I can't believe what I'm about to say, "I have become a cold weather wimp".  When we lived in Maryland I thought 50 degrees was Spring and no winter coat weather. After living full-time in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for over five years if the temperature is below 60 degrees I'm putting on the heavy coat.  I have to say that this winter and last were below normal temperatures and I am ready for this weekend when we may hit 70 degrees.  I want to see more winters where my heavy coat never comes out of the closet.

Yesterday the weather report said we were expected to get 3 - 5" of snow.  They cancelled the Myrtle Beach Marathon after many people had traveled far to participate.  In some ways I understand because the system we were expected to get had not occurred during the past ten years. In the northern section of North Myrtle Beach it didn't begin to snow until late last night.  This morning, Saturday, some grass areas seemed to have an inch and a few feet away there was only a dusting.  Pavement everywhere was only wet.  Myrtle Beach is about fifteen miles south and they may have received a bit more snow but I bet someone is sorry they cancelled the Marathon.      a few feet away  Snowflakes at Night                A Dusting of Snow                                      Tidewater Golf Course 2...

There was a nice article in the Sun News about the Myrtle Beach real estate market. It seems things are starting to look up for the Grand Strand. And about time too! After a slow year for sales, the real estate market in Myrtle Beach is finally beginning to head in the other direction, according to statistics compiled from the Myrtle Beach MLS. Real estate agents found themselves gaining business and busier than ever in December, said Marvin Heyd of Prudential Burroughs and Chapin Realty.  Of course, with the increase in workload, the wheels are starting to roll again. Agents are finding plenty of reasons to be optimistic about the Myrtle Beach real estate market. Sales have been increasing since the beginning of September for a fourth quarter overall gain. November 2009 showed dramati...

The May 2010 Myrtle Beach Bike Rally event in North Myrtle Beach would not include the kinds of events that the Harley-Davidson spring rally often features. The North Myrtle Beach May Bike Rally would not include the burnout pits, no Jell-O wrestling and no bikini bike washes. The permit would allow Harley-Davidson to bring in "official vendors" of Harley goods. The hope is to bring 10,000 tourists to the Main Street area of North Myrtle Beach for the five-day event. The event would be from May 18th through the 22nd. Even though the Bike Rally would only be a few Months away City Council is not expected to discuss the option until Feb leaving little time for Harley Bike Organizers to get the word out.

Now you can stream live video from your iPhone or Blackberry.  That may be an invaluable tool if you are a Realtor and your clients are located far away.   I just did my very first “Live Walk-Through” today.  My clients were very happy to be able to see everything as I walked through their property right before closing.   Together we explored every nook and cranny.  It was as if they were there, only they were many miles away.  The live video certainly put their minds at ease about closing by mail. Later on I streamed live video to a client from New York who wanted to take advantage of a fabulous deal, but couldn’t make it to Myrtle Beach until the end of the month.  He got a chance to see the property in detail by live video and is now comfortable making an offer on it. There are t...

Whenever I catch myself whine, I immediately intervene with some powerful counterattacks.   Here are some of the morsels I use almost daily to maximize my Life: No:    “I’m too old.” Yes:  “This is the youngest I’ll ever be.” Q:      How do you eat a whale? A:      One bite at a time! “Divide and Conquer!”  Break down your huge tasks into small, palatable portions and just delve into them, “one bite at a time”… “I delay gratification.  I do the important and difficult first, and reward myself for it later.” These are just some of my "Attitude Supplements" I take daily.  Can you share some of yours?   Today I dusted off my Rollerblades and off I went, skating through the neighborhood.   I can’t remember the last time I skated; I think it was last year, or maybe the year before that.  I spent my childhood on skates.  My kids learnt to roller skate when they were two years old.  Skating has been a constant throughout my life until…    What happened?  Work and responsibility took over my life and somehow I found less and less time for myself.  When my grandmother passed away this spring, I started taking inventory of my life.  I came to the realization that I worked more than I lived.  Worst of all, I don’t even know when the change happened; it just did.    I’ve never backed down from a challenge and the past few years have been challenging, to say the least.  I found myself working...

My, what a difference four years make…  Our oceanfront condo prices have been sliced and diced.  Take Baywatch Resort for example.   In 2005 a one bedroom oceanfront condo was selling for $330,000.  This year, my Buyer client garnered the same unit for only $110,500.   Sure, it was a bank foreclosure and my Buyer paid for it in cash, but nothing other than the timing was different.  Same condo, different year.  Discount: about 66%!!! This is not an isolated case.  We’ve had a slaughter fest on Myrtle Beach Real Estate this year.   To illustrate my point, I am submitting the evidence: a side by side comparison of 2009 and 2005 prices and activity at Baywatch Resort: Baywatch Resort – 2009 Sales Activity vs. 2005 Sales Activity:                    2009:                                   ...

Do you know what car your dentist drives? Do you know what car your attorney drives? Do you know what car your Realtor drives? Which one of these choices do you think most people know the answer to?  Exactly!  Real Estate Agents are the only ones whose vehicles are ‘out in the open’, sort of speak.  Realtors, what is your vehicle saying about you?  Is your car a mess because you work all the time, or is it always freshly detailed, showing that you are organized and careful?  Is your car on its last leg, because finances are not quite what they should be, or is it an expensive vehicle denoting that your Real Estate business is thriving?  Do you drive a ‘green’ vehicle, showing concern for the environment, or do you loaf around in a gas guzzler?  Whether you want to accept it or not, you...

My children have always been the most cherished part of my life, my defining moments, my love, my joy, my reasons for it all.   My son is leaving for war tomorrow.  As a little kid he used to move his plastic soldiers across huge maps of the World I had bought for him.  When he was a teenager he went to the Citadel Summer camp every summer and at 16 he became a counselor there.  He later attended The Citadel, where he was a Summerall Guard and had several significant leadership positions.  After graduating magna cum laude from the Citadel he enlisted in the Marines.  After six months at Quantico he was commissioned as an officer.  As he reminded me a few weeks ago, he is first a Marine, then an officer.    If I had it my way, war would be fought with paint guns.  I am probably the leas...

North Myrtle Beach Oceanfront Condos have seen a lot of activity in the past 90 days.  Here are all the 3BR units sold in the North Myrtle Beach Area during August, September and October 2009.  Some of the best buys?  Why, the ones I sold of course!  My Buyers got a killer deal on a 3BR/3BA Oceanfront Bank Owned condo at Windy Hill Dunes for only $290,000.  In its heyday (2005) it sold for $689,900.  Another great buy: the 3BR/3Ba condo sold at Avista Resort.  It garnered over $33K in rental income and sold for $300,000.   I tell all my Oceanfront Buyers:  For the best deals, you should have bought two months ago.  Now it’s still a good time to buy.  Hurry up, then!   Here are all the 3BR. OCEANFRONT CONDOS – SOLD in North Myrtle Beach in August, September and October 2009:    B...
