeks and inlets of Pawleys and Georgetown. Many of the locals and visitors to Pawleys enjoy spending their relaxing time “crabbing”. Crabbing is the act of catching crabs. There are many different methods to crabbing however three are among the most popular in Pawleys Island. The most tedious of the three techniques involves tying a piece of bait to a string or line and luring the crab close enough to the waters edge to scoop them with a net. Great patience and determination is required for this technique but the rewards are worth it! The second method of crabbing evolves using a drop net with bait secured inside. When a crab is believed to be in the net, the net is pulled up and the crab is t...

The Loggerhead Sea Turtle is South Carolina’s state reptile. Loggerheads feed on mollusks, crustaceans, fish, and other marine animals, which they crush with their large and powerful jaw. As with other sea turtles, females return to lay their eggs on or near the same beach where they hatched. Many Loggerhead turtles can be seen laying eggs or hatching on Pawleys Island. Due to conservation efforts beachfront home owners on Pawleys Island are urged to turn their lights off at night, during mating and hatching season as not to disorient the endangered sea turtles. Unlike other sea turtles, courtship and mating usually do not take place near the nesting beach, but rather along the migration routes between feeding and breeding grounds. Many lucky visitors and residents of Pawleys Island ar...

One of the best things you can do for your seller is introduce yourself, as the seller's agent, to the neighbors!  It is a great way to get to know the community and the neighborhood you are selling, and also you never know where that introduction will lead. I have been fortunate to have great neighbors of my seller's.  They have let me know if they notice something peculiar, have been kind enough to water the plants that wilt daily and also have kept my client informed of what is going on.  Today I had an open house and the neighbor had delivered a beautiful planter for me to use on the deck and offered more if I needed them.  How kind is that?  I was quick to give her a hug and let her know how much we appreciated everything she does.  I actually look forward to my open houses when I...
